Casey's Sleep Pattern Changed After "Disappearance"?

Thanxs Star :blowkiss:, I have always felt in my mind that KC is a classic Manic personalty. My former boss at work was a classic manic up all hours of the night here in the office surfing and buying anything and everything he could off the internet, sleeping only 2 to 3 hours a night, constantly on the phone and dating services, making some of the poorest decisions I have ever seen. He only ever had two mood's 1,000 feet high or 1,000 feet low. Reminds me of KC's behavior.

***Mind you I am not saying that this disorder in no means means that she is insane and gets a get outta jail free card. Just her action really remind me of former boss.***

omg...

There is a form of bipolar often called "bipolar light". It's medical name is cyclothymic disorder. The sleeping patterns of 3-4 hours a night without any outward signs of tiredness is one of the signs of a manic episode. I have often wondered if Casey could be considered cyclothymic, but since I don't know her, it would be impossible to know.

Remember on that first phone call from jail she told her friend she hasn't gotten any sleep in three days? HA

After spending my whole life sleeping at some point almost every nite for the last 5 decades I have noticed a few things we all have in common.:Banane39:

What I have pretty much decided is, it's not that unusual for people's sleep habits to change and evolve around changes in our lives. The nitty-gritty of sleep patterns remain even when the more obvious and annoying changes are taking place. Nite owls stay nite owls, early birds remain early birds, those of us who get by normally on 4 hours vs those who prefer 9-10 continue to do so.

The fact that KC's sleep patterns changed after she removed Caylee from her life doesn't surprise me a bit, she was also living with a boy for the first time. No longer sleeping in her own room, her own house. ToNY stated she was having severe nightmares, that at least is some indication, however slight that she is on some primitive level, human at least. It would be more unusual if they didn't change.

Yes, we often stay awake during a mania, that's "classic behavior" but there are also many other "classic" symptoms that she does not present with. Lack of sleep does not mean a person has Bipolar disorder. There are CRITERIA one must meet to have such a diagnosis and having 1 or 2 items on that list does not mean a person has Bipolar or that they show "classic symptoms" of it. I'm sorry but this whole blame everything on Bipolar thing is getting out of hand.. no wonder it's so over-diagnosed these days.. no wonder so much of society doubts the people with true Bipolar disorder.

My goodness, yes. There are umpteen disorders that can cause insomnia, not to mention stress, etc.

Thank goodness at least some researchers and doctors are starting to look at the specific areas of the brain that cause specific symptoms in looking for treatments instead of broad, easily misdiagnosed terms like bipolar. This is especially crucial since so many disorders are comorbid with others.

i dunno.... i normally sleep 4-5 hours a night... between baby sleuth kicking the crap out of me and my 3 year old daughter waking up with night terrors..

when chloe's at gramma's and not here to wake me up however, i could sleep a good 10 hours..

i would associate her sleeping with
1) no caylee around to wake her up
2) sleeping off all the booze and god knows what else
3) depression? maybe if it were someone else... casey doesn't get depressed because casey had no conscience

OMG!! Thank You!! I've been trying really hard to hold my tongue...I think on some other threads I wasn't doing as well...LOL
I know first hand it's no walk in the park....it's horrible.....and I've said before...if you go by the "symptoms" often listed, the whole world would be bi-polar.

I saw this on the Today Show as well. My first thought was that the sleep patterns were not of somebody who changed because she was depressed, they changed because the baby wasn't waking her up anymore.

I've got a 2 1/2 year old daughter. While overall she gets a full nights sleep, she does wake her parents :)

I guess I always thought manic was a generic descriptive term for several disorders as in a Manic Depressive or Manic bi-polar ect.
I could however have thought way off base. Certainly I meant no disrespect to anyone that has a particular disorder nor judgment. I do know so little about these mental disorders, and by asking and suggesting I learn that my thinking is wrong and I can move on more informed.

Are you saying that because I am profiling him or because of the odd behavior. Can't tell. I say he was manic just because of what I have read and watching his behavior, and trying to get him the help I thought he needed. Maybe I could have saved him (please see below)

I am sorry if I have offended you in anyway wasn't my intention. Just thought that some of the things I saw in my boss I saw in what little bit of KC that has been brought forth.

I can however say that in one of his spells he jumped in his own plane during an Ice storm here in CO to fly to Texas to ask a woman to marry him that he met once, that plane crashed and he died on impact.

