Here is an article: Police were searching a swampy area across the road from where her remains were found. Perhaps that is where the "swamp" came into the picture?
http://www.thestar.com/news/crime/2010/09/07/body_near_orangeville_identified_as_missing_nurse.html

Police search an area of woods in Caledon and a nearby swamp for the clues in Sonia Varaschin’s unsolved murder.

Guess we were looking in the same places!
It seems that SV was found on a more secluded gravel road than some of the others, and that something ( a tip ?) later on, brought LE to search the swamp area, if I am interpreting that correctly?..

Although I always had the impression somehow that Sonia's body was in the swamp, which cast a certain light on the case imo.
Something about a body in a swamp makes a horror movie type statement, imo.

WHY move her body? WHY?

Does a blood bath at the murder scene, squealing tires, screams, a dumped body and a dumped car add up to anyone?

Completely disorganized and chaotic.

WHY

:thinking:It is beginning to feel as though, his original intent was not to kill her. It was not planned, and he had to think fairly quickly. First thing is to get rid of the body. Why not leave her there. I wonder if it is because he strongly felt that he would automatically be under suspicion for killing her. I strongly feel that he knew Sonia, was very familiar with her townhouse, her vehicle, etc. and he needed time. So, he scattered the crime scene by removing her from her home, dumping her outside of Orangeville, tossing out her comforter at another place, and abandoning her car. And it worked.

The perp(s) brought Sonia's car back to O'ville, so they probably live in the vicinity of Ghawk, and maybe fits with prancing around in a gazebo in the wee hours.

Was there screaming? I don't remember.

OK, let's be sure I have this correct - the perp(s) killed SV in her home, drove her body to the wooded area that's in my link above and then drove her own car back to GHawk? All of this took place (all of this driving around) happened in Sonia's own car?

Secondly, I have no idea how you guys highlight Sonia's name. Help required here, please.:blushing:

And thirdly, I read way back when (sorry, no link) that killers tend to leave the body where the killing took place when the killer is known to the victim (ie Audrey) but killers tend to move the body when the victim is a stranger to the killers.

ETA: Oh, it looks like the computer/site highlights the name Sonia by itself. Very cool.

There was no "reason" to move Sonia.

How about this, and this is out there, I know.

Could the perp have tried to save her?

Could it possibly have been a crime of passion, then when it got out of control, the perp took her (to his house?) To try and fix her wounds?

IMO, he didn't try to save her. The injuries should have been too much/heavy.

OPP Detective Inspector Mark Pritchard warned area residents to watch for “unexplained bedding” especially in rural or wooded areas. The bedding is “expected to be blood soaked

Mr. Pritchard said “the culprit left the scene covered in blood,” and would have had traces on both clothing and footwear on Monday, when Ms. Varaschin was reported missing. Mr. Pritchard said the removal of bedding “suggests a disposal of biological evidence.”

I believe she was raped and his semen would have been found on her body. She would have been discovered earlier if she was left at her house as would the perp's sperm.

Her manner of death and other details of her death have never been revealed, until a perp or perps are arrested, I suppose. This case pisses me off so much. FBI, OPP profiler, O'ville police, no one has made any progress in this case. There are three crime scenes. This happened in CLOSE PROXIMITY to several homes, one home attached to hers and the other only a few feet separated from hers. The perp(s) left via her frigging FRONT DOOR. It was a hot August Sunday night/early morning. Some asleep to get ready for work the next morning, others unemployed or working afternoon or evening shifts and may have not been sleeping. One person claims to have heard nothing, her window wide open. Sonia's bedroom faces the front of the house, and is above the garage IIRC. The facing townhomes' residents could have heard screams more so than if she was killed in a room that faced the rear of her home (which had a clearing and no homes at all.)

This murder was disorganized and chaotic. Why hasn't it been solved yet?????

Her ex-boyfriend was cleared IIRC. Either alibi or via DNA or both. I will try to find a link.

Hhhmmmm, the boyfriend IR ......

