I think we can safely say that no scenario has been "completely eliminated".

Thanks. Has there been any information to confirm that possibility ... hitchhiking? That is, did anyone come forward and say that they'd planned to get together while he was visiting his dad? How likely is it that he would have been a bit bored waiting for his dad so he went out for a bit ... planning to let his dad know where he was when he got there? There seem to be some long deserted stretches of road in the area. Isn't it possible that if he was hitchhiking ... abduction happened?

Where was the location of his last phone ping? Are there any maps of home, cell ping, town where he at one time lived?

Is anyone in the extended family a person of interest?

I believe the electronic device beside the T.V. in the photo is the satellite receiver.

For anyone that gets their T.V. this way you would need separate receivers to allow different individuals to watch different shows at the same time, thus I own 4 of them.

Whitney Houston had a mixture of alcohol and drugs in her system.

Therefore the reason being that if one owns a spark lighter the theory would be that one would be using drugs.

Having said that, although I don't do drugs but yet own one, I must be on drugs. HTH

What is a spark lighter though? I've never heard of that, and I used to smoke. Is it the same as a regular lighter? A long lighter used to light a grill or fireplace?

They are terrific little items.

I use them for lighting the BBQ, my fireplaces, et al.

Am I getting the cases mixed up? Isn't this the case where dad picked up his son for visitation at the airport. The next morning dad went out to run some errands and when he came home, his son was gone? Hadn't son and mom lived in the area a few years earlier ... about 6 miles away (??)? Wasn't it possible that he tried to hitchhike to meet a friend?

Has all of that been discounted, or am I thinking about a different case?

Other than distance ... same case.

Similarly, while some of Dylan's Bayfield friends suggested he might hitchhike down from Vallecito to Bayfield for a scheduled visit with them, Elaine Redwine said she and Dylan had talked about being safe, including not hitchhiking.

The boys said Dylan wasn’t shy about hitching rides.

“Honestly, I think he was walking into Bayfield and got taken away,” he said.

They stayed up late during sleepovers when Dylan was always the hyper one and played hide-and-go-seek for hours after dark. One time during a snowstorm, Dylan was the one to stick out his thumb and hitch the boys a ride home from the library.

Please note ^^^^ DR HOME from Library is over 8 miles.

Mark said he learned from some of Dylan's friends in the wake of the disappearance that his son had been known to hitchhike.

If only we had the answers...

I think most people have ruled out hitchhiking. No one knows the location of the last ping. No one has been named a person of interest although most people have already tried and convicted dad.

No, no information on anything, really.
There was an electronic communication at 9:37pm (according to LE) but no info on sent/received nor from which device.
No official POI yet.

Hello otto long time no see!

According to the maternal side they have dismissed everything that does not involve MR.

If it does not involves MR, it could not possibly of happened.

Thanks. So it's still very possible that he tried to hitchhike to visit friends and that was it. It wouldn't mean that he was upset about anything in his life. He could have simply been visiting friends, hitchhiking and he's probably in a field somewhere.

A runaway! ??? That doesn't seem obvious to me at all. What's obvious to me so far is that he was known to hitch hike. He was at his dad's house for a custodial visit and he had friends in the area ... within hitch hiking distance. One ride in the wrong car and he is not a runaway.

I don't understand why hitch hiking abduction is not a strong possibility.

Underlined by me. I believe the maternal side of the family has their reasons to doubt this is the tip that could break the case. LE says the tip came in over the weekend. Prior to that weekend, this tip was being discussed on social media. All MOO.

Yup, read the entire exchange along with numerous others.

I am of the belief this was not news to LE.

If what has been stated on the maternal side has raised this many red flags for me I would think it has for the Task Force as well.

  • #536
From 12-8-12, LE may have changed their mind about this since that time, but we haven't had any updates from LE about whether this still holds true (i.e. unregistered SO, etc.).

Phippen wanted to reassure residents that the Sheriff’s Office “does not believe there is a sex offender abducting children” from the area.

Dismissed by the maternal side.

I believe that there could be a number of possibilites, and as his friends have stated, it was not unknown for him to do this.

His friends have actually been a wealth of information regarding Dylan.

There are so many crazy theories running around; some more plausible than others. You may be right, Otto. Let's hope not.

Cheers. So is the theory that dad picked son up from the airport, they went home, dad murdered son, dad went shopping, dad came home hours later, son missing so he contacts authorities and ... authorities conclude that either he is a runaway or dad murdered him?
