Happy and full of life. I just hope their families and friends can in time, deal with the overwhelming grief they must be feeling. Thanks for sharing the myspace link.
Maybe I'm wrong or desensitized from being here too long, but that didn't seem any more graphic to me than lots of other stuff we show or talk about at WS.
Honestly, the interviews with the girls in the other car, looking at their photos and myspace pages, and the video from the funerals was much more upsetting.
I live in NY and use an ear piece if I am on a cell phone when driving; however, I think that it is still distracting to do so.Talking on your cellphone while driving is definitely illegal in NY state...
I agree... I didn't find the video graphic at all...
Sad of course, but nothing too graphic.
It's hard to believe that FIVE young people were in there and died. There's nothing left of the front, it's unrecognizable as the vehicle it had been moments before. But I guess you're right, it's the images in my mind that are more graphic than the actual footage.I've had the unfortunate experience of being on a couple accident scenes, this one is really bad, perhaps the worst. Amazing that the truck driver survived without injury, there's nothing left of his cab either. And incredible that the vehicle wasn't pushed into the red van that the girls had just passed or anyone else. It seems right after the moment of impact the truck driver was steering to the right off the road to get the wreck away from other's. The girls vehicle must have erupted in fire first.

Errr, I mean talking by holding the phone up to your ear. Headsets are perfectly legal.
I knew what you meant, my dear.I still think that it is distracting to be talking--even when using a headset--while you are trying to drive.

Oh boy! That made me cry. Such beautiful women.
Well, so is smoking in your car, eating, or anything else that involves extra thinking or taking your hands off of the steering wheel.
I saw this couple at Wegmans (super market) with their 2 kids...haha, they were both wearing identical bluetooth headsets. I just shook my head.
Here is another website made for the girls.
You can donate to the fund & buy their bracelets.
Which are absolutely adorable!!
Theres also really sweet videos of the vigil and interviews with friends.

Well, not to bag on these girls, but I don't see the point of this.
"some suggestions have included a memorial garden with 5 eternal flames at the new football field"
Come on now. Is this necessary? I went to Fairport High and a kid in my class died of a brain tumor, which is just as tragic. I don't recall any fund being established for this poor kid. These kids were graduated and died doing something non-school related. How about use that money to raise awareness to prevent kids driving beyond the measures of their license or texting/talking on your cellphone while driving?
I think this money is going to be misspent. Just my opinion.
Eternal flames...come on...
At the discretion of the principal? what about the families?
why can't the money just go to a worthy cause in their honor? it has to go to some public display of...
i agree. like you said - so many children die of tragedies very day. why do these kids deserve eternal flames at the high school?
they were traveling for a personal event. they were no longer students. were not victims of any crime that occured (so far as we know) just because they were students of the high school - how is this related to thie high school at all? why not help the families pay for funeral costs?

That website has some links to videos about people's reactions. People saying things like "They didn't deserve this." OF COURSE THEY DIDN'T!!! No one really deserves to die. I don't know, the site and the ideas expressed on it irritated me, so I left.
The girls died in a tragic accident. I'm very sorry. I just think this thing is starting to go overboard now.
I agree...they were special to those who loved them, but they aren't more special than any other student who has died, just b/c they were popular cheerleaders. They weren't Presidents of the USA & didn't die in service to their country...they were just young women. Their loss is felt keenly by those who loved them, but let's put it in perspective.
