Chicago Police Kill 2 During Domestic Disturbance Call

  • #121
"Dorsey said an aluminum bat could cause injury but "is not a deadly force."

nonsense.

The police said he charged (matter of perception) down the steps. Nothing about swinging the bat at anyone.
If he had we probably would have heard about it.
And I'll believe the "charging" when I see it with my own eyes.

Tillicum. You are just filled with Boom. Breaking News. Just WoW. Hold up.

He grew up in Foster care. But I assume that both mom and dad is his biologicals. Am I correct.

What's next.

Dex, darling, you need to get your own fingers working on the google and pull your own weight.

Come on.

Agree. You can't charge down the stairs while swinging a bat. So they could have tackled him on the near bottom of the steps or the landing.

Prison guards have to do similar take downs all of the time with no guns and surrounded by criminals. Jmo. The cops should be forced to train with correction officers. Jmo. They can even get them those protective suits for the purpose of getting close without getting hurt. Jmo

this was a mentally ill person that was taking new medication and then abruptly stopped taking it, and that we know for a fact was acting irrationally and threateningly while wielding a bat just immediately prior to the police arriving. why do you find it so hard to believe that he might have charged at a cop? i dont know if he did or not, but it certainly doesnt sound unbelievable.

All the talk about treating someone in a mental health crisis made me think about what psych hospital workers have to deal with every day, and none of them are armed.

So when charging at you with a bat the person has to swing it before you consider it a threat? What about a knife, if I just have a knife in my hand and I charge at you do I only become a deadly threat if I start to make stabbing motions? You honestly think police should be required to tackle and roll around with people that advance on them while armed?

They also are fairly well assured that the people they are dealing with are not armed, and they have armed security available at all times.

The facilities are designed and tailored to the needs though, not like out in the public.

Sure it could have happened but according to the father the officer said something along the lines of no no I thought he was lunging at me and we have an innocent bystander killed as a result of this incident.
And then I factor in all the recent cases with video proof that officers have lied about the need to shoot...kind of hard for me to trust that there was a valid reason to shoot.

Note to self...never hurry down the steps with a bat.

Agree. Also Ronald Reagan decided that most mental wards should be closed down while letting Oliver North smuggle in that medicinal cocaine.

And we wonder why mental illness has become worse in the last decades. Jmo. Just my Reagan rant for the day.

But we can't put it all on him since others made that decision as well.

Loony because her son was just murdered, maybe? Seems unfair to be calling her names right now.
then people wonder why victims' families don't speak in public sometimes. Damned if you do damned if you don't

It's crazy (!) how mental illness is treated, or rather not treated when we know so much more and have so many more treatment options available. Very sad. Still LE isn't trained how to properly deal with someone in crisis? My sister-in-law worked in a psych hospital. She's 5'3 and has had to take down patients who are practically twice her size. Never killed anyone.

I am just talking about her statements to the press and the way she is throwing the father under the bus. Her claiming her son was not violent when the husband obviously was afraid that he was. And her telling her son to stop taking his meds, without any kind of tapering off with medical help. And calling out the husband for not being by her side but being at an attorneys office instead. She seems kind of confrontational with the husband.

Yes they learn how to control with words or holds. My friend (also small in sz) works in corrections. Hugging her is like hugging a rock. No hint of softness. I worry about her but so far she has had no issues.
Police need better training. IMO

My friend. If 1 cop was there then cool. But when several alpha males are standing around but resort to gun usage with a lady in harms way; Tells us that these guys were too quick to shoot. Jmo.

Btw. Cops never know the full extent of a 911 call or the situation.

I just wish the dad had told the cops that his neighbor will open the door for them. Because they probably thought she was this kid's break in accomplice and just started firing before truly realizing that this was a domestic dispute with father and son. Jmo

Right? I started working the graveyard shift at a group home for adults with dd and other issues when I was 19. I'm 5 feet zero inches. One man used to try to "scratch my eyes out" pretty regularly.

I think that is kind of an unfair comparison. An agitated individual looks very differently at a small, kind woman who wearing a nurse's uniform, as opposed to how they might look at an individual in a cops' uniform. The aggression could be automatic when they see the cop, and not the same reaction towards the nurse.
