Covering his bases, yet not really reporting him missing. Interesting, IMO

Your opinion. I disagree with you. I believe Mark was very concerned about Dylan's whereabouts and it had nothing to do with "covering bases" at all.

The only thing that would make believe that the dad was innocent was if Dylans fingerprints was found on the cereal bowl.

This new release tells me exactly where they are with this entire situation. Tic-toc :seeya:

So where has his concern been for the last 4 months?

Shortly after Dylan disappeared, Colorado Springs 911 dispatchers were put through a very specific training for handling missing person calls, I believe from NCMEC. To ensure that there was consistency in the information collected and how the call was processed. Maybe the La Plata area folks (911, SO, Durango PD and Bayfield MO) could benefit.

I can't presume to decide how the parent of a missing child might behave. I offer this presumption to ER as well as MR. Given the situation I think that MR's actions can viewed as being in the normal range. He hasn't collected life insurance and bought a new car and I haven't heard of his planned move to Mexico.

  • #307
Here is how I think it went down.

MR goes to T house, no one there, then to Bayfield, Officer says we will keep an eye open go back home and check there, on way back home MR stops at T again, this time he is home and speaks with him.

I can easily see this not being taken seriously.

Indeed!
Had Dylan been a young teen female, 'her' disappearance likely would have immediately been classified 'a runaway' and no LE would bother taking it seriously for about 2 weeks..
We've seen it before. :moo:

Many thanks to LE for releasing that presser. And I think you guys are analyzing it the same ways that I've been reading the information.

I'd like to know how much investigators know about that time frame from when MR went to run errands and when he got back. I don't get a chance to read every post so please fill me in if MR has mentioned what errands he ran that day? The post office was one, right? Or no?

Mark Redwine:
And, you know, I get up to go run my errands ‘cos I had a payroll issue that needed to be dealt with first thing Monday morning because that’s when payroll goes in, and so it was important for me to get down there as early as possible. Well, I wanted to leave at 6:30 so I would be there at 7:30 when they open the doors.

Mark Redwine:
I spoke with my divorce attorney ‘cos we were in the process of filing some papers with the courts …in regards to you know the divorce side of stuff.

Mark Redwine:
Uh… I made a phone call to a property management company because there was a check that they were trying to get that I had sent to ‘em and I just wanted to make sure but I didn’t stop by there, it was a simple phone call.

Mark Redwine:
Nah, I was gonna’ stop at the store and pick up some stuff. I was trying to get a hold of him to get a better idea what we were going to be trying to do for Thanks knowing that I was in Durango and that I could pick up things if we needed them for Thanksgiving or what we were gonna kinda do, so that’s what was my biggest reason for trying to communicate wit him. You know, he had time to sleep on it for a night, so at this point, you know, maybe he thought about it and can give me some way to figure out where we’re going from here. You know, when you drive up here, you don’t want to go to Durango again the next day, so you have to think ahead. You know, you gotta’ make sure you pick up everything you need while you’re in town because it’s a long way to go to Durango or Bayfield to get something you overlooked.

He's been "busy" :floorlaugh:

Sometimes he's working.

Of course he has his "hobbies" :Banane29:

And there's always the internet :drama:

Beer and TV go well together :drink:

Or maybe he's just waiting for those pesky aliens to return Dylan :abduction:

I started reading about this in the last two weeks, so I'm late to the "game." However, when reading the media links above, I found this quote from a November 26, 2012, article. The article states that dogs tracked his scent to the lake? Has this been verified, one way or another?

And, I was struck by MR's comment about Dylan arriving without a coat. Did MR buy a coat for Dylan at WalMart? Was the child without a coat?

The first sentence indicates that it was cadaver dogs, which to me is different from tracking dogs following Dylan's scent from the home to the lake.

"Police and volunteers searched a Colorado lake for a 13-year-old boy after cadaver dogs picked up a scent that led them to the edge of the water."

So no, I don't think that they have confirmed that there is a dead body in the water.

And then about a coat, no from what we know Dylan does not have a coat.

Hope that helps. :)

This is another great point too. So what if a kid runs away from home? They should still be looked for because so many things can happen to them. I don't think they believe the dangers out there are all that real, as in they view them as urban legends that their parents tell them, and usually by the time they find out they are it's too late. They tend to run away because they think the grass is greener but usually the pasture is full of dead grass and petrified poo.

Mark and Elaine have been divorced awhile right ?

So why was he going to sort out divorce stuff if its been years since it was finalised ?

  • #314
So where has his concern been for the last 4 months?

With Dylan, apparently. Mark has offered to help Elaine with many fundraising events, but has been denied at every turn. There's 3 sides to every story, remember this. Elaine isn't an angel when it comes to Mark.

Perhaps he was told he could not file a report there since it was not in their jurisdiction and they directed him to go to the sheriff's office. Then once he got there, it was learned that Elaine had already called the SD and made an initial report, so he just didn't think there was a need to file another report, or they combined the two reports.
I don't think I would say that he did not report him missing... he did try, IMO, he just went to the wrong agency. It's not like he sat back and never made an attempt to report it at all. JMHO

I wonder if MR tried to file a missing person report and was told that the custodial parent had to do that. From the press release:
Dylan was reported missing on Monday, November 19, 2012, when Dylan’s mother, Elaine Redwine, contacted the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office at about 5:30 PM to report that Dylan was missing from his father’s home in Vallecito. Mark Redwine, Dylan’s father, had previously contacted the Bayfield Marshal’s Office on the 19th attempting to learn if they had seen Dylan, and he then contacted Elaine asking if she had heard from Dylan.
My take is that MR contacted the Marshall's Office, couldn't file the missing person report either because he was not the custodial parent or because it was the wrong agency, contacted ER, and then ER contacted the SO and filed the official missing person report.

Pure speculation on my part so JMO.

I don't believe they were finished with all of the financials.

Meanwhile, a two-day search of the bottom of Vallecito Lake's south side by dive teams and three boats using sonar equipment failed to find anything, Bender said.

The search happened after cadaver dogs from the La Plata County Search and Rescue Team had alerted on unidentified scent sources on the south shore of the lake last weekend

The Task Force has canvassed local area residents, has employed air-scent canines in ground searches, canine search and rescue teams from New Mexico searching local lakes and waters and surrounding areas. These areas have been searched and searched again not because of any particular tip but to insure the searches have exhausted the areas.

I have not seem LE verify or talk about dogs tracking Dylan's scent to the lake. The HRD dogs did get hits on the lake. Also the team that the family brought in recently also got HRD dog hits on/around lake.

When Mark contacted the Marshall's Office when he couldn't locate Dylan maybe he told them that he was divorced and Dylan was with him for a court ordered visitation.

It wouldn't surprise me that an officer told him to contact Dylan's mother and see if she may have come and picked up Dylan before filing a missing person report. When he did contact Elaine, she told him that she didn't have Dylan and she was calling the Sheriffs Office to report him missing.

This scenario would fit with Mark's story of what happened. MOO.
I just posted a similar thought - I knew I should have finished catching up on the thread first! :blushing:

Not true. MR HAD "custody" of Dylan during the court ordered visit and was his legal parent. LE doesn't get involved in the civil/family court side of a missing child when it comes to the child disappearing. (ETA: at least at the time of the immediate reporting).

So then do your own fundraisers , no ? . So the fact he has not leads me to believe IMO he is not trying !

But just like taking another polygraph it seems to much like hard work :cow:
