I don't think it's the divorce itself that they are "fighting" about, but the details regarding visitation and change in child support. Since they don't have joint custody anymore because she moved to CS, then they are probably haggling over how much c/s he has to pay. Maybe he can't afford what she's asking.
In Colorado and Arizona, there is no haggling over how much c/s has to be paid by either parent. I believe that is true in many states, but don't know for fact.
There is a formula that is used, taking into consideration many factors (time spent with the child, medical, dental, extra curricular activities, day care, income of each parent)
Courts don't really care if you can afford c/s, you had the child, the child is your obligation so you afford it, everything else is what you can't afford. If income levels drop or increase (each state has it's level of change 2%, 5% whatever) the parent (either giving or receiving c/s) is allowed to have the courts re-visit the order.
