For me, there are 4 seperate time blocks that need to be explained and accounted for seperately to begin to know what happened. We're not going to solve it here, but I think looking at it this way may put it into perspective.
1) 6-8pm Sunday
Dylan's plane lands, he arrives in Durango. Assume he is in fact picked up by dad (should be airport/flight policy).
What time did the flight land (airline should be able to get exact on this)?
Is there any footage in /outside of airport to confirm this?
What did Dylan have with him? Backpack, cell, charger, and the clothes he was wearing-- that much we know.
Did he have another piece of luggage?
Dylan texted mom that he arrived safely in Durango, text had scowly face. What exact time was this? Is LE certain this was Dylan who texted? What other specific communication did Dylan have that evening, with who, and what form? Who initiated it, what was said, what plans were made, how solidified were they, what was last said?
We believe he went grocery shopping w/dad to get food for the week -- where did they go shopping? Walmart? Has that been confirmed? How was it confirmed? Receipts? Credit card? Surveillance? Eye witnesses?
How long were they in the grocery store?
Is there any photo/video surveillance of dad's vehicle supposedly with Dad and Dylan in it on route back home from airport? Either from businesses, residents, traffic cams, etc.
What time does dad say they arrived home? Does dad have anything to potentially confirm this time of arrival?
Where were they at 8pm? When asked directly, where does dad say he and Dylan were at 8pm? Were they still driving, were they already at home? Was Dylan in bed, were they eating dinner, watching TV?
Where did Dylan's cell last ping at 8pm when it was last active? At dad's home? On the road? Somewhere else? What does dad have to say about Dylan's phone that evening/night? Did he take the cell away? Does he say there's no cell service? Did he notice Dylan turn the phone off? Could Dylan have dropped it outside in the driveway and lost it?
... I could go on but I'll spare you all... feel free to add if you want though..
2) 8pm - 7:30AM
What happened during these 11 1/2 hours? Perhaps the hardest to explain and our answer may well lie here.
Did Dylan make it to dad's house?
Did Dylan's backpack, cell, charger, and other items make it to dad's house?
What time did Dylan go to sleep? What time did Dad go to sleep? Did dad ever leave the house that night? Can anyone or anything confirm or place dad remaining at the house all night? Or place him leaving the house, out on the road, in town, anywhere but at home during these hours.
Was the home phone used?
Did Dad actually see Dylan at all, confirmed, alive during this time?
Where was Dylan's cell, why was it off or not working?
Basically... WTH happened during this time?
3) 7:30am - 11:30am
Dad goes to do errands. It's confirmed that he went to see his divorce atty. Was this planned in advance. If so, how far?
Did he make this appointment last minute? How long was he there-- was this his only appointment or did he have other errands?
Can the entire time he was supposedly out be accounted for or is there some unexplained time?
Did he have a cell phone and if so did he use it while he was out? Who did he call? Did his cell pings verify his whereabouts for that morning.
What do we know about Dylan during this time?
Are there any signs of break -in at dad's house?
Anything whatsoever to indicate outside foul play?
Anything to suggest someone familiar might've stopped by and Dylan willingly left but this turned sinister (ie.. different set of tire tracks)?
What was missing from the house, what's still there? Any sign(s) of what Dylan did that morning... breakfast, shower, trash? Any DNA traces- blood (from cuts? harm?), hair, etc.?
4) 11:30am - 4:30pm
What time did dad get home? How long did it take him to realize Dylan was missing?
When did he realize the fishing pole was missing, or did he, was that even a real concern that day?
What was the exact sequence of events for him.... who did he call, in what order, and what did he say to each, what questions did he ask, what information did he give, was he panicked, did he suggest calling LE or did Dylan's mom? What did he say on the 911 call?
Did he go searching through Dylan's things, if they were there?
Did he search around the house, yard, neighborhood, town, lake?
Can he be accounted for from the time he "got home" until the time he reported Dylan missing and was physically with LE? Aside from the time he was physically with Dylan's friends asking them where Dylan was?
I can see LE breaking down these initial 22 hours into these blocks because I think they each hold significant answers.
Updated -- If anyone wants to tack on questions under any timeframe, we can use this as a central collection.. if that will help?
Alas, I have no answers... just a prayer.
