JMO-Although there are unanswered questions about the cell phone(s), MR has cooperated fully and that speaks volumes. I live in Washington State.. when Sky went missing, JB went silent which was disturbing to most everyone. At least (thank goodness) there is full cooperation by both parents in DR's disappearance.

Yes, Sky's case is very sad, but as pointed out previously, LE referred to 3 yo Emiliano Terry's mom as very helpful and cooperative; shortly before they charged her with aggravated murder in his death. Thread and links here at WS. Cooperative is better than not cooperative, but doesn't necessarily indicate guilt or innocence.

In Emilliano Terry's case last week we heard that his mother was completely cooperative - right up until she was arrested for being him to death and disposing of him in a dumpster.

Actually, some cell providers also have 411. I can't remember if it was Sprint or Verizon where you'd dial 1-411.

we are not talking about using it, we are talking about obtaining a phone number of a cell phone threw 411

411 wouldn't do any good trying to contact his friends cell phones. Trust me if his phone was broken or inoperable the first thing he would have thought of was internet.

This is what I keep saying. If he wanted to contact someone...ie Mom, Dad, friends and something was seriously wrong with his phone I do believe he had other means available to him. I would think the next best thing to cell phone is internet. Heck I can even send and receive texts through my carrier on their website.
Why did LE take that ipad/ipod? (can someone please clarify which it was for me?)

I sure would like to know if Dad had internet service. Because all the scenarios of the dead phone wouldn't matter if Dad had internet and that Ipad or Ipod that LE took was working. Dylan would most likely have contacted his friends using that if his phone didn't work. And we do know that Dad did have a landline....although I agree that if my phone wasn't working I can think of 2 people that I could call whose numbers I have memorized.

i would think DR would know at least his mother's phone number. jmo

Phone off (for whatever reason) and no contact with his friends after 8pm the night before he is reported missing and no contact the next morning is very bothersome. Nowadays there are many ways to contact people.

An iPod Touch can be used to text and even make calls using Google Voice. I have an 11yo niece that uses hers to FaceTime me pretty often.

Based on past behaviors, LE determined that he did not run away. Whatever his normal pattern of communication (texting/calling) LE has determined that had not been happening upon his arrival at the airport. JMO

So if he could have called/texted someone he would have...

Verizon. No app needed. Just go to their website and send a text message. I'm sure it's available from other providers also.

Verizon offers this and there are countless websites out there that you can send free texts from. Not to long ago I had issues with someone using one of those websites to harass me.

"Do you have your phone and charger" is always the last thing I say to my boys if they are headed out somewhere without me. I'm really obsessive about maintaining contact when they are way and I don't accept any excuses.

iPod.

We don't know if it was dad's or Dylan's.

Last night I checked through every iPod looking at features and apps (my iPod is an older "classic" ... just music, no fluff). Some of the spiffier models could have a number of apps that would have trackable data / history.. whereas mine you can only look at recently played music. But of course we don't know who it belonged to and what kind/how new.

I would guess Dylan's iPod would be glued to him along with a cell phone, but we have no idea.

Yes, but I was thinking of reasons why he would choose to hitchhike rather than try to call his friends to pick him up.

Are we 100% certain that he had his charger with him? If he forgot his charger and his phone was dead in the morning, maybe he didn't use the landline because he doesn't have his friends' numbers memorized. I would be lost if I couldn't use my Contacts on my cell phone.

But cell phone batteries can go bad, especially if they've overheated. I've had that problem in the past, and so has my son. If the battery goes bad, it won't charge. It's not always obvious immediately. The battery goes dead, so you connect your phone to the charger, only to find out later it hasn't charged at all.

I never said cat would disrobe him. But I don't think cat would take backpack that Dylan had with him. As far as I can tell cats have no interest in backpacks.

This reminds me of JAWS when they cut open the shark and find a license plate. It would be interesting to see what type of material objects have been found in mtn lions stomachs. Also, just because the backpack hasn't been found, it doesn't mean this couldn't have occurred....it could be out of sight....I'm just reminded of a story someone told me, I'm not sure if its bs or not, but here's what I was told: One day, here in coyote country, this girl's precious cat disappears without a trace. She is convinced it must've been a victim of a coyote, as that is very common here. So she actually goes to the closest coyote den (we are often aware of these locations, there is actually one right behind Safeway) where she finds her cat's collar. Fact or fiction, I can't be sure.

One other thing to note, if the mtn lion scenario is being thoroughly investigated, many mtn lions are chipped and tracked I think, so they could see what mountain lions were in the area. Instead of a Registered Sex Offender, a Registered Mountain Lion.
