Or, purchased it in the United States, then smuggled it back to Canada? I think private gun sales in the USA do not need to involve back ground checks where US ID would be asked for.

Yea possible but super risky IMO

The us banned them before canada prohibited them.

ak-47 were banned in the usa in 1994, if you had one that was manufactured before the ban date you could keep it. I seriously doubt that the people that own those weapons are not selling them since they can not purchase another one. I don't think that the people that own them legally can see them legally since they are banned to buy.

If you are a Canadian who wants to posess one, you are mostly out of luck these days. There are those lucky few who have been grandfathered in, but this fine firearm is prohibited. By its barrell length and action, the AK-47 would actually be a non-restricted gun in Canada (if it is modified to semi- auto), but the government has specifically made it prohibited. Generally, this is due to the public stigma and war images from around the world.

bbm That would be wrong.

A Federal Firearms License (FFL) is a license in the United States that enables an individual or a company to engage in a business pertaining to the manufacture or importation of firearms and ammunition, or the interstate and intrastate sale of firearms. Holding an FFL to engage in certain such activities has been a legal requirement within the United States since the enactment of the Gun Control Act of 1968.

If this guy truly is a "lone wolf" it will be very interesting to find out where he obtained the weapons. IMO the only way to get your hands on an AK-47 in Canada is through a connection with organized crime.
Unless he was able to purchase it online somehow??

There is a black market everywhere. Many terrorists in Europe get their weapons either in Brussels, or via the criminal networks. Loners (like AB) also buy a gun online, but this can be expensive.

On his FB page, that is down now, he indicated that he liked the game Crusaders, maybe he met someone through that community?

I don't believe for a minute that Bissonette was the only one involved in this. Something else is going on here.
The tragedy remains that 6 innocent people were taken viciously from this earth and my heart goes out to their families and friends.
I hope that the RCMP and CSIS are also involved in the investigation because I have very little faith in the Surete du Quebec and the SPVQ/SPVM. There needs to be some major overseeing of this investigation going on. I live in Quebec and have always said that if anything ever happened to me you guys on Websleuths would be on it before the cops here even had a clue.

from yesterday's Globe & Mail:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/quebec-city-mosque-shooting/article33822092/

Quebec’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, consisting of investigators from the RCMP, the Sûreté du Québec and the Montreal police service, took over the investigation around 10 p.m. Sunday, when the shooting was determined to be an act of terror.

INSET works closely with CSIS, so they've thrown Canada's crème de la crème at the case. Whether all that expertise is needed or not is yet to be seen.

My deepest condolences to the victim's families, friends, colleagues, neighbours and the community as a whole.

This is absurd. First they refuse to release their names and now all the attention is geared IN OVERDRIVE towards Bissonnette and NOTHING, NOTHING AT ALL about the other shooter.

Are we framing something, Canada?

Europe has some experience with Merkel and the EUSSR gagging the media, and we smell rats.

Am not caught up yet but so agree . Just thinking this as I was loading the page - there better be more stuff on the other one - or this is "something" going on here - way to tilted

One thing I find weird is that the killer apparently called the police after the fact and said he felt guilty about what he'd done. He agreed to meet them at a particular intersection.
Is he just after the notoriety?

From what I can tell, it hasn't been determined which one is considered the suspect and which one is now considered a witness. Or at least that information has not been released. I'm assuming that it's the "word on the street" of the people who were at the scene of the shooting, or in the courthouse today, that is generating the information that it is AB who is the actual shooter? That coupled with the fact that he had all of the weapons in his vehicle when he surrendered?

:waitasec:

and he turned himself in!

Most terrorist attacks on this planet are against Muslims. This is why when I hear the term "Islamic terror" I wonder does it mean the victims are Islamic or the perp?

I don't see how anybody can deny this attack was an attack against Muslims. It happened at a mosque for pete's sake!

mass shooting / hate crime ? Media politicians love the word terrorism - it makes them innocent if you know what I mean-- nothing they can do etc etc moo

and he turned himself in!

Let's say you're a young person with a fixation - like a hatred for Muslims. You put all your time and attention into this hatred and hatch a plan to kill some. You plan, prepare, plan, prepare. Finally, you do the deed.

Then what?

There's nothing left. You might as well turn yourself in. The road was bound to end up with surrender.

Considering that the police had arrested an individual named "Mohammed" in connection with the attack and that religous based Moslem on Moslem violence is common in many parts of the world, those thoughts were not exactly baseless.

in fairness tho - everything has the word terrorism in it these days.

If one just looks at the numbers we Americans are far more likely to be killed by an American mentally ill mass shooter than a real terrorist.

Thats not me that's the numbers

Batman was not a terrorist mental

Luka Mag was not a terrorist mental

Elliot Rogers was not a terrorist mental

Pulse was not a terrorist mental

Fort Lauderdale was not a terrorist mental

Columbine was not a terrorist mental

Sandy Hook was not a terrorist mental

Amry yard guy was not a terrorist mental

Planned parenthood was not a terrorist mental

Congresswoman one was not a terrorist mental

Virgina Tech was not a terrorist mental

Where and how the media keeps this dance going is mind boggling to me

San Bern was a terrorist and the guy with car

moo

Bissonnette. Not an immigrant. Not a Muslim. Probably a Christian, judging from his name. And, reportedly, a big admirer of Trump.
By then, though, the attack had already been labeled terrorism, which is a difficult description to walk back.

I don't usually post on these threads and typically stick to the MP threads, but I'm so confused here. We're the reports that he left and reloaded three times false? Did he actually do that and still get away to later call the cops on himself? What of the initial witness info of two guys with masks? The media on this where I live is pretty much non-existent and I don't really understand the Twitter. Even my far left and far right friends on Facebook aren't saying anything. It's weird to me. suspect dressed up as the Grim Reaper for Halloween, according to his Facebook page

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38805163

grim-reaper-1.jpg

[FONT=&quot]black-cloaked, scythe-wielding personification of death. We all know exactly *who he is and what he wants. He comes for every person, hourglass in hand, waiting for the last grain of sand to fall. When it does, he collects the soul with a well-practiced cut of his razor-sharp blade. It may not be a pleasant image, but it is clear and unmistakable.
