Found Deceased Canada - Shannon Burgess, 25, Calgary, 26 Nov 2014 - #1 *Arrest*

During the press conference, Shannon's sister said that they had been looking in areas where they might expect to find her, so perhaps they searched between the house and 9Ave, where all the action happens. If police were asking if any saw her near Lolita's Lounge, perhaps there was some video sighting of her somewhere near the intersection, and the guess is that she was heading to Lolitas.

What bothers me is the phone. If she were going to meet someone, she would bring her phone. Everyone brings a phone if they're meeting someone simply because one might be delayed. Did she forget it? Sure, she would have noticed during the walk, but perhaps it was better to keep going anyway.

Did something happen to her on the way to the Inglewood Pub district? In the map, where would you look first? If she is found nearby, it says to me that something happened to her when they were both on foot ... if someone with a car harmed her, she won't be found nearby.

How many people go missing and their bodies are recovered much later? It happens too often.

Aling the river, there are so many secluded areas. Also as I mentioned above - along the train tracks. If I was searching for a missing person, those would be my first stops.

My very first thoughts were #3, but maybe it's because there's so little info out there other than her husband was the last to see her so late after midnight.

Could also be an accident of sorts, a series of strange and unfortunate events that does happen to people and are sometimes hard to believe. I'm curious if alcohol was a factor that night with either her or her husband, I'd like to know if she or they were drinking.

I've wondered that too ... did she arrive back in Calgary on Wednesday, November 26 - after the Edmonton audition, sit back with a beer or ??, and decide to go for one more? If so, had she done that before? How long had she lived there? Did her husband live there as well?

When did the husband realize that she'd left her phone behind, and why did it take until Monday before the alert was sounded? He could claim that she'd taken off before, but the question is whether she'd ever left her phone behind for 5-6 days without a word from her? If he knew she left her phone behind, why did it take the sister to report it to police 5-6 days later? Why didn't he reply to their messages until after work? That's a very strange thing for an "estranged" husband who is still living with his wife.

Absolutely not. It's a fact that the Calgary police discourage families from the practice of "rewards" (see: Liknes/Obrien case) because police have to follow up every lead, and they don't want the leads muddied with speculations and reward seekers. They want time to do their jobs first.

Given the silence, I believe there is a foul play investigation ongoing. This is the way cps operates. Don't be surprised if out of the blue there are arrests.

Not to sound too cliché, but does anyone know if she was emotionally fragile, had any mental health issues or depression or anything? Sometimes people can have breaks from reality and might not even know they're missing if they've detached.

I know for missing Emma Fillipoff, there are theories she might have suffered a psychotic break and not know she's lost so to speak. Just brainstorming...

I wonder what information led them to think she could be in BC or ON? How would she get there? If anyone picked her up and she didnt have any backpack or something to carry a change of clothes in wouldnt that raise a red flag to the driver and come up in conversation?? Or why she didnt have any money to buy something to eat along the way on their stops?? Sorry, I'm not feeling like thats a possibility. JMO

Police have to follow up on all leads, so it's quite likely that there was a tip from Vancouver, and another from Toronto, about a sighting. I doubt that there is evidence, tips, or leads in Calgary that she decided to go to Vancouver or Toronto.

This is the path during the day. If Shannon walked towards Inglewood, she walked under this bridge. If she is nowhere to be found in the area, then she left in a car.

she couldn't make her friends wrap-up show on the 26th (redcarpet troupe) but another friend was doing stand-up at Yuk Yuks Elbow River Casino almost as close pending which way you go from her place,, Spiller to Erlton station, hop the train one stop to Stampede and you're on the Casino doorstep. Or if you walk ,McLeod Trail it would be 8 short blocks from the spiller round about way or a good half hour walk. both the lrt and the casino have cctv.

as a note, speculating about a homicide when no such thing has been announced and on a forum likely being read by her familyis in bad form imo.

I don't think the police, or the family, will stop looking. It may not be in the news, but an unsolved suspicious disappearance will be investigated. Wasn't a woman found last weekend in the home of her spouse, where her children still lived? Wasn't she missing for two years ... there she was, never left home! It obviously took police two years before they could search the house ... it wasn't in the news, but the investigation was ongoing for two years and now there is an body and an arrest. Most people probably didn't even know that she was missing.

When I lived in Inglewood I would avoid 12th and take longer routes with houses. Even though the train tracks are inaccessible now and not worth trying to shortcut through, the 12th stretch was notorious for - how shall we say -, mmm, truckers looking for cheap hookers. If I were her I would of added a few blocks and just stuck to 8th street till 9th avenue. As for going to the Elbow River Casino, I doubt she would have taken the short cut through the Stampede Grounds, but even the stretch from spiller becoming 25th avenue to McLeod is a dark'ish walk.

My guess as to what they are *really* saying is - While they have no crime scene, no witnesses stating she was scared for her life, no reason to doubt potential suspects, no signs of a struggle or abduction... they are still proceeding as if any scenario is possible until such time one proves probable. IOW, they have no friggin clue what happened to her either way.

Do you think they know what didn't happen to her? Such as random attack?

I see that the police cautiously proceeded from the beginning, doing their jobs and ruling out some possibilities prior to making a press statement with Shannon's sister as the family spokesperson. When they held a press conference, it seemed like police were asking the public if they saw anything in the area that night. It's clear that she was last seen at 12:30AM at home, after driving home from an audition in Edmonton. We know that her "estranged husband" with whom she may live, did not report that she was missing even though her cell phone was at home. He did not contact anyone about that fact. Instead, he went about business as usual, and did not even bother to answer concerned calls from Shannon's family on Monday until after he had left work. She had been missing since late Wednesday night ... five nights later she was reported missing.

When her phone rang for all those missed appointments, what did he do? Did he push her phone under a sofa pillow, did he scrutinize who was calling ... what did he do Thursday and Friday, and what did he do on the weekend?

Yes and I believe LE said they were looking into her medical records. It did come across as an uncomfortable pause during the presser IMO.

It just seems odd that she would go anywhere, especially accross the country, without her phone, without telling family that she had made plans with, and for this long without ANY word given then press coverage. Not to mention without using ANY money.

Something abouy this "tip" seems fishy and a bit too convenient, IMHO.

Maybe her phone and phone bill weren't worth the hassle. Maybe she has more than one phone? One for business, one for personal?

East Village is ok, there are nutters and homeless people but 9th ave is the throughway from DT up thru Forest Lawn 17th ave SE/TransCanada. It's as if the bridge at the Elbow draws a line on what type of nutter goes further east. It's quite built up now and it's very common to see beat cops on foot, until you cross the bridge at the Deanne House (<? I think, the haunted one.)

a landline with voice mail or an answering machine. it's funny how we love our phones but are realizing how much they (the hardware) keep tabs on us. Have you ever tried erasing your history text's from your phone? Some delete features are disabled to owners. I had a Samsung that one day upon my discovery had a cache of emails in text form saved from my Hotmail acct. That phone now is an odd bit of contemporary smashed art in my junk drawer.
