I really think you'd have to read all of the previous threads*, as well as look at information from MSM, the full length video, the official FB page, and even other pages that we can't discuss here, to even begin to get an understanding of why this may be a possibility -- although I would say perhaps "murder" (at least in the first degree sense) may not be the most likely possibility that one comes up with.

I definitely do not have time to read through 37 threads that have 60 pages ... so if I am coming late to the table, I apologize. I've read parts of the discussion off and on, but this weekend is the first time that I have had time to make the maps that someone requested ages ago.

I took the "coming" to be a question to Dylan. Was Dylan coming to Pagosa? Apparently Dylan took it the same way because he said "can't come".

It was at 6:43 that Ryan said I'm in pagosa coming and Dylan said Can't come. I'm sure they discussed getting together that night earlier in the day as they had reportedly been texting most of the day. Nowhere does this suggest that MR was supposed to take Dylan to Pagosa and never have I heard this before. Then later he let him know he would be at his Gma's in the morning. Why he was at his Gma's is anyone's guess? Maybe his parents were working and so he was spending the night with Gma. Who knows and it really is insignificant IMO. Either way I read Ryan's text at 6:43 as I'm in Pagosa and coming to Bayfield.

My goodness, I hope I didn't make it sound like a million pages! To form one's own opinion, however, it does behoove one to have a basic understanding of what one's discussing, and what has transpired, IMO.

And one can say that "just reading the news stories is more than enough," but we're both still here, eh? ;-) lol!

He didn't say what time he was going to Bayfield. He was still in Pagosa at 8:01. Mark and Dylan were already on the road and home by 8:15/8:30.

All the more reason to just go home rather than sit outside R's gma's house in Bayfield waiting for R to show up, or drive all the way to Pagosa only to find R had already left.

Why would he have to sit outside the Grandma's house?

The scent changes literally at the moment of death (well, really, it can change before too, stress, illness, etc all make for different smells). Again, this is a training issue as new smells different than old if you will, so what and how big of a range you train on will make a difference. There are dogs that can alert on stuff that is fresh as you can get, but not all dogs are going to.

Was this a state sar team? NASAR teams? That can make a difference as to how seriously LE takes the "hits".

ETA- So confused as to what NM teams came when, lol. Colorado has lots of good dogs.

I'm confused by that too. There's a team in La Plata county. Maybe different skill sets?

I found this article dated Nov 28th.

Three canine units belonging to La Plata Search and Rescue returned Wednesday to Vallecito to explore areas adjacent to the reservoir but not along the shore, Bender said.

A dive team from the New Mexico State Police used cadaver dogs, sonar and divers last weekend to explore an area near the reservoir dam that the dogs had signaled as being “hot.” Nothing unusual was found.

The weekend before Nov. 28th would be Sat the 24th and Sun the 25th.

If he was so determined, why didn't he get up during that 45 minutes to an hour MR claims he tried to wake him up? His mother says he has no problems waking up for school.

Maybe he had already made up his mind to hitch hike. If he had to sleep in his clothes to be ready for school, then something doesn't add up with him having no problems getting ready for school in the morning.

I completely agree. The only point that I find unusual is that Dylan was so determined to visit the friend at a grandmother's house at 6:30 AM and, given that he was so determined, I'm more inclined to think that he did decide to get there on his own after his father left to run errands.

Does anyone actually believe that if Dylan had met up with his friend at a grandmother's house that night that they were actually going to stay in and have a sleepover? It sounds to me like a meeting place and that they may have planned to wander around for the evening. Did the grandmother have playstation or xbox ... or anything else that would interest 13 year old boys?

There's really nothing sinister about saying NO to taking him to a friends whether he
thought it was too late or not.
Everyone has their own definition of what is too late and also of what is a far drive.
Folks who do not live in spread out rural areas may not realize how really taxing and
draining it is just to make the trips into town for necessities and to do the things that
have to be done.
People that are early risers go to bed early and that is their schedule.
I have a pretty set in stone routine and schedule and it drives my siblings batty
because they all live in ' cities' near each other and get together for dinners and
gatherings very often that I don't participate in very many of . It's a long drive back
home and I get up really early. So I go to bed early and if I'm not in bed early ( which I haven't been in 3 months now ...arrgghh) then I am at least at home in my pj's settled
in ' for the night' .
For those who say 8 or 9 is " NOT LATE" as if it's in a websters dictionary somewhere of what is early and what is late, I ask you this ... can I call you at 4: 30 am tomorrow morning? What ......is that too 'early' ? There is no early if there is no ' late '. Food for thought !

I understand. This is the first case I've followed from the beginning, and I've sworn it will be my last. It's just difficult to answer "why" some of us lean in a particular direction without referring to things that may have been discussed ten threads back, but if we don't make reference to them, then our logic appears faulty. I guess it's like that with most cases -- I don't know.

Your maps are incredible; thank you for providing them.

If he got up when his dad left, then he had the choice of waiting for 3.5 hours or sticking out his thumb.

I had included a Someone Else Did It Theory that had Dylan, awake but really grumpy and not getting, a father getting frustrated and leaving, and then Dylan realizing h was being left, grabbing his stuff and heading out the door. Too late to catch dad, possibly heading down the road a bit after him, putting himself in sight of an opportunistic abductor. HUGE coincidence that an abductor would be right there, at that time, but it does explain the lack of Monday morning contact and fits with a kid who is trying to get in to town to see his friends.
