I did read something about that too but I'm questioning the accuracy as far as it being "that" car. Reports did say he had purchased a couple of cars.
Right - we don't know that. Good point.

I feel as tho he would have kept everything connected with what he was planning a very guarded secret.

It is. This poor woman was worried about possibly dying for want of PPE’s and instead she’s killed by a madman.

Heartbreaking. It makes me so mad when someone thinks they can just go and take others lives. Infuriating.
Thoughts with everyone affected by this tragedy.

And now the "stories" about killer are coming out. I'm sure there are more to come from folks who dealt with this evil killer.

It just keeps getting more horrifying, as @Vern warned us it would. We haven't heard from @Vern since very late the night before last; they are in my heart and I am hoping their absence doesn't mean they got the terrible news they thought they might. Either way, sending you love and support, @Vern!

I'm worried about @Vern as well.

Me too. I believe poster said looking for folks with last name starting with McB . I hope as further names come out poster's Family was spared.
I have no Family on the East coast but my Dad's name was Vern and my maiden name also starts with McB. It just struck me when I saw the post on the coincidence.

Looking at the list of victims, crunching numbers to see if we can learn anything:

6 females (solo victims)
6 married couples (including one with 17yo daughter)
3 males (solo victims)
__
22 total number of victims (as of now)

3 houses set on fire belonged to married couples

The 17yo girl and her step dad liked to fix cars.

One solo man worked with fire brigade at the airport, was on the way to help with a fire?

One solo man was out on an errand

One solo man on the way to help with a fire.

One married couple lived next door to the killer (house burned).

Known professions of victims:
Teacher
RCMP officer
2 nurses
2 corrections officers (married couple)
Fire-brigade member at airport
Denturist
3 Retired (new to area)
1 pulp mill worker (he was on an errand)
Laundry charity (next door neighbor)

To me, it looks like targeted people except the solo men (1 on an errand, 2 responding to fires). I think they were random opportunities).

One solo woman was new to the area and not killed with husband - I'm thinking she was out for a walk but not sure about that. I'm thinking she was random opportunity.

The rest, look targeted - teacher, healthcare, law enforcement, car enthusiasts, denturists. They all are in "helper" professions like the killer, with the car enthusiasts sharing hobby with him. And the next door neighbors have a connection by proximity.

Info from Portraits of lives lost: Nurses, teacher, Mountie, couples, retirees among mass shooting victims | Cape Breton Post plus the Go.fund.me links in the articles.

Interview with Kristen Beaton's husband...the poor man. He had been warning her on the phone not to stop for anyone. :( And as someone mentioned above, she was pregnant with another child. They hadn't told family yet.

'She was an amazing mother': Husband of victim
This is so unsettling as this husband was able to warn his wife, yet, RCMP failed to initially release that the monster was travelling in a vehicle that was made to look like a RCMP cruiser. Had he had THAT information, there’s a possibility his beautiful wife and unborn child would still be alive. There is also the issue of not issuing a provincial emergency alert during this very ACTIVE shooter emergency. Heck, I got woken up a number of weeks ago very late at night with an emergency alert about Covid 19, twice, no less, once in English and then in French! It’s all we’d been hearing for days on the news but they needed to send out an emergency alert generally reserved for Amber Alerts? Makes no sense. Hopefully, other provinces will learn something from this horrific tragedy.

Since he was into cop stuff, is it safe to assume he had a scanner and listened to what was communicated about this spree?

We may never truly know why some were chosen. Other than those who had a history with him. Perhaps somebody parked at his business when they were not there for an appt. (we know he doesn't like that) Maybe somebody had trouble with dentures fitting and he perceived it a slight on his "perfect" craft. Maybe somebody walked past his place too often. Stepped across his lawn once etc. etc. or they could be just random as well. Yet the fires do make me think they were chosen.

And from what we know so far, the fires were all at married couple's houses. Not sure what that means - perhaps those were the targeted victims and all others were random?

I am curious to piece it all together. The detective work on this will be finding those connections, in addition to evidence at the scene, etc. I find it interesting.

That’s my thinking as well, it seems like he had specific locations he was targeting and going to. Then it seems as if he was just shooting random individuals that he encountered on the roads. Jmo

April 19th-20 are dates of some significance for white supremacists and others inclined toward hatred.

Oklahoma City bombing 4/19, Columbine shooting 4/20 and others.

Maybe some connection? Maybe not...

So this attack ended on the 25th anniversary of the OKC bombing, and the 2018 Toronto van attacks happened on Timothy McVeigh's 50th birthday.

The December 6, 1989, Ecole Polytechnique Massacre in Montreal happened on the anniversary of the 1917 Halifax explosion (~2000 dead), which itself happened on the 10th anniversary of the worst ever US mine disaster. The shooter had a denture office in Dartmouth, near Halifax (about 2 miles from 1917 explosion).

April 18 = San Francisco earthquake (Herbert Mullin)
April 19= OKC bombing (and Waco siege ends in inferno)
April 20=Columbine, Hitler's birthday
April 21=Belvidere/Oak Lawn tornado two days before James Earl Ray escapes from Missouri Penitentiary
April 22, 1992=Adam Lanza born in Exeter, NH, same day as Guadalajara sewer explosions (252 dead)
April 23=Ray escapes in '67 and dies in '98, Timothy McVeigh born in '68, Toronto van attack in 2018.

On April 23, 1968 (one year anniversary of Ray's escape), RFK was campaigning in Indiana on what the media called the Wabash Cannonball campaign train (same route and perhaps borrowing of train set) from Logansport to Fort Wayne. On June 8, 1968, the day Ray was caught at Heathrow Airport, two spectators of RFK's southbound funeral train in Elizabeth, NJ, who could not clear themselves of the track in time, were killed by a northbound Penn Central train shortly before 2 pm (I think about 4 am, June 9, in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea). On June 9, 1942, in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, at about 8:30 am, LBJ left his seat on a B26 preparing for takeoff nicknamed (according to most sources) the Wabash Cannonball in order to urinate, and upon his return, he had to change planes because another observer, Colonel Francis Robert Stevens, had grabbed his seat. While under attack by Japanese Zeros in the same TOW 9 mission, the Wabash Cannonball crashed into the sea, killing all on board.

Good possibility. There’s also Broadcastify. You don’t even need to subscribe for up-to-date active communications. What I don’t know is if the RCMP use specially designated channels. I’d have to get into my account and check back. A couple of years ago, during a rash of thefts and chases in our county in Ontario, I followed some chases as I was right behind the excitement coming home from my son’s. What I learned is that the detectives working the case were on a different channel than the marked cruisers. One had to be reminded to switch back to the “other” channel :)

I also learned that when the perp exceeds 130km per hour on a county road with a posted speed of 80km, they wisely abandon the chase and alert other officers of the direction the vehicle is travelling in.

I can't figure out who was the ex and her new boyfriend, apparently the first ones killed? I've actually wondered from the beginning if the names of those two were being withheld? Has anyone else noticed there seem to be no survivors of the shootings or fires except the police officer? In other words, the killer was probably very close when he shot his victims or else he was a great shot.

Since there obviously wont be a Trial we will get info we ordinarily wouldn't on the Investigation. Always tight lipped here until Trials.
