I just watched this video myself, towards the end of the video KT reported the dive team said,

That's a reasonable alternative. If he's not in the lake perhaps he was around the area but went somewhere else.

One problem.

Those were specially trained CADAVER dogs .. the only scent they were searching for was a DEAD BODY UNDER THE WATER. If they hit on a scent that "drifted across the surface of the water" .. then I assume they mean a scent, from under the water, in another location in the lake, drifted across the surface causing the dogs to hit on the wrong location in the lake.

Cadaver dogs don't hit on the scent of a boy that could have gone somewhere else... :(

imo

I'm trying to minimize some of the elements that don't make sense to me. I'm going to think outloud here so pardon me as I ramble on...

Did Dylan really get up at 7:30am (or in that general timeframe)? Assuming dad's story is accurate and he really saw Dylan around 7:30 (either in bed or up around the house), we can go on that being the last sighting of Dylan. I can accept that he would be up at that hour, it doesn't make sense to generalize all teens as likely to sleep in late. Maybe he was an early riser and couldn't wait to begin his days.

If the plans he allegedly made with his friends on Sunday for Monday morning at 6:30 were also legitimate (though this strikes me as an odd time for a playdate but odd isn't a reason to rule it out) then the waking up early is a non-issue. Who knows, maybe they were going to solidify plans that next morning, maybe the friend's parents were going to do the driving?

The phone issue is where there's trouble. As we discussed previously, perhaps the cell reception was poor or non-existant in dad's house. This could've led Dylan to walk outside looking for cell reception to call up his friends, but I can't reconcile him bringing his charger, fishing pole, and backpack. Even with no cell reception, his cell still could be powered on and the features accessible so he would've been able to get his friend's phone numbers and call them on dad's landline. And in early reports MSM said "attempts to reach dad's home phone failed as it rang and rang." Also knowing he had a charger, that rules out that his cell phone battery died.

--- > The cell had every reason to be charged, he should've had access to the cell phone, he DID have access to it as of 8pm Sunday night when it was last used, Dad last saw him (according to his word) at 7:30 am in the house... then Dylan and phone are never seen or heard from again. We've heard nothing of a breakin or abduction from the house itself. No attempted contact by Dylan using dad's house phone. I am okay with Dylan getting up early on Monday AM with intentions of meeting friends, which he seemed excited for. But instead he goes in the other direction alone fishing in the freezing cold?

I feel like I'm trying to make 2+2 = 10. Folks, it's not happening!

I don't know who their carrier is but I have Verizon and can go online at any time and view the records for all 5 of the phones on our plan. It would show the time that texts are sent/received (including the other party's number) when phone calls were placed or answered (again including the other party's number & length of call) plus when voice mail is accessed and if/when the phone connects to the Internet (assuming a wifi connection isn't the access point).

Verizon also stores a copy of text messages for a set period of time (30 days I believe) and those can be obtained by request (and perhaps payment) of the account holder or LE subpoena.

I have Verizon too, the access for account holders is very good, as you've indicated. I don't believe you can access where the phone in question was when it made /received calls though, and I'm not sure about texts. If the phone last pinged at / around the dad's house, that open's up a looong line of new questions. The content of the texts would be helpful to check if they appear to have come from Dylan. I'm not sure about other capabilities in tracing phones but hopefully the FBI has already done whatever they can.

Mom very well could provide this information but LE would also want an official subpoena in case information was ever needed for a trial...JMO

So Dad has yet to make a public appearance to ask for the safe return of his son? I can still see the pain in Jessica Rideway's fathers face as he embraced her mother, as they too are divorced. jmo

I have Family Locator on our plan so I can trace my kids' phones to a decent degree in real time but I can't see the archives. There is also a wide variety of apps on both iTunes and the android market that serve the same purpose but they need to be installed on the phone beforehand. Barring one of those apps or similar service from the carrier the only hope of locating the phone would be getting the ping records.

just thought of this - what if someone is hiding Dylan? And that would mean Dylan is still alive (which I know we all want and pray for...)

It only took me over an hour to get caught up on the thread!!

Some really good previous posts!!

My math is adding up about as poorly as yours.

Unfortunately, I think pretty soon we'll be free to openly discuss what many of us sadly suspect has happened to Dylan. Until then, I'll continue biting my tongue and praying for the best while expecting the worse.

Via Kevin torres they will start searching house to house

Oh, I didn't mean to imply otherwise. I was just saying that the option exists and that it could be used while waiting on LE to get a subpoena and for the carrier to provide the data officially.

Also per Torres FB...
They're asking any volunteers to stop volunteering with the investigation? Huh?

Someone yesterday had good reasoning for this but I can't remember who. I will explain my own situation which appeared similar to hers.

My parents are divorced and growing up, I was at my dad's every other weekend. He lived in the country on a farm. My mom's house was also in the country but closer to town and I went to school there. With my mom, I was always with friends, on the phone, etc. etc. At my dad's, my sister and I would play in the woods, ride horses, watch movies with my dad. It was two completely different lifestyles. So maybe my dad would have described me as being a more outdoorsy person, whereas my mom would probably have described me as being into friends, etc. Does that make sense?

Also, who knows if dad is being honest. It makes the fishing story much more believable if Dylan is an "outdoorsy" kid.

Thank you, if I had thought about it a little more I would realize that. I understand it a little better now.

I would imagine/hope this has already been done. How else would they know his phone had not been used since sunday night? I don't know anything about pings etc. so how do they know? tia

I agree HUH? that means no more searching the area, to me that is a weird request!

says the team will be going north from the dam

(is this heading away from the Father's home or back toward it?)

I am thinking they may have gotten some pings back etc etc etc to set up a more detailed canvas :twocents:

I have seen that happen many times in many different cases (re: LE asks volunteers to steer clear of the search area/searching)

Volunteers create too many evidentiary problems. And you can't have random volunteers searching people houses for LE.

  • #120
Searches usually scale back around the week mark and the searches that do happen tend to be very organized and after a certain point even just trained people or limited volunteers. I can see them not wanting random people traipsing all over the woods to try to find him. I have seen the request before, but it is always jarring to see it.
