I see it in a completely different light. I think that it is foolish to allow a personal tragedy to be used as Talking Head Entertainment. No talking head will ever solve a crime, and I've yet to see a talking head properly research a case such that the audience is left with a clear understanding of the facts.
Regarding the father, if he was going to stage the disappearance of his son, why wouldn't he at least stage the backpack at the house to prove that his son actually got there? Why would a father that is finally going to spend some time with his son make him vanish? Is there any factual reason for the father to want to make his son vanish from the face of the earth?

Totally agree with you about the value of the show.
In the Father Did It set of theories, certainly the most talked about one on this forum has been based on what I've bolded in your post.
In the theory, MR, furious at that loss of control over his ex wife and son, intentionally killed Dylan to punish her. To support this, the father is described as cruel, controlling and manipulative and we reviewed several studies and cases over the weekend that use these terms to describe fathers that kill children in custody disputes. It happens A LOT.
Both ex wives, one of whom is an insider on this forum, believe this is possible. Dylan's older brother believes his father has done something. Two older half brothers have no relationship with their father at all, as he chose to extricate himself rather than pay child support.
And speaking of child support, the court allowed the mother to move Dylan to another city last fall, granting her full custody and control and removing the child support order that was in place - an order where the mother was paying child support to the father.
The father was the last person known to be with Dylan and his story of what happened does not make sense to some people. His interviews have been closely scrutinized and some people believe he is lying. I don't want to go into all the details here.
To continue the Father Did It theory, we would want to discuss how he murdered Dylan, when (Sunday night or Monday or possible later after holding him for a while) and where. No evidence has been presented to the media that anything happened at the house, in fact LE hadn't even told the public if Dylan made it to the house.
