CO - Dylan Redwine missing from Vallecito ***SEARCH DISCUSSION ONLY***

I personally believe that Dylan, or at least someone, is in the lake. Based on Mark Redwine's statements and evidence (statements about the missing fishing pole, that he liked to go down to the lake, etc.), the proximity of the lake, and the fact that bodies are frequently dumped in bodies of water lead me to believe that that's highest likelihood of where Dylan can be found.

A few questions: does anyone know what the visibility is in the lake now, and what it typically is during summer months? I've heard many different statements on the clarity of the water. Are we talking 3 feet, 10 feet or 40 feet? Maybe someone from that area knows more definitively. Please post if you can.

It would also make sense that if a body were dumped there, there would be some ideal locations to drop it and many unlikely or impossible places. If a boat wasn't used, it would have to be near shore, and probably near the deepest water possible (i.e. the dam). If weighted down, there's a good possibility that it's right were it was dropped (and if it wasn't weighted down, I think it would either have floated now or would soon (IMO, and dependent on many factors).

If anyone knows the visibility in the lake (with some degree of accuracy) please post. Thanks.

Wendy Kessinger of K-9 Forensics on her dogs May 13, 2013:

The search dogs are specially trained to follow scents.

"One canine is worth 40 people in a search and a life search. Their [sense of] smell is just, I don't think we know what their limitations are," says K-9 Forensics' Wendy Kessinger.

The dogs can even pick up scents that are decades old.

"When they hit the ground, these ears are long ears. They actually pull the scent up, the flakes from your skin. It holds in all the wrinkles here. It holds that scent there," said Kessinger.

It's a crucial search skill needed here in New Mexico and internationally.

"They can track from the last known place a child or adult has been seen," said Kessinger.

Soon, K-9 Forensics will go back to look for Dylan Redwine in Colorado. The teen has been missing since Nov. 19, 2012.

Here's something that's still bugging me. Last November, the HRD dogs picked up a scent on the lake. As recent as two months ago, when the lake was still frozen over, holes were cut in the ice and the HRD dogs again picked up a scent (and I as recall, they were 'strong hits'). The dogs believe that a human being is in the lake - so why is that not a serious point of focus, with more dive teams coming in and more dogs on the water trying to pinpoint the source of the scent?

It was February when the holes were cut in the ice (Wendy/K-9 Forensics). In April (Elaine's sonar and dog teams), when the lake was searched, the ice had melted. They didn't use divers in April, according to D Hess, because she said divers are only used when to recover a body if it's found. It's in one of the articles I linked upthread.

So far as why more dive teams and dogs haven't come to search the water some more, the head of Elaine's dive team recommended ground searches. That's also in an article I posted upthread, and is the only available answer I could offer you from what's in linkable sources.

Any news from the K-9 search over Memorial Day weekend?

Thx.

The only news I've seen is in Tricia's radio show this past Sunday night, where it turns out it was Mark who brought Wendy in on Mem Day weekend. That was a surprise to me. (I thought Elaine had brought them back.)

Since I've been trying to track which dogs did which search - K-9 Forensics facebook has pictures of Sadie, Saber, and Molly searching on May 26.

Saber is HRD. Per posts on facebook by Wendy, Molly is a relatively new dog of hers, and has "started" HRD (April 17). Sadie is not HRD, but Wendy decided to start training her for HRD (May 17).

Wow, according to the MSM article they put together a large search group. 6 or 7 different agencies.

Snip - In addition to the Sheriff’s Office, other agencies involved in today’s search will include the
Durango Police Department,
La Plata County Search and Rescue,
Durango Fire & Rescue Authority,
Upper Pine River Fire Protection District,
La Plata Mounted Patrol and the Forest Service.

They searched this area the weekend after Dylan went missing. Searched on the Dec 8th search and are focusing there now. Makes me wonder what has lead them there again....

The search is not based on any new clues; rather, it is one in a series of follow-up searches being conducted after the winter snow and ice melt.

It is not a volunteer search, and the Sheriff’s Office is not asking for the public’s help.

The search will be done along both sides of Middle Mountain Road, a U.S. Forest Service road north of Vallecito Reservoir, according to a news release. The road was last searched in November and December.

“This weekend’s search will be to see if any clues might have been uncovered with the passage of time,” according to the release.

In addition to the Sheriff’s Office, other agencies involved in today’s search will include the Durango Police Department, La Plata County Search and Rescue, Durango Fire & Rescue Authority, Upper Pine River Fire Protection District, La Plata Mounted Patrol and the Forest Service.

I wonder if Tricia is going to have Mark on her show tomorrow night and discuss how the search is going or what he knows about the search? That would be great!

Hopefully today is the day they find something that leads them to Dylan!

Wow! this looks like a comprehensive search for Dylan...

So many agencies involved!

:praying: clues to Dylan's location is found today!

No clues found in Redwine search

Searchers looking for signs of missing teenager Dylan Redwine on Saturday scoured a 12-mile section of Middle Mountain Road above Vallecito Reservoir but came up empty-handed, said Lt. Dan Bender, spokesman for the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office.

About 45 people joined the search, Bender said. They checked not only the road but 100 yards on each side of the road, he said.

The search was not based on any new clues; rather, it is one in a series of follow-up searches being conducted after the winter snow and ice melt.

A smaller number of searchers will look at a few places today that they were unable to check Saturday, Bender said.
