I just don't have a good feeling about LE's work in this case. I so wish I did.

Red by me: escape from WHAT? That is a very odd statement IMO. Sorry if this has been discussed a lot already, I'm still catching up.

I understood it to mean escape from abductor.

LE has given us such a small amount of information, which hopefully means they are trying to maintain the integrity of any future criminal case.

I really think LE has a pretty good idea of what happened. Unfortunately, I imagine whatever evidence they have is circumstantial. Hopefully they are able to put it all together and make an arrest.

I do think something will happen soon. (crossing my fingers)

I agree on the bbm and I'd like to point out that on the day the search warrant was executed on dad's house/trucks/property:

“The investigation of Dylan’s disappearance is ongoing,” Bender said. “We won’t be revealing any list of what we find until it’s over.”

Frustrating as their silence has been, when I re-read that I believe they're sticking to that policy on this case and we're gonna be running in the same circles speculating until this is "over", one way or the other.

:please:

Again, I was respoinding to the theory that Mark had some kind of motive to kill his son. Yes, I did mention the possibility of losing his temper and threw out the fact that not all abusive husbands will abuse their children. I know there are hundreds who do, but probably thousands more who don't.
And we don't know for a fact that Dylan was unhappy to be visiting his dad, that's also speculation. Maybe he was, so is that why he is missing?
I just hope he is found.... I'm not saying yay or nay where Dad is concerned.

We got a storm blowing in here, I may have to unplug computer. Sorry... thanks for your reply though.

I didn't intend for my comment to be taken as contrary to yours, except that I don't think a lack of physical violence against a child indicates that a parent won't later harm them. I agree with you that there really doesn't seem to be a huge benefit to MR to harm his son, in a long-term sense. Except maybe to reduce child support, as has been discussed.
I recognize that the info about Dylan texting his mom a "scowling face" might be her own interpretation of his text, but I assumed that LE had already seen her phone and confirmed this. Also, his aunt (according to Jan's timeline) claims that Dylan was very unhappy about visiting his dad. I feel it's safe to take that at face value, at this point.
In any case, thank you for the response. Hope you stay safe in the storm.

Darn it. I was hoping iphones were immune to that, because my daughter has managed to kill smartphones, dumbphones, and every kind of phone due to excessive use - including excessive use of the charger.

iPhones are not immune. I'm on number 7 (I think) and my teen is on his 4th. My total does not include upgrading from 3 -> 4-> 4s -> 5.

Oh thank you Vasportsmom...

I was totally kidding...I was reading behind y'all.. So when I posted I thought it was timely levity... But when I caught up... I found it was embarrassingly not! :blushing:

(I have done this so many times... Seems I would learn... Doesn't it? :clown:)

No, no, no I knew you were joking but TxJan kicked butt on that and I will take any opportunity to share it, lol.

OT: Everybody I knew who had IPhones kept trying to get me to switch over from my trusty Blackberry (I only had to replace it once in 3 years). I swear they were like a cult! Then I finally got an Iphone this year, got addicted to it 3 months in, and now it doesn't want to behave. It's all a trap orchestrated by Apple, I swear!

But...but...these very threads convinced me to trade in my beautiful violet blackberry for a plain white iphone 5...*cries*

*runs to ask Siri if it's ok*

I understand that. I am asking about data already collected. There is no way to interpret unsolved cases, but we can establish some norms via solved cases.

I understand what you are saying. It is just that with hundreds of thousands of teens going missing every year, not all of them are ever even looked at as potential victims of familial child abuse. I bet they don't search all of the homes or intensely interrogate all of the family members either. Some are probably barely investigated. jmo I think it would be easy to just wait a couple of days and then go fill out a missing persons report on a teen, and say they left with their backpack early one morning. Unless there were some witnesses to say otherwise, LE probably wouldnt blink an eye.

My number one question to LE, 'why won't you let TES help? And secondly why no press conferences?. Finally third- why the seemingly contradictory statements to the press? The three reasons I'm having some doubts about LE.
Just my own opinion.

Since Dad is not been ruled out, perhaps LE wanted him on the search. They knew they could watch his movements and behavior and that he would not be left alone to wander. If they did not want him to search, they could have easily prevented it happening.

If they wanted to watch him, it would have been easier to do back at the search HQ - they could ask him (and ER) to be around in case they found something and wanted verification that it belonged to Dylan or not. IMHO of course.

I too am less than confident about LE in this case; they are saying too little, but what they do say seems to be confusing (no one on the loose abducting children yet this could be an abduction, for example.) And they waited so long (10 days?) to do the thorough search of the home, yet stated that by day two they felt this was a criminal investigation-that especially bothers me greatly.

Not disagreeing with you here, you make some good points, but how can you be "pretty sure" he left home with a full battery? How can you be sure his mother would have made sure he had charged it? And how can you be sure he would have thought to put it on the charger before he went to sleep? 13 y.o.'s are often not the most responsible people.

We all forget things sometimes. I've left for a trip and got halfway there only to remember I didn't take my curling iron, or something else. Stuff happens.

As to flip phones being able to hold a charge for a long time, what's a long time? I've had two... the first one would hold a charge for two days or more. This one will start going down within 12 hours of when I charged it, even when I haven't used it much. And I found out recently that with some phones, if you overcharge them, the battery goes down faster. Don't ask me why, I have no idea.

Yes, the phone not being used is troublesome. But maybe he was so tired, he fell asleep and forgot to put it on the charger, or he didn't feel like digging around in his backpack for it. We just don't know.

The point is, we can't assume facts that are not in evidence, as they say in court.

The reason I say I am pretty sure the cell was charged is because of his mom. If you are going to send your 12 yr old ALONE on a plane trip, wouldnt you make sure his cell was fully charged? I say that because I used to send my kids to see their grandparents and they traveled alone. And I ALWAYS made sure my sons cell was fully charged and ready to go.

One memorable time I put my 8 and 12 yr old kids on a plane at LAX, flying to Reno, and I watched it take off into the air. Then I started my drive home. 20 minutes later my son called to say that the plane doubled back and landed and unloaded because of mechanical problems. I am glad he had his cell charged up, lol.

And sure, maybe he didnt charge it if it was dead. But if he wanted to use it the next morning, all he had to do was plug it into the charger and it would work fine.

And given that we know she was uncomfortable with Dylan going to spend time with his dad, even more reason she would want to make sure his cell was working when he left.

That's an interesting point. LE could even tell MR that they "think" searchers found something important, such as the phone or backpack, to judge his reactions or get him to break, so to speak. (similar to what FLE did to CA when it was announced that Caylee's remains were found.)