Hopefully, there is no mistake in clearing him!!
What we heard, he was living in Canada for 2,5 years, he was her "on-and-off" boyfried, he was her boyfriend for the last year, he was named in the obituary, he "disappeared" back to U.K. soon after the murder.
I don't trust the peace- saying in GER. :gaah:

My speculation: IMO a young rapist or rapists walked into her home via an unlocked screen door and raped her. This opens it up to a visitor or resident of Sonia's townhouse unit, since the backyards are all fenced via a common fence. The person was drunk or high or both when this crime occurred. There was a weapon involved, most likely a knife and Sonia was stabbed to death. The perp found her car keys and brazenly opened the trunk of her car first (or one of them did) and then helped drag or carry Sonia down her stairs to the front door and directly deposited her body into the trunk of her car. Leaving her body there would have been too heavy for the perp(s) since they live nearby. The perp is familiar with Greenhawk Equestrian and may be aware of their hours of operation and that there may not be any camera back there. The store is actually straight north of the main street leading to the townhomes and would make an easy walk back and allow for some cleanup and clothing dumping before returning to whichever townhome they came from. The perp(s) left the area shortly afterwards. JMO MOO

Communicating via dating sites. If the killer had communicated with her at any lengths, he would have removed her computer. Not only would it look like a b&e, but he would also have taken the evidence of setting up a meet time, or generally flirting with her.

The computer was left in her home. I don't think there was any communication from him period. If there was any communication from a guy it would of been someone who was in her life for sometime.

The dna took time to return from the lab. It was one year after her murder that swabs were taken. I do not think that those close to her were swabbed until later, when dna results arrived. Interviews only were done initially.

Unfortunately we don't know whether those close to her stayed in Canada or not.

Do you mean he returned to Canada from the UK for her funeral?

It is very expensive (air fare) And if it was on again off again, as suggested, would it not of been easier to send condolences and flowers?

Good analysis matou. I also think that the perp was young and local and knew where to go in town to avoid surveillance cameras when disposing of the car at Greenhawk. And that they walked home from there and were also on foot at Sonia's townhouse complex. The two young men seen on camera at that gazebo may not be the actual perps in this case but it proves that young people, on foot, do hang out in that park and that alley at odd times of the night/morning so they would be familiar with it.

I also believe that the perp was not that familiar with Beechgrove Sideroad, especially at the end of it where Sonia's body was found. I think they turned onto that road to get off the main road out of town where there would be other traffic. They kept driving along the sideroad looking for a good place to dump the body until they got to the other end without finding a good spot to pull off somewhere secluded. At that point they panicked that they were back at another "main road" so they may have done a U Turn and headed west back towards Orangeville and decided just to pull over at a dark place and drag the body as far off the road as possible quickly, just in case another car were to come along and witness Sonia's car pulled over. I think it was very dark which is why they didnt notice the swamp on the other side of the road which would have been a "better place" to dump a body and get rid of DNA evidence quickly. I think they were unfamiliar with the area and didn't know that they were actually dumping the body on private property in an area with residents who walked that road because it was dark and the growth on the side of the road was likely pretty tall.

Why move the body? Once again, I believe a young perp who watches crime shows or reads about crime scenes on the Internet would have an idea that they must remove their DNA from the scene. Removing the victim and the bedding would accomplish removing the obvious source of their own DNA. I don't think a transient or serial criminal who has not been caught and therefore LE do not have their DNA on file, would have cared and gone to that kind of risk or trouble. But someone known to the victim or who has ties to the area might. Now after the body was found, it wouldn't surprise me if this person left the area, at least for a while, if that's where they lived. At that point they would know that their DNA would be tied to the murder and that LE may do a sweep of people local or known to the victim. I don't think this person is going to be caught committing another crime that requires their DNA to be put on file. I only hope that someone close to them who may suspect their involvement, grows a conscience and calls LE with what they know.

Perhaps this article gives a 'reason' why the body was moved:

https://www.ncjrs.gov/App/publications/abstract.aspx?ID=99117

From your interesting link, thanks. Could it be the perp/s are organized ?
bbm.

"Characteristics of the organized offender include a high birth order, inconsistent parental discipline, average or above average intelligence, and poor work performance. The organized offender is socially adept and usually living with a partner. He may report an angry state of mind prior to the murder and admit to being calm and relaxed after the crime. The crime scene of the organized murderer shows a semblance of order before, during, and after the offense. The victim frequently is a stranger and may be targeted because he or she is in a particular location or has certain characteristics. Obsessive, compulsive traits surface in the organized murderer's behavior and crime scene patterns. In contrast, the disorganized offender is likely to be of below average intelligence, low birth order, and subjected to harsh parental discipline. He is in a confused and distressed state of mind at the time of the murder, is socially inadequate, and sexually incompetent. The crime scene shows that the crime was committed suddenly with no set plan of action for deterring detection. Facial destruction and sexually sadistic acts performed after the murder are typical. Disorganized offenders usually leave the victim in the same position in which he or she was killed and make no attempt to conceal the body. "

Adding thought..

Since we do not know for sure , iirc. that S.V. was killed at home, maybe she was murdered at the spot where her body was located?
If so, maybe perp/s actually are disorganized offenders?
