Hits 2 separate days, different HRD dogs by the New Mexico SAR team.

Was this a state sar team? NASAR teams? That can make a difference as to how seriously LE takes the "hits".

ETA- So confused as to what NM teams came when, lol. Colorado has lots of good dogs.

So was Dylan a bit spoiled, or was Dylan dealing with a controlling, manipulative, nasty father?

:moo::moo::moo:

That would explain why his 3 adult sons are all estranged from him, IMO.

  • #583
What??? He said in Pagosa...coming. Meaning he was on his way from Pagosa to his Grandma's in Bayfield where Dylan was supposed to go.

MR was not supposed to take Dylan to Pagosa!

I interpreted this also as asking Dylan if he was coming. Wasn't the very next text from Dyan, saying "I can't"? That was how I read it.

The reason someone would shower and dress before going to bed is precisely so they would wake up on time and not be late.
So I have a hard time understanding why Dylan wouldn't have woken up despite MR trying to wake him up for 45 minutes to an hour.

We will have to agree to disagree :)

Parental Alienation comes to mind from all that I have seen.

JMO though

He was in Pagosa coming to Bayfield. Are you suggesting that MR would have had to drive Dylan to Pagosa? Ryan was on his way to his Grandma's in BAYFIELD and that's where Dylan was going.

I don't see in the texts that he says he's on his way to Bayfield. At 8:01pm he said he was gonna be (future) at gma's in the morning at 6:30.

Dylan: can I come over early lkke 6 30 early tomarrow

Ryan: Yeah

Dylan: you better let me in

Ryan: I will

Ryan: im gonna be at my gmas

Thanks Sarx. Early in this investigation, they took 2 cadaver dogs to Lake Vallecito. They alerted an area while in a boat on the lake. Divers were sent in but didn't find anything. It was cold so the divers couldn't stay down there long. They decided to alerts mean nothing. I believe there may have been another alert along the shore, again, it was ignored by the handlers. (This part I might have wrong so I'm sure someone will be happy to correct me.)
I found this article about the early cadaver dog search interesting. Especially Dan Benders comments.
It wasn't clear whether the smell they detected Saturday and again Sunday morning at the south end of the lake had anything to do with the youngster, said La Plata Sheriff's Office spokesman Dan Bender.

"We had two of the dogs alerted on the surface of the lake. It could be a submerged deer or elk or something else," Bender said.
A well trained HRD dog shouldn't alert on a dead deer or elk.

SAR team brought in by LE from New Mexico.

I believe it was this particular SAR team due to the HRD water training.

ETA LE used 2 SAR teams one from New Mexico, the other from La Plata.

From the animals I looked up on the La Plata, I did not see any certified for water. There were some certified from the New Mexico one.

I think that it was an LE team, sarx. Also, I didn't get the impression that the hits were ignored. They sent in divers, but the water was very cold and the divers could only search for 20 minutes at a time and they could only dive 1 time per day. So there were a lot of restrictions on the diving. But... the divers did come up empty handed.

As for the hit on the ground, I'm not sure about that one and don't remember it being reported. Maybe someone could post the link for that?

Thanks,

Salem

ETA: The divers did come back a week or so later and tried again.

Presumably somebody drove him to grandma's in the evening. How else would he end up at grandma's at 6:30 in the morning?

He didn't say what time he was going to Bayfield. He was still in Pagosa at 8:01. Mark and Dylan were already on the road and home by 8:15/8:30.

All the more reason to just go home rather than sit outside R's gma's house in Bayfield waiting for R to show up, or drive all the way to Pagosa only to find R had already left.

Do we have a handy link to that text conversation? I thought it was 6:43 when he said he was on his way from Pagosa. Hoe far is it from there to Bayfield?

Well, if they put divers in the water based on the hits, then they did taken them seriously. On a side note, the dam was my initial focus early on for this case. I remember getting maps for the lake and the various intakes to figure out the currents within the lake.

It would be interesting to know more about the dive operation. 2 days, not down long, how many divers? Recovery diving is incredibly slow and tedious and it is really easy to miss stuff. Did they bring in side scan?

7 divers and I believe they were only down for 20 minutes due to the cold temp and depth of the lake. Then they brought in sonar, but didn't see anything.

One report said they didnt know if it was elk or human. Do the digs know the difference or do the just scent the death (don't know a better way to put it)?

I took the "coming" to be a question to Dylan. Was Dylan coming to Pagosa? Apparently Dylan took it the same way because he said "can't come".

Ryan : (time 6:43 p.m. Nov. 18) Im in pagosa coming

Dylan Redwine: Cant come srry ill hang tommarow

I read it the same way. He wanted Dylan to come to pagosa.

Information he received from the boy's friends suggests that Dylan was hitchhiking when he disappeared, Redwine said.
"It sounds to me like he's not even in the area," he said.
He said he is concerned that a stranger could have picked up the teen and abducted him.

His childhood friends from Bayfield, which is just over 20 miles from the area where Dylan's father lives, suggested an alternative theory that police are also looking into. They believe that Dylan may have tried hitchhiking to go see them in his old hometown, during which he was abducted.

The boys said Dylan wasn’t shy about hitching rides.

“Honestly, I think he was walking into Bayfield and got taken away,” he said.

Wesley agreed.

Similarly, while some of Dylan's Bayfield friends suggested he might hitchhike down from Vallecito to Bayfield for a scheduled visit with them, Elaine Redwine said she and Dylan had talked about being safe, including not hitchhiking.

“It would be uncharacteristic of Dylan to do that,” she said.

One time during a snowstorm, Dylan was the one to stick out his thumb and hitch the boys a ride home from the library.

I believe there were *later* statements from the friends that clarified this, and actually confirmed that DR was not a known hitchhiker (with the exception of the "group hitch" during the snowstorm). Do you have those?

TIA

There are plenty of cases of parents murdering their children because they have utterly consuming rage over losing control of the ex-wife, finances, and children. Plenty of cases. Too many cases.

Statistically very few cases, especially by fathers. But I would agree that even one murder of a child by anyone is too many.

He said IN PAGOSA...COMING. That means he was on his way or would be on his way shortly.

Or he means in pagosa coming?
I'm in Pagosa . Are you coming?
It could be either way. Kids
dont' normally punctuate in texts.
