I sincerely doubt that. Vallecito doesn't even have a school, so I would say most of their government enterprise is handled by Bayfield or Durango. JMO, though.

Yes- Vallecito is an informal name, not a municipality. All Vallecito addresses are technically in Bayfield.

FWIW I recall hearing it too. I heard it recently on the Dr. Phil promo, but I also thought I read early on (possibly in an interview transcript) that their only communication since 2009 had been via text. I remember thinking it was odd and maybe it was court ordered or something. I would still think a missing child would kind of over-ride the court order (maybe not legally speaking, but I think most judges would understand!). I think it was around the same time he was saying that he wanted to see ER face to face and something about how he didn't want to have dinner with her, just wanted to come together to find Dylan. Sort of gave me the impression at the time of "I'm not using this as an excuse to see ER, we need to work together..."

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I will keep looking for it but wanted to add in the context of where I think I heard/saw it the first time in case it jogs someone else's memory.

I think (think) it was in the video store interview. I think.

I believe Vallecito is covered by the LaPlata County Sheriff

Oh OK
I think there is a record of her call I just think MSM uses Marks because he was the one that lost him and he lives in the area!

I don't know what MSM uses or why, but I think Bender uses the person (Mark) who actually filed the missing person report, because that's who filed it and it's on record. :twocents:

These pictures are really moving. This group is putting in such a tremendous effort to find Dylan.

Yes they are and I am not understanding why so many people are pushing for TES. Not sure what TES has that LE cannot get a hold of through the FBI or other resources. Maybe TES has made more recoveries but they are a bigger, more well-known operation. But this group looks to be doing everything they can, and not waiting for spring, as I have heard TES say in other cases. I don't really understand LE's seemingly non-appreciative stance about this or any search group helping out.

My bolding. So if I call the police right now and say I'll come in tomorrow morning at 9am to fill out a report, and when I get there I have to wait an hour to do the report, they'll put 4:41pm 2/24 or 9am 2/25 on the report instead of logging the actual time I make the report at 10am 2/25?

That doesn't make any sense to me. I think they put the time they fill out the report.

:twocents: :twocents:

You call would be logged in the call log. Incoming time.

The report would be logged on the report when LE started the report.

Two separate events.

I don't think Elaine would have been able to call "their" (Bayfield) 911 as she was on the road. Wouldn't the call been routed to the nearest 911 from the area she was in?

Does that even make sense?? :seeya:

I wasn't even thinking about whether Elaine literally, actually punched the numbers 9-1-1 on her phone. All I was thinking of was those initial emergency (I think of them as emergency calls when it's a child missing) calls she made to the sheriff's office and to the Bayfield Police, the times, what was recorded (audio), what was recorded (report), and the same for Mark. The whole shebang. I was just trying to say I'd like all that initial info, no matter what everybody's personal preferences are on what to call them.

I won't get it any time soon, I'm sure, so I should have just kept that Christmas wish to myself, I guess.

Jumping off my own post, just wanted to add, depending on where you're at (in the USA) and how much money and volume LE handles, a huge majority of calls and reports are computerized, so the call/report times are automatically entered when a new call/report starts. Same with Dispatch. Computerized.

ETA: I do know that hand written/paper reports are required to be logged with time the call/report started...and often, the time the call/report ends. Had to do it that way for a very rural county I worked in not too long ago. It was a sore spot with employees because everyone else had already switched over to the computerized system and that county had no money for such "luxuries".

I agree that the report time they use is the time they start filling out the report. Thanks.

I know we would all love to see the call logs and the initial reports; it sure would help clear up some questions.

I guess we go with what Bender says.....LaPlata CSO is the lead agency for Dylan's disappearance.

And didn't they say they would not release any reports, etc (search warrant) because it was an on-going investigation?

So unless someone here can pull some strings and get the reports......

FOIA, but that would take a diligent and persistent reporter/news agency. MB doesn't have what it takes, IMO.

Sheriff Duke Schirard assumed the duties of Sheriff on January 10, 1995. Prior to that, Sheriff Schirard was acting Sheriff of La Plata County from 1977 to 1978, being appointed to that position by the Board of County Commissioners after working as a Patrol Deputy, Jail Deputy and finally as Undersheriff. Sheriff Schirard served the Bayfield community as Marshal from 1986 until December 1994.

It's possible one reason for the sheriff's office to not be as concerned with bringing in 3rd parties is they know the area very well personally and might not think new people coming in would be as effective. IMO

Schirard ran unopposed in 2010 and this Durango Herald editorial speaks well of him:

I hate to ask this question, but IF Dylan is found in the lake, what kind of condition would his body be in? Would they be able to see signs of trauma? Would the temperature of the lake preserve the body somehow? Sorry. :( Just curious.
