We've got kids who's step sister is about to get her license and ours will be getting a permit in only a year. You know how fast time goes by. They think she's going to be so cool because she can drive.

They really need to understand the dangers.

I would like to use it for educational purposes, after viewing it of course to make sure it isn't too bad.

I guess I could see texting as a passenger but not while DRIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i don't think they said that it was really the driver though... just one of the girls in the car was in the middle of texting. i thought that what i read was that driver was talking to the driver of the other car or getting ready to do so when the wreck happened. which was kind of traumatic for the girl on the other end of the line, i guess. i'll have to find the article. didn't someone post that talking on a cell phone while driving is illegal in NY? is that true?

Talking on your cellphone while driving is definitely illegal in NY state, but it's not illegal to dial or text while driving. Look for this to be added to the law eventually.

To be honest, the law hasn't done an ounce of good in my opinion. The fine is a measly $100. It's not enough to deter anyone. I live in NY, and I see people driving all of the time while talking on their cellphones, even the cops.

I don't know if it is the one that was posted, but there is one on the 13WHAM.com (local tv station) site. It shows the vehicles after the crash.

Don't think we'll ever really know what caused her to veer into the other lane again.

Our "little town" is becoming an artist and musical mecca for Central Texas, and with that comes lots and lots of money. The kids have way too much money and the vehicles that they drive amaze me. We have 16 year olds driving $40,000+ pickups 80 down the road. I refused to allow my children to have their DL until they turned 18, yes they were upset, but now they admit that I was right. I only allowed my son to drive a 4 cylinder Toyota PU until he bought his own. I also made them go to my insurance agent and spend about an hour with him, he discussed how car insurance policies worked. Unfortunately every couple of years we have a horrible car accident here that kills 2-6 teens. We didnt have one last year or this year, I'm afraid that next year might be the year.

These kids are on the phone, changing CD's and driving WAY to fast and of course not paying attention. My daughters driving scares me, and I tell her so. I also told her that she does not have the experience to be driving and talking on the phone, so pull over. I thought that Texas tried to pass a law that if the driver was under 17/18 they could only have their siblings in the vehicle with them. Did that law pass?

They're still waiting for drug tests. I doubt they were on drugs, though. Was it ever mentioned if they wore seatbelts or had airbags that went off? Just curious. Probably the impact was so high, nothing would save them. Often people in the back seat might survive, though, wonder if they wore their seatbelts?

That's great, I really believe in that. If you have something urgent you can always pull over and use the cell phone.

I think they were, because while some contents of the car were on the roadway, none of the passengers were thrown out. In the pics of the vehicle, it looked like only one person could have had a chance, whomever was in the back right, but obviously that was not to be.

All though it is a small mercy at least they died on impact rather than burning to death trapped in the truck. Oh man I start tearing up just typing this.

I thought the close-ups were just to show how very bad the damage was to the interior. Unrecognizable. That had been an SUV. That impact was in no way survivable. Those sweet families and friends, how horrendous.

Maybe I'm wrong or desensitized from being here too long, but that didn't seem any more graphic to me than lots of other stuff we show or talk about at WS.

Honestly, the interviews with the girls in the other car, looking at their photos and myspace pages, and the video from the funerals was much more upsetting.

I wonder if any of them were alive but in bad shape or stuck and then burned.

Because i watched this video & a witness said that the girls were screaming in her back yard and shes said they were yelling "They cant get out, they cant get out!" & then they were like "Omg were just watching them burn"

so i really want to know if any of those girls were alive for a few seconds before it went up in flames.

Looking at the wreckage, I am confident that they were all beyond feeling before the flames erupted. Perhaps not technically dead, but certainly not aware of what was going on.

If the ME said they died on impact, I have to assume that he examined their lung tissue and found no evidence that they were breathing when the fire broke out. At least the two girls in the front probably had massive head injuries that he was able to see as well.

Small comfort, but something.....
