I was wondering too, why Vallecito Reservoir?? I see numerous other bodies of water, that could possibly be accessed under the cover of darkness....whether MR or other.
Have other water sites been searched?

I think it is possible Dylan's phone may have needed charged. Dylan was up till 4am Sunday morning, then the plane ride, then the ride to Vallecito.

I can also consider at this time Dylan may have switched to his iPod. Maybe Dylan's cellphone died during the movie. Dylan may have then got off the couch to get his iPod.

IIRC at 9:27pm Sunday night, MR and Dylan should have been watching the movie Adventureland. A movie MR doesn't remember because he really doesn't like to watch them.

In my opinion, it's possible MR was upset because Dylan was texting instead of watching a movie that MR really didn't want to watch.

Did an argument occur at this time? Maybe MR took both devices from Dylan and told him to watch the movie?

If all the above happened, what happened next?

Thank you for bringing me up to speed on your ideas, Sreshowtime -- I just spent an hour looking back through threads and couldn't find your earlier posts. I guess I could have done a search but it was interesting to read some of the prior posts.

I always felt Dylan was upset/unhappy about being on this trip and didn't want to be there. My gut reaction was he got up and left when he had the chance. Regarding Dylan's phone dying, I don't know what kind of phone he was using but we know that playing music and video games drains the battery. Incoming comment about my kids: one charges his phone as though his life depends on it; the other's phone is rarely charged. So much of our speculation revolves around whether he made it home that night. Is it impossible to ascertain that?

Forgive me if this question was answered -- were the dogs alerting to Dylan's scent specifically, or, to the scent of death within the lake?

It is all about the phone, IMO. LE used Dylan's lack of communication in large part to determine he had not run away. So they are taking the stoppage of his phone/texting seriously. They have access to his history of usage, as we do not. They do not need to go by what ER or anyone else may say about how often he used his phone, they can see for themselves and they declared it to be vital that he stopped using it.

Thanks isn't enough for this excellent point. There has been quite a bit of back and forth about what an "avid" texter means, or what teens typically do or who said what. Fortunately with access to the phone records, LE doesn't have to rely on opinions which can vary so widely. All MOO

I see that in every missing person case where the person has their own cell phone, and these days that seems to be every single one. It's standard -

- Did they take their phone?
- When was the last time they used their phone?
- Have they used their phone since the last time they were seen?
- When did their phone last ping?
- Where did their phone last ping?

It just goes right along with other standard things I see in cases the past years -

- Did they take their purse?
- Did they take their keys?
- Did they take their glasses?
- Did they take their medication?
- Were they wearing shoes?
- Did they take debit/credit cards?
- Did they take cash?
- Has there been any debit/credit card usage?

In every missing person case, these are the standard ways LE determines if the person is more likely voluntarily or involuntarily gone.

Just my opinion. :twocents:

someone more well versed (sarx, Oriah?) may correct, but IF HRD dogs did alert, I believe that would not have been specific to an individual person, only general

They've looked at other water in the area. I pulled up just one example here -

A helicopter from the San Juan County Sheriff's Office in New Mexico searched area lakes in La Plata County Tuesday afternoon, including Vallecito Lake, Lemon Reservoir, Haviland Lake, Lake Nighthorse and Electra Lake.

what if the phone was taken as a 'time out' of sorts, was there any other device Dylan could have used left in the house after MR left that morning?

  • #452
There seems to be alot of that in this case.

It started with the odds of Dylan being booked on 2 flights that had mechanical issues, which resulted in Dylan not being able to fly out on the 17th.

I fly alot and I cannot recall one time that happened. Now weather is a completely different issue altogether :)

There is a great way to check for this information as it must all be reported. They break this information down by airlines, airports, and then the various issues whether that be mechanical problems or a baggage issue. It can even be broken down by month.

I have been on flights that were delayed and flights that were canceled due to mechanical issues. I fly out of an International Airport and tend to book flights early so that there are options available. If the flight was the last or next to last flight to Durango and the flight is canceled, you wait until the next day. I was once stuck in Denver, in the summer, due to mechanical troubles, by the time we left (some 6 hours later) we were literally the ONLY flight going out of that terminal and the ONLY flight landing in the terminal when we arrived. BTW - airport parking lots can be pretty frightening at 2 am.

The only way this situation will be resolved is if Mr. Redwine finally tells the truth. And, yes, discussing him, challenging him, keeping him in the public eye, etc... is the only strategy that makes sense @ this point.

This is my opinion only, and everyone has a right to discuss whatever they chose, but hashing through anecdotes of our own childrens' lives has no bearing on this situation. In fact, that speaks to personal bias. What is more effective is comparing/contrasting the consistencies/inconsistencies between what is known about Dylan pre-Thanksgiving trip and what is being reported about Dylan's actions and behaviors once he got off the plane.

