On the comment about he and Dylan's mom not agreeing on flights with connections, gate changes, layovers, I wonder if MR thought Dylan should be able to deal with that (cheaper flights) and his mom did not like that. Back when my stepdaughters flew to see us, they had airline escorts until they were 14, at additional charge.

A few of you were speculating that Dylan may have fallen in the lake and accidentally drown. This video shows (to me) that he is a confident swimmer.

Why didn't he contact his friends, who were waiting for him, and tell them he would be there later?

Had he ever hiked to that lake before, by himself?

Did anyone see him on his 4 mile hike to the lake?

If he were planning on hitchhiking, I don't think he was planning on walking back home. He started out for the lake, went to fish a little, then planned on either hitching a ride the rest of the way, or maybe calling dad and saying, Pick me up at the lake instead.

Although ... . I'm curious about the conversation in the morning. Presumably MR had an appt, and had told Dylan he would take him to friends when he went to his appt and errands. Dylan agrees, that night. But early the next morning, he was tired and didn't want to get up. Dad says, "Sorry, if you want to go, you have to go now, I am not driving that way twice today." (That's what I would have said -- now or never, buddy!) Dylan rolls over to sleep, Dad leaves. Dylan wakes up and thinks, CRAP, I lost my ride, and he won't take me later, so I have to get there myself.

I doubt if it means anything, but when I first saw that (with the words), I thought it was interesting that it was about a boy who lived with his mother and another man (stepfather/boyfriend) and visited with his father. The times with Dad were full of love and laughter, the times with Mom and OtherGuy were sad, angry and abusive (by the guy, not by Mom). I do hope it's just the music he likes, and not the words he relates to.

I also wanted to comment on walking 4+ miles to the reservoir. ed to a place a week after my 14th birthday, so I was close to DR's age, my brother is a year younger than me, so he's also close. The closest place to swim or fish was a lake about 3 1/2 miles away. It usually took about 45 minutes to walk there, and sometimes less if there was a reason to hurry. During the summer, we (not always together) walked to and from that lake almost every day, and sometimes more than once in a day. When DR is in that area, he seems to spend a lot of time outside, so I don't see it as unreasonable that he might walk down there on occasion.

Someone wearing a backpack in extremely cold water is in trouble, no matter how good of a swimmer he is. Sometimes things happen, and in cold water, it takes only seconds to become incapacitated.

It sounds to me like there was some controversy over the delayed flight. Dylan was supposed to come out on the 17th and mom rescheduled to the 19th with the reason that there was something mechanically wrong with the plane.

Personally, that's not a good reason because the airport would get a new plane and the flight would go out as scheduled, or a bit late. BUT, in all my travels, I have never been delayed 2 days because of a mechanical problem with a plane.

The only thing that would make this reasonable is if the flight was chartered on a private plane. So far, we have no evidence of that.

So his flight was TWO days later than originally booked. Yeah, mechanical probs for 2 days seems......unusual.

Since the 17th flight would have been a Friday after school, I wonder if Dylan had things in Colorado Springs that he wanted to do over the weekend and really didn't want to go til Sunday night. Then to turn around and drive all the way back 2 days later, I can only imagine what he might have thought of that.

One more thing about the clothes, I think he went missing in what he wore on the plane...and if that is the case, then could also explain the reason they didn't have any clothes at Marks house to have a GOOD scent to....as the other clothes haven't been worn since washing, but mom would have plenty of dirty clothes....that might explain the reason for him not having them.

Still trying to catch up after my errands this morning, but this is a thought I've had a few times in the last couple days and I really want to post it now. Forgive me if someone else has said it.

If Dylan disappeared in the clothes he had on at the airport, Walmart and McDonalds, then I really really really wish LE would release a shot of him from those surveillance cameras. If he was abducted, then wouldn't it be nice for folks to have the best idea possible about how Dylan looked that morning?

LE isn't releasing that pic yet. That makes me really worry about why they aren't.

I think its way to far a distance to even think of hitching a ride. Isnt it 20 miles?
and if Dad said something like yu go now or not at all Id bet my last dollar Dylan would have been up and dressed and out the door with him JMO.

It can take hours to get a new plane ready to go as a replacement for a plane with a mechanical problem and sometimes airlines will allow you to re-schedule.
My husband is terrified to fly anyway....but he has done it numerous times across the country and to other countries (I love to fly and always want the window seat, so we are opposites).
Once, when his plane had a mechanical problem, the steward told him the plane was "broke" so they must wait for a new one to be prepared. He freaked out at that word: "broke." He came home and refused to fly that day. He was a bit unnerved by that.
This summer, while flying to New Orleans, we sat in the plane for almost 2 hours waiting for a repair to be completed....and for a storm clearance. Fortunately, he couldn't get out so he took a nerve pill and stayed on board. We had a fantastic trip and a wonderful, easy return flight.
