What if the text is something that LE does not want the perp to know about? Evidence that LE has that they just want to sit on right now?

My granddaughter has an iPod I can text to. It has a phone number. I have a hotspot, it has a phone number assigned to it, even though you cannot call to either one of these devices.

Is there any way LE could have looked up the phone number associated with the iPod to find out about this text???

We do not know if they iPod was Dylan's or Mark's.
I'm sure LE knows exactly where Mark was that night and the next morning based on his cell pings unless he didn't have it with him, which I'm sure he did so he can meet up with Dylan at the airport, or he turned it off or pulled out the battery because he had plans.

Everything is speculation. Nothing is fact in all these scenerios on this case.

Most of what LE has given us is open to interpretation based on what your gut feeling is. JMO

I don't think he's allowed to have a sad state of mind because his son is missing. Not from anything I've seen or read. JMO

If that were the case, why would they even mention it? It sounds more like something they do want him/her to know about, but not anyone else. MOO

I think LE is holding back lots of information they have because it's important to the investigation. They use this as a tool when interviewing people to see if someone knows something that they haven't released to the public. JMO

My oldest had an iTouch a few years ago, and yes the text app assigned a phone number to him. However, my youngest son got an itouch for Christmas this year, and all he needs is an email address to text (and an internet connection of course).

Once upon a time, I worked in computers and was up on all the new technology. Then I had kids and was only up on the latest Wiggles and Blue's Clues news. I know things have changed.

Yeah... I think it works the same way with "texting" on an Ipad now.. I can do it with just an e-mail. Who knows how old Dylan's Ipod was.

I wonder if Dylan had a debit card (some teens have a debit card for either their parent's checking account, or their own checking account that their parents monitor), or if he was given cash by Mom to pay for things. I am just wondering if he could have purchased anything throughout the day on Sunday-- for example after he went through security at the CS airport, before boarding his flight. Of course anything purchased via debit card, Elaine/LE could track.

It is unlikely anything he purchased would have been significant. I'm just trying to cover all our bases.

I still have to wonder if Dylan knew someone else on the plane or if he really traveled alone.

My son just text me back and said there is not a bill that comes with the iPod number my granddaughter texts with. It's part of an app. He also doesn't know if there is a log or monitoring capability that goes with it. Just FYI

Just throwing something out there. We don't know if there were other devices available to him. We don't know if it was an iTouch. We don't know if MR's laptop was password protected and not an obvious way for Dylan to text.

You know what, your absolutely right. We don't know for sure what was available for Dylan to use.

Well, IMO, it wasn't an iTouch. For one, they are actually more expensive than a smartphone so I don't see the reasoning he would have that and not a smartphone. MOO

ETA: To clarify, the iTouch is more expensive than a smartphone if you get the smartphone through your service provider.

The iPod Touch is cheaper in the long run than and iPhone or smartphone because of the data usage. I have 4 children, all four have cell phones and iPod Touches. It was much, much cheaper to have both.