I think this thread is getting sidetracked into a bipolar debate.

Has anyone found any mention of this sleep pattern change theory in the docs?
Is it that TL gave them some insight of how much she sleeps? Or that they have observed how much she sleeps in jail? I think the latter would not be a valid comparison since it is bound to be boring there and she would sleep more. You do notice that virtually every video of a visit to Casey shows her looking like she just woke up.

If the prosecution brings this up at trial, just what would be their point?
That she is sleeping more due to depression? No child to wake her? Change in drug use?

It's how I sleep even when medicated. I take 3-4 hour naps, that's it. When not medicated I can stay awake for several nights straight, no need for my little 3-4 hour naps.

Been there. I straighten out pretty good with the meds. I hope you find some relief, I understand where you're at.

Wonder how she is doing in the jail now...
Wonder if her sleeping pattern is different... now that
she can't TEXT every other minute.... or talk... or hang
out with the "GUYS" ?
Just Wondering...

God Bless Everyone who is Helping Seek Justice for Little Angel CAYLEE!

In the criminal justice system we call it the "sleep of the guilty." Innocent people can't sleep and the guilty sleep like babies. There's an anecdote that if you want to see who is guilty and who is innocent throw them both in a jail cell overnight. The one sleeping is the guilty one.

Now that is very interesting.

Yes very interesting, but is that something that could be brought into court by a professional? Just wondering.

I think that it's not the fact that sleep patterns change, it's the timing of the change in Casey's case and how they changed. I know the information from the texting was used to show she only got 3-4 hours BEFORE Caylee's disappearance but if they use the same criteria to show she slept more after, I don't think that could be completely accurate. The posters are astute: she had no 2 year old to wake her and she was probably having more sex and staying in bed longer without the nag of responsibility to her child, a job or her mother.

Your thought process is based in reality, on the known facts (as you listed some above) of what was going on in her life at the time. It sure seems natural that a persons sleep habits would change when they are planning the murder and then after the murder of their own child.

IMO, this information shows (me at least) that she does "feel" and was indeed effected by the death of her daughter.. though not like you or I would be effected.

LOL- this is my relief! I have straightened out considerably with meds thank G0d... my lack of sleep is the only breakthrough "symptom" I have..Thank G0d!!

I'm glad you too have gotten relief from your symptoms :)

I'm a little confused about how we know when she slept. It seems the claims about her sleep are based on her on-line and texting activity. So, it's being assumed that because she wasn't texting or on-line that she was sleeping at those times? Doesn't make sense to me because she was just "moving in" with TonE, going out clubbing, sleeping at Ricardo's, etc etc. Before she killed Caylee (if SHE killed her) she was sitting home at her moms every night with texting and internet as her only source of entertainment. She was stuck home.. after Caylee was dead she wasn't.. of course the amount of time online and texting are going to change with her new found freedom!

I have not been able to read all the new docs. Does anyone know where this detail came from in the docs and if so can you post it here?

http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/268644

It's also a sign that there's no little girl around waking you up.

If this sleep pattern change supposition is actually in the docs, then I wonder how they can even figure that? Did someone observe her sleeping more? Or are they judging it by cell phone use? Just because she doesn't use her cell phone doesn't mean she is asleep, although with Casey that is a good bet.

Page 4143 of the 3/5 doc dump, I don't think it's been put up by the media, so here it is:

I can understand why Casey wasn't sleeping before. She DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ALL DAY for a year and 1/2. She couldn't have done much and got in all that texting and surfing.

After June 16 Casey was auditioning to be a wife. She was cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping and doing laundry for Tony and his roommates and his friends. Before that Casey probably didn't even do her own laundry, let alone Caylee's. Plus now Casey had to squeeze in relationship talks, video games with Tony and cuddling up watching television.

New relationships are intense.

Casey barely was able to make time to dispose of Caylee. She couldn't tear herself away from Tony in the 3 days after June 27 to put gas in her car. She hadn't found time before June 27 to clean up her car.

I think Casey didn't text her friends after June 16 because she was busy. Her friends were also old stuff...like Caylee.

Casey wouldn't have taken Amy's checkbook the way she did if she wasn't done with Amy.

IMO

I am not aware of any studies done on it that would permit testimony on it by a professional.
