Have a friend who works with DCF in FL. They have to investigate every charge of child abuse.
That is the case in most, if not all, states. The charge of felony child neglect would fall under DCF and they would have to investigate. They would then need to report to the court and make a recommendation regarding what is in the best interest of the child. They have likely been involved from the beginning but their investigation is protected through confidentiality laws in most states...much like a doctor or lawyer, so the public wouldn't be privy to the information until it was brought out in court. This is to protect the child's privacy in most cases. Unless Caylee is found or pronounced legally deceased then custody will remain an issue. I'm not sure DCF involvement and the legal custody of Caylee could affect the legal charges/proceedings...is their a lawyer in the house??
