I had really hoped they would find some evidence, at least of the phone, yesterday. But the terrain out there is so rugged and dense. And a tossed item out the window of a vehicle, especially something with some weight to it such as a cell phone, really would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. And there appear to be so many desolute roads and laneways that run off that highway. There is no way they can all be checked. I hope all the people in the area are more vigilant when driving around those roads and check their own property thoroughly now that there has been such a large and obvious search of the area.
So we have MR going to Bayfield in the late afternoon/early evening on the Monday? When does it start getting dark there? I think it may be time to check the route between Vallecito and Bayfield...at least for possible evidence and missing items like a backpack.
It is interesting to me that MR first suggested the possibility that Dylan might have tried to make his way to Bayfield and then we later heard of the missing fishing pole and the Lake area was focused on. Which is odd because as someone has already pointed out, there seems to be a very large stream/river right across the street from where MR lives. Is there no access anywhere close where a young kid could go there and throw in a fishing rod? And there is likely no way that someone local did not travel the road between MR's home and the lake in the 45 minute span it would have taken Dylan to get to the lake and to have noticed a young boy walking along in shorts and a t-shirt on a cold morning and carrying a fishing pole. Or maybe someone did...and they offered him a lift?
But if someone did offer a ride to Dylan, whether he was out walking or hitching on the road or whether it was someone who knew that Dylan was there at the house alone, it still would be prudent to check the Vallecito to Bayfield route. I just wish they had decided to do these searches much earlier. And call in TES for assistance!