BBM....
I do agree that continuing to discuss compare etc. is a good thing. Talking about Dylan's Dad is a good thing too. I do disagree with what I bolded. I think hearing personal situations from others as it pertains to Dylan and his family is important. We have all said certain things don't sound right that MR did, or how he has reacted. Hearing others and their experiences can explain it or another side imo.

I think we all have our own personal bias without even saying it. That's what an opinion is, that's why we have so many different ideas and thoughts here.

Thanksgiving court ordered visitation w/ MR

November 18 - Dylan arrives at LaPlata County Airport (Per LE)

November 19 - Dylan reported missing @ approximately 6:00 p.m. (Per LE)

It's probably not important as far as your purpose in posting this, but didn't they also take the road trip to see the Red Sox in August '12?

OK Confusion, I reread MB interview and see that it does state MR says they went to see the Red Sox "this year" but it doesn't say when - just this year - which would be 2012 - so since MR said he last saw his son Labor Day - would that have occurred during the September visit or perhaps end of August/September? I think I remember now having a question mark by that and didn't add it since the September 2012 Labor Day visit may actually include the Red Sox trip. I wasn't sure of the specific date.

I'll check with AZG next time I see her in here and maybe she can help clarify just a specific month(s)/date(s).

Thanks again!

AZG, can you confirm whether D went to Mark's in August 2012 to see Red Sox as indicated above, AND ALSO went for a 2nd visit to see his dad in Sept. 2012 for Labor Day (which I believe was 9-2-12) or did the Labor Day visit INCLUDE a trip to see Red Sox????

I want to edit the visit timeline above if these were 2 separate visits. Thanks

IMO - there's always a first time.

Sure, but a person could just poof into thin air for the first time, but for me, I put it further down on my list. Uh oh. People have poofed into thin air! Bermuda triangle, that settlement in Virginia or North Carolina in the colonial days. :floorlaugh:

ETA - Just wanted to make it clear that I am laughing at myself for using a bad example, not laughing at you, azgrandma.

The reason Vallecito lake would make sense is IF MR did do something to Dylan and wanted to make it look like an accident he could then indicate that Dylan took the fishing pole and might have tried to go fishing in this lake and/or Dylan might have tried to make it to his friend T's which is right by the marina at this lake (which is 5.9 miles away). The accident scenario would be that Dylan fell in the lake and drowned. Of course that would mean a body would be in this lake. That remains to be seen.

I think if what I stated above turns out to be true (a body is found in this lake) then the fishing pole and mentioning of T were an afterthought. (after the body was disposed of) And if this turns out to be true, than I will not be surprised to find out the 9:37 text was also to T and something like 'hey you want to go fishing tomorrow?'

This is an excellent question! I'll spend some time this evening on maps, see what the geography and access is like around some of the other reservoirs. Vallecito Reservoir is an obvious place to look because of easy access (right along the road) IMO

snipped

In either case, and in the morning, it's certainly feasible to me that Dylan simply didn't return any more texts or initiate any texts. I came to the conclusion

(based on Elaine's statements (NG 12/3 & Blasius), as well as on her behavior (not being surprised or upset or concerned and not taking any action to determine if something was wrong when Dylan didn't return her text Sunday night and she apparently just went to bed and didn't try to contact Dylan, and the same when Dylan didn't return her text she sent Monday morning she wasn't surprised or upset or concerned but apparently just went on to work and didn't try to contact Dylan all day), and the behavior of Dylan's friend R who wasn't upset or concerned until late afternoon when MR showed up and simply sent a where are you text at 6:46am and a come to nando's text at about 10am and didn't contact ER))

that it was not unusual or uncommon but well within Dylan's norm not to text or text back to people.

Snipped by me to keep it brief and address a particular portion.

BBM - ER did receive a return text from DR, she asked (paraphrasing) if his dad picked him up. DR responded with yeah and a scowl face. (NG interview)

IMO there would be no need for ER to be surprised, upset or concerned if DR did not text her on Monday, apparantly she thought DR was with his father and had no idea that he had not been seen by MR for over 9 hours and she had no idea that he had not been communicating with anyone for over 21 hours. But she sure as heck did become surprised, upset and concerned within moments of discovering at least one of those facts.

2nd BBM - facts from ER's direct statements on NG - Dylan was an avid texter, his phone was smoking, etc. Do you have a link that indicates it was within his norm to not text or text back to people? TIA

I think one of the BIGGEST reasons Vallicito Reservoir is being looked at is because the dogs hit there, from the very beginning.

There are many other bodies of water, further from MR's home, but I think LE was focused in, when the dogs indicated there might be a reason too.
