Clinton David Brink, 43 & Cristen Amanda Brink, 41 found on trail - Devil's Den State Park, AR- 26 July, 2025 #3 *Arrest*

The Vermont case, that VT LE thinks might be connected to this case, has a thread on WS. I'm having trouble linking, so hope this works:

Interesting fact: sixteen miles from Castleton, where Mrs Fleming got murdered, lies Ruthland. Guess what is in Ruthland? A rugby club.
Your post gave me goose bumps, @Hexe, in a hinky sort of way.

Hopefully LE (i.e. FBI) is casting a wider net than just areas of unsolved murders near where AJM lived or went to school.

Let's take a closer look also at where his club played Rugby! Even internationally.

Now I'm getting the picture of why AJM liked to run on trails... I doubt he's a trail runner... more like a 'Trail Killer' perhaps. Don't forget John Schmutzer.

IMO on first cup of coffee.

Wasn't AM already out of college by October 2023? Wasn't he teaching by then?

Just in case, I'm looking into rugby matches in the area for late Sept-early Oct 2023 and nothing pops out as significant, imo.

At this point, I'm not seeing a connection, but odd that VT LE would put it out there as a possibility without first checking some basics, so what do I know.

Well, here's the thing. At some point in my sleuthing travels on this case I came to learn that AJM played with a Rugby club, not associated with his high school or college.

That Rugby club played internationally.

See this post from @ADP2019 in T#2.

I'll try to find that link... anyone have it??
Would like to know that team when you find it. I do know his high school team traveled out of the country to play, but he was injured and couldn't play.

So, are you thinking he took time off from his teaching job to play in a tournament in Vermont? I suppose it's possible, but I'm not jumping onboard yet.

eta: I think the Vermont victim was killed on a Thursday.

Ahhh. Good point about the timing of the VT murder. Time off for a Rugby match?

Unlikely, but at this point who knows!

I think Vermont is a red-haired herring.

I'm willing to change my mind, but he needs to be in that state at that time. I don't see it, at this point.

As for the hair, AM's hair have pretty distinct reddish tint. Seen in certain light they might appear red. Also, the composite looks an awful lot like AG. I would not be scratching hom out as a suspect that easily.
Snipped for emphasis
Unlike the composite sketch used in the Devil’s Den crime, this one has AM's eyes, nose, lips. I see a stunning resemblance.

I think, the intruder might be him possibly.

I noticed:
Relatively little feet (video with dog). AJM seems to have little feet (video at the barber, when he climbs the stairs).
RSBM
I did see the little feet too! But dismissed it as coincidence given the very broad shoulders and tiny hips of the 'break-in' perp. Great observations about possible use of shoulder pads...

Hopefully @mddog9810 sends these stories / videos of 'break-in perp' to the FBI regardless of what any of us think!

No smiles in any of the pictures we have seen of him.
Well, Kahn made AJM smile, circa a few years ago, we were told by an OP.

OK, but he could have money saved to get him through the summer. And $2500/mo is $30K per year - a teacher with 6-7 years of experience is going to be making at least $50K (IMHO plus a little internet research).

I'm not understanding the focus on his finances - was there somehow a financial motive for these homicides?

He was Declared Indigent and is being provided an attorney

Finances can be related to a lot of things involving crime
Broke means- not getting rich from drug deals, not an online pedo pic supplier
Is he stressed? Due to financial issues
He was alone with two victims who are deceased, did he rob them?
No savings
$7400 in credit card debt
$1700 rent 3 bedroom house
$50 cash

Car payment, student loans, not listed on financial info
He has three years of teaching full-time, all in different districts, in different states

Motive undetermined so far
IMO

IMO:
LE must surely be struck by how closely the nose matches his; and that the eyes, mouth and face shape are also similar.

I wonder how easy it will be to find out if he was in Vermont at that time? I actually did not believe he'd been involved in prior crimes until I saw this composite sketch. How can that nose be just coincidence?

To commit the crime in Vermont, AM had to have been in Vermont.

I made a half-hearted attempt to place him there at the time of the murder and didn't find anything. But perhaps someone with more persistence can.

The murder in Vermont was Thursday, October 5, 2023.

True. I wonder if there was any reason for him to be there. Maybe he went to see a social media contact?

In addition to the composite being stunningly close, there is also the ginger hair, the education aspect, the trail, the black bag. I can see why LE are following this theory. Would there still be any footage of his car at the time, or hotel records? Close to 2 years now.

I would assume LE has access to his credit card accounts by now and could check for travel to Vermont on those dates. They could check employers to see if he took time off.

I don't see him being the Vermont killer. AM was teaching by in 2023, right? The Vermont murder was a weekday in October 2023.

But, we'll see. I recall stranger things happening.

I wouldn't believe it either, or even be interested, if the police in Vermont had not
reached out to Arkansas due to the composite and other details. Time will tell if it's a real connection or a red herring.

It's hard to keep cold cases active and perhaps this was an opportunity to remind the public that VT is looking for a red-headed murderer.

And, it's worth asking - that's being responsible, imo.

Just a thought.

Interesting fact: sixteen miles from Castleton, where Mrs Fleming got murdered, lies Ruthland. Guess what is in Ruthland? A rugby club.

I could find no Ruthland, VT, but there is a Rutland, VT.

The home pitch of Rutland Rugby is in West Rutland, VT. According to its website:

We are a community-based rugby club welcoming players and fans of all experience levels.

West Rutland is only 8.2 miles (13 minutes by car) from Castleton, VT, where Honoree Fleming was shot and killed:

Source: Apple Maps

According to a Bennington Banner article, Honoree Fleming, a retired Vermont State University dean, shot to death on trail near campus, Dr. Honoree was killed on a trail near the Castleton campus of Vermont State University, where she was a retired dean.

The university webpage, Athletics at Vermont State, lists athletics teams at the various Vermont State campuses. The Castleton campus currently has a women’s rugby team, but no team for men. It does, however, have a cross country team for men and women. The trails around that campus must be very nice for an avid runner.

To compound the tragedy of Honoree’s murder in October 2023, her schizophrenic son committed suicide in 2005. Her husband was Ron Powers, a Pulitzer Prize winning author. According to the Bennington Banner article linked above:

More recently, Powers wrote “No One Cares About Crazy People: The Chaos and Heartbreak of Mental Health in America,” about his sons' battles with schizophrenia.

So even Honoree’s living son suffers from schizophrenia. It has been speculated on this thread that Andrew McGann possibly suffers from schizophrenia or other serious mental illness. I wonder if he ever read Power’s 2017 book.

I think Vermont is a red-haired herring.

I'm willing to change my mind, but he needs to be in that state at that time. I don't see it, at this point.

I agree. Honoree’s murder occurred on a Thursday in October 2023, so AM should have been teaching in Oklahoma that day. I could find no teaching conferences in Vermont that October, and I find it unlikely that AM would travel there for a rugby match, or just to run Castleton’s trails.

But Vermont police did reach out to Arkansas authorities, asking if there is a possible connection:

Police contact Arkansas authorities in probe of 2023 killing of Honoree Fleming in Castleton
