Me too. I thought that's the name R called his grandmother by.

I don't know for sure, I just know it's a very common nic-name for the associated full name. I do believe I've seen that name as part of that friend circle, though.

I get on here to learn, to understand, to gain insight. What i learned tonight by talking with family is that my memories aren't necessarily correct, i have flawed. I think sometimes we forget or minimise things that are really painful to remember because if we remembered them accurately it would overload our emotions

Our brains try to protect us to some degree. Memories fade in hopes of forgetting horrible things, at least that has been my experience in life.

It's funny as I thought nando was a fast food place . We have loads of nando's over here and assumed they had branched out and the boys were inviting him to lunch .

yes I thought it was a fairly logical thing to assume too since Nandos operate on 5 continents and in 30 countries, USA being one of those countries.

Like my oldest grandson could not say Grandpa when he was little so my husband because Papa instead, it was easier for him to say. A friend of mine is called Gampi because his grandson couldn't say Grandpa.

I didn't consider that "Nando" could be R's grandmother.

My grandpa calls my grandma his "Honey" (seriously, they're the cutest couple ever) and when my cousin and I were little, we were confused about why Grandpa called Grandma "Honzee" all the time. Everyone calls her that now, and my cousin and I are long since grown up.

I have never heard of Nandos and I have lived in 11 US states and a few other countries. Funny how we were all thinking something different. At first I thought grandmother...then at some point I saw a reference to a friend and assumed last name or nick name.

I was curious so I looked it up and they only have 8 in the US all around DC and the surrounding area/states....according to Wikipedia. Not that it matters I was just curious.

I posted this yesterday. The text that said 'come to nandos' was Monday not Sunday. Dylan had a friend named Fernando, so I assumed that's who R was talking about.

That's it exactly. <modsnip> R's grandma had already been shortened in text to 'gma' so Nando is obviously someone different. In another interview (maybe 'A Boy's Life' from the Durango Herald? or something around that time?) it spells out that R was headed to a friend's from his gma's and wanted Dylan to know where to find them.

Exactly. Which is why I felt R wasn't too terribly concerned when Dylan didn't show up at 6:30 that morning, so at 10:00 when he went to Nandos, he let Dylan know that's where they all were.

All in all, much appreciated and no complaints- I've just been curious.

The one Elaine wrote seems very abbreviated-- as we are, trying to share facts, not what might have happened or could have happened. Extremely restrained but better to reach a wider audience who might come to the website to help/send money/get the quick story etc. The quick story can be summed up as we have here recently: Dylan flew to La Plata County, went to Wal Mart and disappeared. The fact that her timeline tries to get beyond these basic facts is impressive.

The Daily Mail is not exactly a bastion of accurate reporting. It's a tabloid and as such likes a good bit of scaremongering (usually about immigrants, public sector workers or health), with "Daily Mail readers" seen as a bit of an insult. They are very good at campaigning on issues, and if they feel like it, can turn out very good investigative reporting, but mainly it's just lazy. They get great photos in the online paper though!

All the tabloids are the same to be honest, but the Mail has more pretensions to being a "serious" paper which some thinks makes it more "dangerous".

Right. But when he woke up (if he indeed fell back asleep) he didn't text again until he got ready and went to or was heading to N's. JMO
