“We have the clothes,” Bender said Monday. “We don’t need them here (at the reservoir), but can use them later.”

THat ^^^^ is not a quote from Sgt. Bender?

Who said that then?

That is per DAN, but the "None of Dylan’s belongings that could carry his scent was available in the first days of the investigation. But the family had articles of the boy’s clothing delivered on the weekend." is NOT a quote per DAN as you said upthread

It's just some reporter's statement, IMO. Nothing is in quotes. It's what he was told by ER, IMO since she surmised/supposed/inferred there was nothing to scent on and was asked to bring clothes. I'm not blaming her for thinking that, but I still go back to the La Plata SAR with bloodhounds searching on the evening of the 19th and into the 20th... that those bh were just wandering around sniffing. Makes NO sense, to me. Each to their own.

I've been working on one of my outlines, and was considering posting it here. As usual, it's a long thing, and I don't want to waste the space here unless people are interested. Does anyone want it posted? TIA

Yes, please do!

That article had no source. IMO.

ER has said that, but YET AGAIN what were the bloodhounds doing the night of Nov. 19th and into Nov. 20th.

La Plata County Search and Rescue members searched for Redwine Monday night in areas of County Road 500.

Added by me ... Monday night is Nov. 19th.

here too:

Members of La Plata County Search & Rescue team using bloodhounds searched for the teen Monday night and Tuesday. The search area included the shoreline around Vallecito Lake, several small subdivisions, county roads, steep wooded hillsides and hiking trails. Many of the homes in the area are seasonal while some are occupied year around.

Beats me. I guess they were just wandering around sniffing "stuff". :banghead:

TY for this, Ransom.

Here's what I'm thinking: the clothes that were reportedly left on the sofa were probably the scent items used by the bloodhounds during those initial searches on Monday & Tuesday. It could be that the bloodhounds didn't alert on anything because the clothing may have been contaminated by other skin rafts (cells) due to being on the sofa.

Sarx or Oriah could answer this much better than me, since they're our verified experts, but I have no doubt that the bloodhounds would not have been taken out without a scent from a scent article to follow - there would be no point - right? IMO, it's possible the dogs may have not had a pure scent to track.

What you do is normal for you. What I do is normal for me. BUT "normal" is really only a setting on the dryer.... quote by Patsy Clairmont (author)

I love that quote!! And thank you for posting it, because it's absolutely correct. There is no normal when it comes to the human race.

So you don't believe Dylan's mom when she says the Search Teams needed scent items?

I highly doubt she would be mistaken about something so important in her son's missing person case.

Someone must have asked her to get those scent items or she wouldn't have bothered, imo/

Why would Sergeant Bender have said what was QUOTED above, if they already had the necessary items?

  • #867
It is IMPLIED because of the previous sentences in the paragraph. Are you saying the Channel 7 News reporter made it all up?

The reporter interviewed ER, who said she brought clothes for the scent dogs, who didnt have any yet. And in the NEXT SENTENCE, she QUOTES the sgt, who discusses the clothing, and it's possible use later on. And you are saying what exactly?---that ER is lying about the need for the scent items?

If I understand Ransom's thinking, LE has never come out and directly stated that there were no items with Dylan's scent in MR's home. ER's statement implies that there weren't, but it wasn't been explicity stated by LE - at least not in that particular article.

In other words, Bender's statement neither confirms nor denies what ER said about Dylan's clothing. Bender merely said that they had his clothing but didn't need it at the time.

IMO

If the clothes were washed they wouldn't be good for tracking dogs.
They might have used tracking dogs, but clearly dogs didn't find Dylan.
So I am not sure what scent they were tracking.

Well then the reporter lied and made up and reported false information. Why would they do that on Channel 7? And why would Dylans mom say that if it wasnt true? And why would she have someone travel 12 hours there and back to retrieve those scent items if they werent necessary.

THE REPORTER, in a mainstream news article SAID EXPLICITLY there were NO SCENT ITEMS AVAILABLE in the first days of the case.

Why are we discounting this professional news reporter when the quote from the detective clearly confirms the statement?

I had to look it up. lol. I had a flip phone and I must say how someone "texts all the time" with that phone is beyond me. lol, but I'm not 13 and could care less about texting even with my iPhone and everyone that knows me ... YOU better not text me. I do not text ... it's rather rude, IMO. If you want to talk to me .. call me ... otherwise, pfffffft. :snooty: lol

We have flip phones. My husband had to show me tonight how to do the smiling emoticons or the frowning ones, I had no idea! I would call it a frown, though... not a scowl.
My son texts way more than he talks, he's just not much of a talker. I have been known to text my husband if he's outside in his shop. Once when he was in the back of the house, I texted him to tell him supper was ready.

Same thought I have. No bloodhound(s) search as much area as they did per La Plata SAR and links I provided to the evening of the 19th and 20th without anything to scent on. Did they want mom to bring more/others ... sure. Glad she did.

Well, there is no video of him after he went missing, is there? He could be wearing completely different clothing now. Assuming he is out somewhere walking around.

No video after, that I know of/read about.

I'm going to try to write this with as much fact and as little opinion as possible. It's hard for me to focus when I read a jumble mix of ideas, etc. (not any person's posts, just the beliefs jumping from post to post because different posters have different ideas.) I usually try to make up a basic outline for every case I follow, but it's been too hard keeping up on this one! I decided to use my “vacation” to try to get one done, and maybe I'll be able to think clearly enough to eventually come up with something useful.

What We Know - Things That have Been Verified

1. Dylan boarded a plane at some point on Sunday afternoon in Colorado Springs.
2. The plane arrived an hour late in Durango at approximately 6:00pm on Sunday

What Could Have Happened To Dylan?

1. Accidental injury/death in wilds
2. Drowning
3. Kidnap – stranger

I've never, once, ever called ER a liar. Not once. She was asked to bring clothes and THEN says "because there was nothing to scent on" (paraphrasing to be clear). I do question where she got that from, because Dan Bender has never said that to the press. IMO. Just like you "implied" the word NOW when it was not in the quote.

I don't know if she was told that or not, but I know she did say recently that she didn't know any clothes had been left at MR's house.

I've wondered the same thing...dogs just sniffing around in circles??

But to me the bigger question is - with the clothes brought in, did the dogs pick up Dylan's scent AT ALL at his dad's and where did they go???

  • #879
Regarding the clothes unavailable for the scent dogs from MR early on. I'm trying to find the article, but IIRC, MR stated DR left shirt or clothes and blanket on sofa when he allegedly left on Monday morning while Dad was running errands. If these items were laying on the couch (Dad's couch), perhaps just that alone made them unusable for scent. It's also possible Dad had a piece or two of his own clothing slung across the same couch. I don't see it as a red flag or that Dad didn't want to provide a piece of DR's clothing for scent. It could just simply be that they were not acceptable for scent purposes because of "cross contamination" (my words here). MOO

I'll still try to find the article.
