And remember (was it little Holly's case?) the one guy who refused got caught by dropping a paper coffee cup into the litter box. LE had been watching this guy's actions, saw the coffee cup and retrieved it for DNA. Bingo! The killer was caught!

The person who murdered Sonia can only hide for so long. The police are very smart!

It's not that unusual for people to balk at having their DNA taken in a criminal investigation. Some people are just paranoid and don't trust the science.

Personally I think they're going in the wrong direction if they are only looking for men that Sonia may have dated. Based on what we know about the murder, I think they should be testing every young man that lived in a two mile radius of the townhouse. Or who may have visited frequently other young men who lived there. Here are my reasons for thinking that this was a young perpetrator.

-they have the DNA of the perp and there is nothing on file that matches. The person is not a known criminal who graduated to murder. This appeared to be a brutal crime and a sloppy one. Not something that an experienced criminal type would be responsible for. All criminals start somewhere...at a young age.

-it was a pretty brazen thing to move the body from the house. If there was that much blood in the house it was obvious that foul play had taken place so why move the body? Remove DNA evidence? An experienced criminal would not have left DNA evidence.

-the killer moved her in her own car. They did not appear to have their own car in the vicinity. They returned her car to within 2 miles of the crime scene. They did not drive past any surveillence cameras in the commission of the crime. They must have known the area well. They may have returned home on foot making them local.

-who is more likely to be wearing construction boots as a fashion statement and therefore would not look strange walking around in them when not at work? Young men.

-Sonia lived on a cul-de-sac with a park and a ravine near her home. Who is more likely to hang out in these areas at night? Young teen boys who grow up to be young men. And if you've ever lived in this type of atmosphere, you know how much those teens come to despise the neighbours that call them out for their rowdy and often times illegal behaviour. Retaliation is the name of the game. Usually in the form of property damage but who knows how deep that hatred can run in a kid that's "wired differently".

And this quote from her mother just gives me the chills for some reason...

In addition to those alleged disputes, Michele has revealed for the first time that her daughter, who lived alone, had several disputes with three or four young men, who had rented a unit a few doors away, because of their late-night rowdiness.

“She was a nurse who worked shifts, so she called the police on them several times,” Michele says, adding that the young men have since moved out of the complex.

Hi Kamille, I agree that a young guy did this to Sonia. I thought that the DNA swabs were being done on anyone who knew Sonia at all not just who she dated but maybe I'm wrong on that. I absolutely agree with the points that you gave. Also about the boots, alot of the area around Orangeville is farmland and I would see that boots as not a fashion thing but a job thing. The profile suggests the perp may be an alcohol and drug user and that the perp increased use after what he did to Sonia. I see this as an indicator of a young perp.

Yes, the crime does sound 'sloppy' but perhaps the perp wanted to do it in a sloppy manner in order to say/leave a message regarding his feelings towards to Sonia.:twocents:

I know what you mean. My thoughts are of the blood soaked and splattered Sonia's home, mainly the room where she was killed.

Officers said it was a daring, brutal attack during which the victim could have died.
“It was a violent assault,” one cop said. “The victim was grabbed and choked from behind and could have been killed.”

(STAFF) — Police have released video and a still photograph of the suspect believed to have sexually assaulted a woman behind the Metro grocery store overnight on Saturday in hopes the images lead to an arrest.

I'm confused, when did this attack occur? Was it last night or last Saturday? ETA Ok I see that it was last week as per the last link. It is similar to the date when Sonia was attacked and killed.

Just a quick note to say thanks for the updates. We will not rest until justice is found for all these victims.

ETA: I just was thinking about how the dates relate to Sonia. It will be one year ago today (5th September) that her remains were found. And the recent attack in Orillia must have happened very close to the date on which Sonia was killed. There's something in those dates......

I'm also wondering about that. Perhaps in this recent attack he used a knife or some sort of trauma-causing instrument which would line up with what LE found on Sonia's remains? And about the distance - remember, LE did say that 'the killer would likely move to another area'.

Maybe there is DNA from this more recent attack and LE will be comparing the two samples? IDK

I wondered if DNA from the sex assault victim matched that from SV and it took several days for the results to come in... hence the possible connection between cases.

I suppose if LE has other possible evidence linking to the men who would not give DNA samples, then they will be obtaining their DNA via other methods, and fast tracking the lab results. Not sure where the legal boundaries are with that?

I bet LE was monitoring the province for attacks the days leading up to and after the anniversary of Sonia's death.

While it is difficult to see the man in the video, his running gait, in the lower left hand corner, might give someone a clue.

Have any young men that used to live in Orangeville moved to the Orilllia area? Or maybe he just traveled there that night (Casino?) Cell phone pings might indicate that, if there were any men on LE's radar.

Casino Rama is 11 KM's/15 minutes from the Metro, fwiw.Also, LE said they released a mugshot, along with the video, but, I can't find it?

Seems the media is being pretty quiet on this story. Also, if the perp was actually at the casino, LE will definitely have better video of him. But, he could simply be a local of Orillia.

Was the place behind the Metro a common place for people to walk through?

Where was the video of the perp taken? I guess it was security surveillance as he was leaving the scene, according to one article.
