Wasn't AM already out of college by October 2023? Wasn't he teaching by then?
Just in case, I'm looking into rugby matches in the area for late Sept-early Oct 2023 and nothing pops out as significant, imo.
At this point, I'm not seeing a connection, but odd that VT LE would put it out there as a possibility without first checking some basics, so what do I know.

Ahhh. Good point about the timing of the VT murder. Time off for a Rugby match?
Unlikely, but at this point who knows!
Interesting fact: sixteen miles from Castleton, where Mrs Fleming got murdered, lies Ruthland. Guess what is in Ruthland? A rugby club.
I could find no Ruthland, VT, but there is a
Rutland, VT.
The home pitch of Rutland Rugby is in West Rutland, VT. According to its
website:
We are a community-based rugby club welcoming players and fans of all experience levels.
West Rutland is only 8.2 miles (13 minutes by car) from Castleton, VT, where Honoree Fleming was shot and killed:

According to a
Bennington Banner article,
Honoree Fleming, a retired Vermont State University dean, shot to death on trail near campus, Dr. Honoree was killed on a trail near the Castleton campus of Vermont State University, where she was a retired dean.
The university webpage,
Athletics at Vermont State, lists athletics teams at the various Vermont State campuses. The Castleton campus currently has a women’s rugby team, but no team for men. It does, however, have a
cross country team for men and women. The trails around that campus must be very nice for an avid runner.
To compound the tragedy of Honoree’s murder in October 2023,
her schizophrenic son committed suicide in 2005. Her husband was Ron Powers, a Pulitzer Prize winning author. According to the
Bennington Banner article linked above:
More recently, Powers wrote “No One Cares About Crazy People: The Chaos and Heartbreak of Mental Health in America,” about his sons' battles with schizophrenia.
So even Honoree’s living son suffers from schizophrenia. It has been speculated on this thread that Andrew McGann possibly suffers from schizophrenia or other serious mental illness. I wonder if he ever read
Power’s 2017 book.
I think Vermont is a red-haired herring.
I'm willing to change my mind, but he needs to be in that state at that time. I don't see it, at this point.

I agree. Honoree’s murder occurred on a Thursday in October 2023, so AM should have been teaching in Oklahoma that day. I could find no teaching conferences in Vermont that October, and I find it unlikely that AM would travel there for a rugby match, or just to run Castleton’s trails.
But Vermont police did reach out to Arkansas authorities, asking if there is a possible connection:
