I still wonder with it being elk hunting season if he decided to walk to his friends, take a short cut through the woods, and because he wasn't in flourescent hunting gear, he was mistaken for an elk.

I think that could be a possibility. I wonder if the searches that have been done have been adequate for that terrain/area. Seems like it would be a huge area to completely search, but I'm not familiar with that area so it's just a guess on my part...

Did they ever bring in the bloodhounds that were talked about this past weekend?

Has it rained there since Dylan went missing?

La Plata County officials search for 13-year-old Dylan Redwine who's been missing since Monday

Members of La Plata County Search & Rescue team using bloodhounds searched for the teen Monday night and Tuesday. The search area included the shoreline around Vallecito Lake, several small subdivisions, county roads, steep wooded hillsides and hiking trails. Many of the homes in the area are seasonal while some are occupied year around.

It looks like elk season was over:
http://wildlife.state.co.us/Hunting/SeasonDatesAndFees/Pages/BigGameDatesAndFees.aspx

There's a "late rifle elk" but that appears to be optional, not sure if they did it this year or even around Durango.

Wasn't elk season on Nov. 19th? I read someone say earlier that it was the opening then.

Of course, that wouldn't rule out anyone out varmint hunting, for rabbit, squirrel, etc. My family hunts in CA. Deer usually. But I know that anyone out needs to wear reflective hunting gear to not be mistaken for quarry. I'm just wondering IF he was wandering around, just on an adventure, checking things out, if he didn't run into a hunter and there was an accident.

That's what else I'd wondered about, is those seasonal homes. I had originally thought he took off and decided to poach in one of those. He'd have everything he needed. But that would have gotten old a week ago.

So the have accounted for him on Sunday completely then and are now looking from Monday on. This pretty much says he made it safe and sound to his father's house and disappeared from there.

Since the police are looking at this as a criminal investigation, they must either think he was abducted or kidnapped???

That would be the late season elk.

There will be an option for limited antlerless seasons with licenses issued by GMU/DAU, as needed to achieve population objectives. Season lengths variable within time frame by GMU/DAU & set annually.

Nov. 19 thru
Jan. 31, 2013

So it depends on whether there are a lot of elk, I guess. Rifle elk began all the way in mid-October, so a lot of the prime hunting areas would have been picked over by then. I'm not a hunter, I just carpool with one who has elk tags and has never bagged one.

It seems the terrain would be a hard place to find someone without a thorough, line type search. Something an organized search party would do with hundreds of volunteers. IMO

That's one of the frustrating bits, we don't know why they think it was criminal. I get the impression it was process of elimination - they haven't found evidence that he voluntarily left, since he hasn't shown up at a friend's place or was found nearby shivering in the woods. If the police have some kind of proof it was criminal in nature, they haven't shared that proof with us AFAIK.

What if there was a vehicle parked there at the airport for them? For instance, I know friends who have had their husbands come in from business trips late or at a time when they could not go pick them up, so they will arrange for someone to take them over at a more convenient time and leave a vehicle for their husband to drive home.

I hope Dylan wouldn't talk to a stranger on the plane, and tell him about his upcoming plans with his father, or where his father might live, but it is a possibility.

its possible someone could have had a vehicle parked at the airport for them, but that means they needed to get to that vehicle while still following Dylan. I have no idea of what the car parking situation at Durango airport so it may be possible to locate a car while watching where and which vehicle someone else gets into.

Dylans plans from what we've been told are that he was planning on spending the night at his mates, but plans changed and then he was going to meet up with them at 6.30am and then plans changed again because he wouldn't get up.

I think I've read every post, but maybe I missed something. How do you figure they've accounted for Sunday completely? Maybe I'm naive, but I always assumed that Mr. Redwine was telling the truth about the airport and Wal-Mart. He seems like a bright man, and everyone knows (I think) that cameras are usually recording in those places, so to claim he was there if he wasn't wouldn't make any sense.

Sadly, I don't think I learned anything from the pictures, though I appreciated them -- they showed me that Dylan arrived at the airport, and went to Wal-Mart. They don't tell my anything about what happened after that point.

What am I missing?

Thank you.

SAR can do amazing things though, even without a line-type search (assuming he left voluntarily.) Watch "Mantracker" sometime (with the old host), he is an old SAR guy and could pick up trails from people intentionally trying to hide their movement.

No, they aren't letting us know anything other than these little releases that say things like it being a criminal investigation. They really haven't ruled anyone out yet either. They are not naming anyone as a POI, yet no one has been left off the hook. MR has been cooperating with the investigation and has answered questions. So far with what's been released, he's told the truth.

So with it being a criminal investigation, they might be looking outside the family, which they need to do, and stretching out to find out him.

Another day is almost at an end here in CA and Dylan has not been located. When I picked up this case two weeks ago, I had high hopes it would be resolved in a day or two and Dylan would be back home with his family, eagerly waiting for Christmas.

It has to be so hard for his whole family. All of them must be in extreme emotional pain over all this. I can't even imagine.

I also knew where my kids were so I never had to feel this with them, however, my granddaughter wandered away from her mother and I when she was about 3, in the mall and I went IN-SANE, I was so scared and didn't know which way to go and look. She was missing for about 10 minutes and it was the longest 10 minutes of my life. I cannot imagine 2 weeks of this.

The press release says:

Durango, CO – The Dylan Redwine Task Force (comprised of members of the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Durango Police Department and Bayfield Marshall’s Office) continues its active investigation in the disappearance of 13-year old Dylan Redwine who has been missing from his father’s house since Monday, November 19.

IMO LE are sending out mixed messages if many are reading that they are focusing on Sunday for when Dylan went missing.

