I so agree. I've been told the same thing, but it's one of those things when your kids are missing. I can't imagine not agreeing to whatever they wanted.
I also have been told by a very good defense attorney to never agree to a polygraph. I asked him, "So what if you know 100% you are innocent, and taking and passing the poly could get LE off your back?" His answer was that in that case, you hire your own reputable polygraph examiner and take the test without LE's knowledge. If you pass clean and clear, you take the results to LE yourself. If you had a good examiner, they will probably accept it flat out. Or they may ask you to take another at that time, and if you passed the first, you should pass the second. But if you don't pass the test you pay for, you never mention it to LE or agree to take theirs.
He says far too many innocent people fail tests (and many guilty ones can pass) and so you want to know in advance how you will do.
