I live about 3/4 of an hour south of Orillia but don't have a car.

OK I wasn't sure about a connection but then I just read this article again. I know this was previously discussed (Summersolstice posted about this) and somewhat dismissed by some people on here but now....

Her voice breaking with emotion, Darlene described Varaschin as a “bubbly” woman who is passionate about the outdoors and has a real knack for pediatrics.

“She was fantastic with the children. She really got down to their level. I didn’t know any pediatric nurse that worked as well with children as she did,” said Darlene, who first met Varaschin in 2006, when they were working as nurses at Camp Couchiching, near Orillia.

“When she moved to Orangeville, she became part of the circle of friends,” Darlene added, explaining they haven’t seen much of Varaschin in the past year, because “everyone’s busy.”
“She had a wide variety of friends everywhere — her skiing friends, her nursing friends and her cycling friends.”

What if this guy worked at Camp Couchiching or had a connection with that place somehow? What if he connected with Sonia after she left there?

Are there any similar businesses in both locations, ie.truck deliverys, Brinks,pizza delivery ect.
Regarding the socks,I also wondered about that odd detail and if it had any particular significance.

No, not at all, in a completely different direction.

Something is just not lining up, here.

Did SV go to the CC camp or the headquarters in Orillia?

I can see why such a quick inference was drawn between Sonia's case and this recent attack, since the CC headquarters was very close to the Metro, and the circumstances are similar.

I haven't been following this much but came here to read up a bit after reading the Sun article about the recent attack. At first I thought maybe the connection could be that the attacker had similar boots to the ones LE were looking for in Sonia's case, but the Sun article states the suspect is wearing running shoes, not boots. BUT, could the connection be that they found shoe tracks in the area for shoes sold at Mark's Work Wearhouse? (the same place the boots in Sonia's case were sold)

ITA. I was reading back on the threads and that's when I remembered Couchiching from his/her posts and it was dropped almost right away. I really think it's relevant to Sonia now. I just wasn't getting the connection between this poor assault victim in Orillia and Sonia, even with the dates and the brazenness of the perp. It just didn't click and now it clicks for me. I hope this guy is caught.

That's a scary thought! Could even mean that "he" could have volunteered for this:

If not for the RW case, I would not consider the possibility,of the perp having a sock fetish or something and running off wearing the "trophy."
Maybe he left them behind at the scene of the crime,or used them as a gag or restraint.?

LOL dotr, originally I had the same impression specially because of the emphasis on the socks. Then I thought he could have been wearing shorts, but I think in the latest articles they now mention pants (probably jeans). *feeling too tired now to go look for a link, sorry about that*
The article is now also saying 'running shoes' while the first one said "shoes".

I am wondering if there is more video footage, and LE are 'teasing' the perp by letting him know details that seriously I cannot see in the video that has been released.

Wow, you guys have been busy! The notion of him wearing socks did hit me as well. Until last night, there was no need to be wearing socks at all. Unless, he was wearing work boots - then socks would be necessary.

Did he change from work boots to running shoes somewhere along the line?

And the idea of him being at/working at the camp really freaks me out.

Officers are searching for a man who brutally attacked a woman behind a Metro grocery store on Front Street on Aug. 27. Because the attack was so violent, police said the suspect will also be investigated by officers probing Varaschin’s murder.

Police have released surveillance video of the suspect. He’s described as:
•white
•stocky build
•5'9"
•He was wearing socks, shoes, a dark shirt, possibly jeans, and a light-coloured ball cap.

I totally agree with you N_S_U. I have the same feeling that there is more to it.
