Smoking gun ? Is a term used in the US for something like
absolute proof. If you went to a crime scene and someone
is standing there with a literal smoking gun in their hand
and a dead person witha bullet hole in front of them, then
you can assume they shot and killed that person. So it's
come to be known as absolute proof that someone is
guilty . So in this case for instance, if they found dylans'
cell phone smashed into pieces hidden under MR's mattress,
or they found the cell and it had texts saying ' help me '
it would be known as a ' smoking gun' or close to it .

It means that the proof is so clear that you can't deny. It's an expression used when a crime happens. "Smoking gun" = the gun used in the murder is still hot and in your hands.

That one piece of evidence which proves a case. :cop:

Thank you , I don't think I have heard this expression in the u,k and it was confusing me .

I thought they were going to play baseball.
Was that a guess or was it reported somewhere ?

LOL Nooooooo. Someone said "Bayfield and someone else thought they said "Ballfield" and this whole thing got started that they were going to play baseball at a ballfield. Sort of like that game Telephone where you start out with one sentence, and whisper it to the next person all the way down the line and when it gets to the end it's something completely different. We use to play it as kids.

They spent a lot of time searching the lake at the beginning. And MR criticized LE for not searching the lake sooner, because he told them from day one the fishing pole was missing. So he seemed to be implying that his son would be found there, imo.

I think this whole thing is the key.

I'll say one thing, if one of my kids made plans with their friends for 6:30 am, they are on their own, I am not getting up to take them anywhere at 6:30 am and I don't care how set in stone those plans were.

As far as batteries: I have 4 grandchildren who will sit and vigorously play on their DS's and not pay attention to battery life. All of a sudden one will die and then I'll have 4 grandkids with 3 DS's and we have an emergency situation until that other one is charged. Kids do not pay attention to battery life of their electronics.

Was MR not already heading that way that morning anyway for his errands .

But then one would think that Dylan would of charged it , and it was taking the charges at Elaine's house or I'm sure he would of said something .

It's all a bit coincidental his phone packs up on the day a random perp snatches him .

IMHO

But what if you had to leave the house at 7:30 am anyway? And your kid wanted a ride somewhere the night before, but you negotiated with them, and said ' not tonight.' But I do have to go out tomorrow early, so I will take you then'? Does that sound like more of a possibility for you?

Well now you can start using it and folks will think
you're a genius........unless you tell them it came
from the us. :)

I'm just wondering why Dylan would go on a mini fishing trip when he was in a hurry to get to his friends? I'm not buying that story. I think he is in the lake, but was put there....that night. I'm really hoping I am wrong.

I agree. and that it was Sunday night as well.

That's what I'm thinking. MR needed to be up so early for errands that he didn't want to stay up/ out the extra hour or more to drive it the night before but said ' dont worry , we'll be up bright and early and you 'll get the WHOLE day ' .

I keep trying to make sense of that and I can't. The only time I can ever recall answering the door clutching a pillow is shortly after my hysterectomy when I couldn't get up w/o clutching a pillow to my incision.

Mark lives in a remote area and didn't he hire a lawyer to protect his back?
I think he is afraid to answer the door because he thinks someone might want to shoot him or stab him, so if he has a thick pillow in front of him, he can deflect blows to his body.

My first thought is, unlikely, but then I think about the recent case of the little Cleary brothers. Abducted by their father - they were found alive in a Texas motel thanks to someone seeing their Mother's appeal on CNN. I think it is imperative that the word is spread quickly when these things happen.

...:

If you believe the child is alive, then it's a very different search, IMO. You want to show the child's photo to the media every chance you get.
And if you are asked to address your child, you tell the child to call you any chance the child got (which is what the mother of two boys found in TX did).
Have we heard anything like that in Dylan's case? MR was asked to address Dylan in an interview. And what did he say? After a short sentence, he went into past tense.

I think DR was supposed to have been found right away. That would have been the goal, if the motive was to have a family tragedy (boy falls in lake and drowns) unite everyone.
but then I think, if it was for revenge or jealousy, maybe he wasn't supposed to be found, and the lake/fishing pole was an alibi of sorts.

yes, and then when told he could use the interview as a platform for whatever message he wanted to get out, his message was - take the focus off me.

If he is found in the lake it was be interesting to know:

A. If he drowned
B. If there is a fishing pole
C. If the backback & phone is there

Why not ask Dylan to be strong, to hang in there, to call either mother or father any chance he got? The mother of two missing boys was asking them to call her. Somebody saw that on CNN and contacted LE.
And I don't think we had anything like that in Dylan's case.

This is the only thing that baffles me. Why would MR (if he placed him there) lead LE to the lake? Wouldn't the dogs have picked up MR's scent there? I'm sure that avenue was addressed.

There are so many little roads and drop-offs into rivers - one would not have to travel far off Florida Road and not for very long.

That is what I was wondering. What if they got into an argument over the excessive cell phone use? (very understandable, especially if dad had built this visit up in his mind) What if dad just pulled over and threw the phone into a river, and Dylan, being a kid, and not thinking correctly, jumped in after it? Dad could have tried to find him, he could have gone in after him, but lost him. It could all have been just a few tragic minutes, and then...dad can't bring himself to call the police...maybe he'd been drinking, or he's just freaking out.

*IF* dad did have anything to do with Dylan's disappearance, I'd so much rather it be just a sad accident...
