Ok Ransom I will like to agree to disagree and move on. I will not post about this again since you and I seem to disagree.

Knock off the snark. Use the ignore feature if you don't want to read other posters opinions. Live and let live.

Is it common for the NA's in that area to socialize with the locals or do they tend to stick with their own?

They do both when off the reservation

They are part of the community, and if any of them might of seen anything they may not know to report it is what I was getting at.

I appreciate your point. IMO there are always individuals who may be less aware of what's happening in the community for one reason or another. I'm not referring to the NA community, before I get attacked, btw. Several of my elderly neighbors don't have TV's or cable or if they do, don't watch or only get once-weekly newspapers. I don't think it's unrealistic to think some folks could be unaware of this story if they live a quiet life to themselves. And I doubt the FBI /authorities have contacted every residence in the Bayfield/Durango area.
Thanks for bringing a new idea to the discussion.

What is the proximity of the nearest reservation to Vallecito Lake and/or MR's home?

  • #267
Some may as one of our friends that lives on a local res, has a home with no electricity(means no TV and no radio).

IMO That sounds like a lifestyle choice in 2012 - I know of people who have chosen similar in order to simplify their life or reduce their footprint. It doesn't mean they lose contact with the outside world (slightly mad hermits excluded!)
Brrr how would you survive a mountain winter without electricity? Rely on wood fires? A genuine question from here in the tropics :)

OT kinda Saw Dylan's poster up in the Kmart store in Farmington NM today, glad to see, but wished it wasn't needed.

Just wondering...does anyone really believe that LE has any idea what became of Dylan and who is responsible, at least to any significant degree?

Yes. I believe LE has an idea of what became of Dylan and who is responsible, to a significant degree. I also think an arrest will be made in the case.

So according to Google map, it appears that the nearest reservation, Ignacio, is about 24.8 total miles from Vallecito or County Road 501 (1 hour 1 minute).

Broken down: From Vallecito to Bayfield, it's 12.9 miles (33 minutes) and then from Bayfield to Ignacio it is another 11.9 miles (28 minutes).

It's not nearly as close as I imagined it was.

the same way people survived before electricity was invented. fires furs and being active.

I know some people here in Australia who have no electricity, one family live 15 mins from a fair sized country town, others live in the outback. for some its a choice for others its a lifestyle choice.

The thing about Ignacio is it to is a small town, and the people there travel to Durango area all the time.

it seems a similar distance as Durango airport to Vallecito lake, worth considering IMO

I live 45min to an hour from Durango, but travel there to shop, and have doctor visits in Durango, have considered an eye doctor that was located in Bayfield. The people in this area often travel for different reasons, and the two larger towns in the area are Durango and Farmington.

I had to add Durango to my google map to see where everything is situated - I'm a visual person.... So do all NA's live in Ignacio or is there other areas they live off the res? Just curious - that's all.... trying to understand the area...

I gave you the map of the Ute's land. They live on their land.... what's left of it.