This is the article I'm getting it from. It says he's been mising from his father's house since Monday. That pretty much leaves Sunday accounted for.

Thank you, Seajay. I guess the problem that I have is that same press release is still asking for information on Sunday, which kind of implies that they haven't filled in all of the time slots there. I could be reading it wrong, but here it is:

"The Task Force is still requesting any recreational video footage or photographs that include vehicles traveling on any routes between Durango and Vallecito Lake, taken between 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 18 through noon on Monday November 19. Citizens who have video footage or photographs that may be helpful to the investigation are asked to call dispatch at (970) 385-2900 to make an arrangement to get a copy of the footage or photographs to the Task Force."

Note that LE is asking specifically for video evidence (either footage or photos), not eyewitness accounts. I think they want to see if someone may have been following Dylan.

It's so hard for me to find things. Ugh!!

News Release: Active Investigation Continues in Search for Dylan Redwine with Search of Area Lakes
Date: Tuesday, December 4, 2012 4:00 PM MST

Durango, CO – The Dylan Redwine Task Force (comprised of members of the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Durango Police Department and Bayfield Marshall’s Office) continues its active investigation in the disappearance of 13-year old Dylan Redwine who has been missing from his father’s house since Monday, November 19.

This morning, three boats equipped with sonar resumed a search of Vallecito Reservoir and the Task Force is searching the shoreline of Vallecito Lake. “We have no new tips that have sent us back to the lake, but we’re checking in case changes in water and lake conditions could have resulted in any changes from last week,” said Dan Bender, Public Information Officer for the Dylan Redwine Task Force. “Those searches have not found anything at this time, but are continuing throughout the day today.”

A helicopter from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico searched area lakes in La Plata County this afternoon. Those lakes include: Vallecito Reservoir, Lemon Reservoir, Haviland Lake, Lake Nighthorse and Electra Lake. “These new searches are not based on any new tips either,” clarified Sgt. Bender. “We are just trying to be as thorough as possible and look as many places as we can for Dylan.”

Based on video footage from the Durango-La Plata County Airport of Dylan arriving in Durango on Sunday, November 18, and a visit on Sunday to the Durango Wal-Mart, investigators determined that Dylan was wearing the following:
• A blue baseball cap with a white front panel with the words “Duke Blue Devils” in blue on the white panel;
• A black, short-sleeved T-shirt with the large letters “DC” (possibly in grey) on the front within a thin light-colored square border around the DC logo;
• A pair of black basketball shorts that went below the knee with light-colored (possibly light blue and white) stripes on the sides; and
• Black-colored “Jordan” shoes with a white tongue and white shoelace area.

Citizens who have information that may aid in the search for Dylan are asked to leave a voicemail message on the Dylan Redwine Tip Line at 970-382-7511. If a citizen wants a return call from law enforcement, they must leave their contact information, but anonymous tips are also acceptable. This tip line is not a manned telephone number and it is not a way to get information about the search.

The Task Force is still requesting any recreational video footage or photographs that include vehicles traveling on any routes between Durango and Vallecito Lake, taken between 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 18 through noon on Monday November 19. Citizens who have video footage or photographs that may be helpful to the investigation are asked to call dispatch at (970) 385-2900 to make an arrangement to get a copy of the footage or photographs to the Task Force.

The Durango La Plata Crime Stoppers also has a cash reward for information leading to Dylan’s whereabouts. Crime Stoppers can be reached at 970-247-1112.

Citizens may also call the hotline for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-THE LOST
(1-800-843-5678).

They do seem to be interested in other vehicles now. Any recreational footage of areas on the route to the Redwine home I suppose.

I'm still trying to find the piece where it talks about it being an criminal investigation.

This is what happens when I'm here all day. Links and information gets buried in threads, and I forget where I saw them. I know I saw something about ti being a criminal investigation. Now I can't find it.

I don't really know which way I'm leaning on this, it's a hard case to follow. For what it's worth, I don't believe either of Dylan's parents OR his step dad are involved in any way. I know that in some cases it turns out to be parent, but I will never go down that line of thinking until it's proven or I have hard evidence to suggest this is the case. I don't ever like thinking that a parent is capable of killing their child, and having not lost a child myself, I'm in no way to judge how others would react to this.

At the moment I'm thinking more along the lines of abduction (most likely from the road), or a tragic accident on the way to meet up with his friends. I believe abduction is more likely, because I don't see how he could have strayed so far away that he's not been found in any of the searches (it's possible, but not highly likely). I have two possible scenarios in my head, I keep alternating between the two. Both would explain there being no signs of struggle in the house.

1. Dylan leaves the house to meet up with his friends, and hitches a ride with the wrong person.
2. Dylan is at the home waiting for his dad to get back so he can drive him to meet with his friends, but instead someone familiar to Dylan shows up (possibly looking for MR, not necessarily knowing that Dylan was in town or that MR would be out) and takes advantage of the situation, as no one but Dylan would know that they had swung by the house.

If Dylan's phone had died the night before, and he had plugged it in not realizing it wasn't switched on at the wall or connected to the charger properly (as I'm sure we've all done before), it would account for no phone activity after 8pm. He already had plans to meet with his friends, so he might have just thought he'd meet them out there, but sadly never made it. It's been established that his friends were too far away for him to walk there, so he obviously needed a way to get to them.

I'd not thought of the hunting possibility until I saw you talking about it just now, I also think this could be an option. If Dylan had been fatally injured in an accident like this, it's possible whoever hurt him tried to cover it up out of fear.

These are all options that posters here have already discussed, but with no new information all we can do is speculate on what little facts have been released.

I just hope that Dylan is found safe. Until (and IF) the little red Found Deceased tag is added to the title of this thread, I will not give up hope.
