IMO ..it's a strange thing to say she was going to buy him a new one for Christmas ... Unless she is convinced he is dead and she won't be buying him anything fir Christmas..
Why did she even bring up that fact anyway unless there was something wrong with the phone and she was aware of it?

Maybe he had another one in his backpack just like that description?
And take along the "old" phone, too, but use the cheap phone as a backup? IDK. That would mean someone entered the house soon after MR left Monday a.m. and kidnapped Dylan before he could use the "reserve" phone to call his friend. But, why didn't he use the reserve phone Sunday night after his "old" phone died?

I thought something was said about this, somewhere, but I think it turned out to be unconfirmed speculation. I looked through the awesome timeline that has been done and I didn't see it mentioned there.

Yes.... this would be very good information to have. I would also like to know about the landline at MR's house and what articles of clothing were there.

Please see my post below #276 this may be what you are remembering, but there is a link.

I am as sure as I can be in that tracking dogs didn't follow Dylan's scent to the lake. It was just inaccurate reporting. It wasn't a quote from a police or anybody else, just a narrative of some article.

And people were commenting about the fact that she originally said "I was going to buy him one for Christmas". I think first time for past tense. But, I could be wrong and whether it was the first time or not. jmo

Why is it strange? Parents buy their children presents for Christmas. Is that strange now?

It's all relative. To someone of an older generation, doing something "constantly" may just mean "often", just like "tech saavy" could mean "they know how to turn on the computer and play games on their Xbox."

ER is not that old is she? Besides she is employed at a decent sized college so I imagine she has a pretty good grasp on what "tech saavy" entails.

Constantly could vary a lot though. My 17yo has never had less than 30k texts a month and his phone is constantly glued to his hand. My 12yo has never had 50 texts on a single bill.

Once again just posting what I read, and it was linked. So, I don't know. But, why do you think it was inaccurate reporting. Why do you think they went to the lake? What led them there? I have not heard that reported. This report is the only thing that comes close to explaining why they were there. jmo

He probably wanted a "smart" phone or whatever they are called, lol, if all his friends have them. It is all about upgrading these days, apparently.

They went to the lake because father told them fishing pole was missing, IMO. As to why I think it was not accurate? Because LE never actually said dogs tracked him to this lake. The lake is not close to the house, so it would be quite a feat for dogs to track him to the lake.

I understand what you mean, and I'm not sure she is that old (40s?) I still think it's a relative term though. If you work with a lot of technology, your definition of "tech saavy" is going to be very different than someone who works in the financial aid office of a college. I think that is only natural.

Probably way off base, but I was wondering if DR texts and talks on his cell phone when he is busy with his friends. I know ER said he texted all the time, but that would be while he was most likely at home away from his friends.

While this explains nothing, thought I would include the scenario because DR may not have texted and talked on his phone ALL THE TIME (emphasis only, not yelling). Hanging out with one's parent(s) at 13 is usually the last thing a kid wants to do. MOO.

Here in the Silicon Valley, people are constantly on their smartphones for everything from checking the Internet, emails, texts, playing games, etc. I realize tech-savvy may mean different things in other parts of the country, as the Bay Area is pretty much the capital of technology (the industry I have worked in for the past 20-plus years).

I think that looking through this article may help you see that MR's statements aren't quite as suspicious as people seem to think.

Tell-Tale Signs of Deception

Very interesting. Especially the part where he added inconsequential details and the use of past tense, as well as his verbage and balance of before, during and after.

No, about the time she spoke out about MR, she made a statement that was something like "he was just 13 and learning so many new things".

If ER really thought the phone was on it's last leg (just a metaphor), wouldn't she have bought Dylan a new phone before his trip? Even if she wanted to buy him a really nice phone but wait until Xmas to give it to him, why wouldn't she buy him a cheap phone just to take on the trip? At least she'd know he had one that was working. IMO, if ER really believed the phone was about to die, she wouldn't have sent it with Dylan on the trip. She would've gotten him a disposable phone to use that week. IMO

Yup a burner phone, just so she could keep in contact with him.

What do people think she meant by this ("learning so many new things")? That seems like an odd way to describe a child. I haven't heard much about Dylan being the bookworm type who would make school a central part of his life.

Then why did they wait so long to search the lake, almost a week, when dad told them the first day the fishing rod was missing? tia

<modsnip>.

IMO <modsnip> she must think Dylan will not be home for Christmas since she just told the world what she WAS going to get him.

Here is the actual quote if it helps

“He was just 13, learning so many things,” she said in an interview with the Durango Herald. “He had just moved into an environment which he really loved.”

I am sure by constantly she meant frequently. He texted friends, he was active in on-line accounts. When he showed up on Sunday, and father told him it was too late to go see friends, he let them know that he was going to see them on Monday instead.
And yet on Monday, after he missed his ride with his father, he didn't contact friends to at least let them know he was going to be late.

She said that he always sent a text to tell her where he had landed for the night, and he'd text her in the morning if he was up too late or didn't text the night before for some reason. If that is true, then why hadn't she called to check on him when she still hadn't heard from him after 4:30 pm? If he was constantly texting with his friends, why weren't they concerned about him Sunday night and why didn't they say they were concerned when he didn't text them that morning? Maybe he didn't text as much as she thought/said.

It's all relative. To someone of an older generation, doing something "constantly" may just mean "often", just like "tech saavy" could mean "they know how to turn on the computer and play games on their Xbox."
I have a friend who always said that to her someone was tech savvy if they knew how to set the clock on her vcr. We're almost to the point now where kids would say, "What's a vcr?"

And people were commenting about the fact that she originally said "I was going to buy him one for Christmas". I think first time for past tense. But, I could be wrong and whether it was the first time or not. jmo
She used past tense one of the first times she spoke to the press.

I don't think she knows what being tech savvy entails, or she wouldn't equate it to constantly sending texts or playing games on the computer.
