this would seem to be a good compromise. I think the restrictions/limitations to the expanded coverage the judge has ordered are good ones.

ETA: Chapter 38, Rule 3 of the Colorado Supreme Court Rules provides the standard of authorizing expanded media coverage "EMC" (and where the exception for considering cameras/EMC is limited to advisements and arraignments only).

In summary, for James Craig's trial --per the 11/20/24 EMC ORDER, the Court has granted EMC for the opening statements, closing arguments, and the verdict only. Audio recording is to be done as part of the video recording allowed as set forth above. Also, members of the media may utilize their personal electronics inside the courtroom thus live tweeting from the trial is allowed.

More importantly, the trial can be viewed live on Webex.

However, please be reminded that Colorado law prohibits the recording and/or broadcasting from Webex. In other words, if you miss the live trial coverage via WebEx, there will be no alternate source to view later. MOO

From the EMC Order, page three:

5. The Court will allow media to participate in the Webex broadcast. No media outlet or non-media individual may record, either audio or video, from Webex. Further, when entering the Webex, media must clearly and fully identify themselves by name and organization in order to gain admittance into the Webex conference. The Court reserves the right to remove any media organization from the Webex for violation of any of the above restrictions, security concerns, or other concerns relating to the fairness of the proceedings.

6. The Court will not be utilizing any additional livestream platforms, other than Webex,
throughout the proceedings.

and defense has only just now discovered they have a professional conflict? Wonder what that conflict could be that seemingly just arose?

How often does legal counsel withdraw in murder cases? It just feels like I have noticed this more of late.

The defendant, James Craig, declined to represent himself, and the judge continued the trial over the People's objection. The case is currently scheduled for an Appearance of Counsel Hearing on December 16 at 8:30 a.m.(2 of 2)

Withdrawal is not necessarily a choice but sometimes a requirement for reasons cited in the
Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct.

What is different here is the Court allowing the defendant's attorney to withdraw on the eve of trial -- and at the objection of the People! Seems to me the Court didn't see it had any choice but to allow defense counsel be replaced. JMO

Steinberg cited two specific reasons under that rule which include, "the client persists in a course of action involving the lawyer's services that the lawyer reasonably believes is criminal or fraudulent" and the "client insists upon taking action that the lawyer considers repugnant or with which the lawyer has a fundamental disagreement."
Prosecutors seek solicitation of murder charge against Aurora dentist charged in wife's death

while I am irritated beyond belief that trial will be pushed out now due to this withdrawal, I must give respect to the attorney for doing so. Sounds like his client wanted him to sign off on criminal actions and attorney refused. JC is a real piece of, er, work.

Given his most recent charges I think it is safe to assume the newest allegations relate to the fundamental disagreement JC's now former attorney had with him.

Wowza, clearly JC is having issues.
I knew trial previously delayed, though, didn't realize this is the third time.
I am not surprised this delay came up. I was actually surprised to see everything coming along... and then this. :) So yeah, no surprise.

One day it will happen, he will have to face a court of law as the defendant for the alleged poisoning murder death of his beautiful wife, Angela. Time will tell when he will have to take accountability for his actions.

End of rambling. ;)

I really respect this Attorney as well.
What a sociopath James Craig is turning out to be IMO. It's very scary that he was so well respected it seems and looked up to realizing how he really is beneath the mask.
Solicitation of murder? I'm taking it that this is a new victim maybe?

I'm guessing he didn't want to pay child support for 6 children and have his name tainted... because she wanted to leave him several times per her sister.

So sad. Probably told not to leave him because of money, religion, family, kids...on and on...no doubt, she would have probably been judged as the "bad" wife who left such a "wonderful" husband. Been there, done that.

I think you nailed the family, religion part well. Mormons tend to be a bit judgey on family breakups

When my parents separated, I was about twelve. There was a young mother at church who wouldn't let me touch her baby, like I was contagious.
