Wasn't that from an old episode of the Brady Bunch when Marsha got the football in the nose?
Actually, it was theater director Constantin Stanislavski (1863-1938) of the Moscow Art Theatre. It can also be credited to Joseph Jefferson from the play Our American Cousin.

Marsha merely said, "Oh, my nose." - True fact.

Well... it was more relevant and recent when Mike Brady said it.

It's almost irrelevant in relation to her disappearance. The original point was, that a 100 hour film shoot... please read that again and put it in proper perspective... a 100 hour high school level film shoot isn't something that means she was well on her way, happy and successful. I simply pointed out it's not what everyone thinks it is...

As far as I know, we don't even know they were talking about her.

I doubt Dwayne Dibbly up and coming "film maker" in Edmonton has much pull in the industry. "Hey man... she bailed on my 100 hour film".

I suspect most serious industry insiders would applaud such a decision.

Maybe someone she was involved with in that film was a reason for bailing.

The only problem with the "ran off" argument, is that it doesn't make sense.
When one goes to another city, they need money and access internet and banking along with other traceable steps. If they have met someone, say the suggested sugar daddy, at least ONE friend or family member would know of said person's existence. Missing important commitments and leaving behind personal belongings and a cell? That would take a rather shallow, self-absorbed person and nothing I have read on her social media or family's pages suggest she is either.

I agree News, I'm not a believer she did this at all personally. I just try to not nix other's poster's theories, so a lot of my responses are pretty diplomatic with a 'possibly' or 'could be' about their ideas. I sound so wishy washy then I guess lol!

As my hazy Brady memories re-emerge from the dark places I suppress my traumas, I do believe it was the Romeo and Juliette episode, when Marsha didn't get the part she wanted.

Why is it always, "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!"

$1500 and some software downloads does not an International Film Festival make.

This is getting off topic, but ask anyone involved in the biz. Amateur.

Google "Amateur Film Contest" and see the hundresds of other "international" contests offering bigger prizes.

Did she actually audition? Was it a favour for a friend? Was it confirmed that was her "missing" in the ad for a replacement actress?

The entire "film" had to be written and filmed in 4 days... it's not serious film work by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm confused. Is this some sort of criticism of the missing woman's choice of work?

It's a realistic perspective on an amateur film making contest. The prize money is $1500... how much do you think the "actors" are getting paid... lol.

My original point was... before this got blown up into the role of a lifetime in the "Critically Acclaimed 100 Hour International Film Festival"... that it's just as likely she was depressed about sinking to such a lowly role, as she was excited about it... if, in fact, it was actually her mentioned.

What is Film Racing?

"The competition was created by Charlie Weisman and Craig Flamm, two New York filmmakers who wanted to create the ultimate filmmaking challenge and answer a question. Can a movie be made in a 24 hours? ...Film Racing is dedicated to inspiring and challenging creative minds. We strive to provide exciting and rewarding competitions for the filmmakers and to provide them with the prizes and exposure necessary to take the next big step in the industry. ... Not only are the films showcased on the big screen for packed theaters across the country, but the top films have received over a million views online and received further recognition at major film festivals. "Blowing Bubbles", the Best Film of the 2009 Film Racing Tour, screened to a sold out audience at the 15th Annual Gen Art Film Festival in New York City. "

Hard to tell about the 100 Hour Film Race stuff, but it must be a little popular, their FB page has 29,000 likes.

One could fart on YouTube and get twice that many views and subscribers. Perspective... "film" does not automatically mean "professional" or "glamourous" or "big production".

The first prize is $4200 in cash and film industry equipment. If the film was well made and made it into the finals, Shannon would make her debut in New York. Perhaps that seems like nothing and a waste of time to some, but if everything fell into place, it was her ticket to the next chapter in her life as an actor.

There's absolutely nothing to suggest that Shannon was depressed. No one that knows her has said anything other than she was upbeat, happy, funny, had lots of friends ... it's all positive. There is not a single statement to support "depressed". Where does such an idea come from?

Haha! Oh OOTD, you're not an artsy type are you? ;)

Well, some of the prizes are some pretty cool software that some people would love to use, but don't have the extra cash to spend on it. Shannon mentioned in her interview upthread about her microphone 'collection', video stuff and photography. Who knows, she might've been interested in the production side of film or writing also, not just acting. The film race might also be, dare I say - fun!

Some people are inspired by money, and if it's not enough money, they can't be bothered. Passionate people are happy to leave people like that in the dust.

Shannon was obviously inspired by her love of acting, and passion for theatre because the three hour drive to Edmonton didn't slow her down at all. The prize money didn't slow her down. The three hour drive home didn't slow her down. And being cast for the part didn't slow her down.

What slowed her down is the fact that she is missing ... very likely not by choice. There is absolutely no reason to criticize her career choices. What we know, based on the information about the audition, is that she had every reason to be happy and excited about returning to Edmonton on Dec 4 to participate in a film shoot that could have changed her life. Instead, it seems her life was changed for her between the audition, and the part.

I have extensive experience in live theatre and film.

Here's a couple bio links of sorts for her voice over work. Note her credentials from a bio listed below. She probably had interest in many facets of the industry and interested in tools to use in the trade.

Studio
Microphone
Bluebird Cardioid Condenser Mic

Computer & Software
Pro Tools 10

Special Equipment
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface

I was actually criticizing your interpretation of her career choices. I can't speak to her motivation... neither can you. You chose bright side, I chose life experience... both valid positions... and both must be considered before forming an absolute position.

The point about the money was... if it were a serious competition, connected to anything serious, in any way... the prize money would be much, much more. Some software downloads as prizes are nothing... and are easy to get from "sponsors" in return for what is free advertising.
