CO - Dylan Redwine missing from Vallecito ***SEARCH DISCUSSION ONLY***

Is this something that any of you have seen before? Where they call both parents in to look at items when one is miles and miles away? That seems drastic. It sort of scares me. Makes me fear the worst.

I don't recall ever seeing or hearing anything like this before. If they are requiring Mark to drive 15+ hours instead of telling him over the phone or just waiting on him to get back to town then I feel that it has to be something major. I assume that LE would not make such an unusual request otherwise.

This sounds significant to me. It sounds like maybe they are asking both of them to come in to possibly identify some of the items as belonging to Dylan to be certain they are of significance to the case?

This area is the same area that many people had talked about for a long time now, right? The other side of the lake where the campground is? Near where they have been doing many searches all along? This is all quite close to MR's home, correct? Any locals available to help us out?
Middle Mountain is to the northeast of Vallecito Lake. If you listened to Tricia's two radio shows, one with Elaine and Mark, and one with Mark only, Middle Mountain was referenced as a place where Brandon and Mark had at least started to search, but they "turned around" and came back. (Transcript so thoughtfully provided on page 5 of Dylan Redwine *Media , Maps & Timelines* by TxJan1971). LE says the area had not been completely searched when winter set in and the roads were closed.

See maps I posted above. ETA: If I am correct on those maps, the drainage from the mountain goes directly west to the river that empties into the north end of Vallecito Reservoir. If there is something deceased up there, that could explain the dog hits.

All JMO

This is just a thought I have...

but wouldn't LE consider flying Mark and/or Elaine to the reservoir/search area?

I imagine the emotions the parents are feeling could be distracting to a driver... And therefore, the drive would be unsafe?

:dunno:

I wonder why this news was released at all, until after tomorrow.

You know, that thought had not even occurred to me. Good question. The only thing I can think of is that news gets out. Maybe LE wanted to say it first in a measured way?

Thank you so much for opening the thread! I hope that whatever they found helps lead us to Dylan or holds some evidentiary value in finding the person who did this. I know many have their opinions of who did this, but perhaps this evidence will be either incriminating or even exculpatory. One way or another, it seems LE is keeping this information close to the vest, so I am hoping that means it is SIGNIFICANT!

Hang in there Dylan! No one has forgotten you!!!

Or, no one did anything to him and he had an accident. IIRC, they showed pics on one or more of the media reports of the area where this stuff was purportedly found. It doesn't exactly look like a place where someone can or would dispose of a body. MOO.

ETA: This is, of course, if this is his stuff and if he is nearby. I suppose anyone could dispose of random items up there, but even that looks like it would be difficult. There would likely be more efficient avenues to dispose of someone's personal items.

Although Holly Bobo's items were scattered locally and she certainly did not meet with an accident, IMO. Also if Dylan had an accident, he should be right there with his stuff.

If he had an accident, wouldn't that mean he walked or hiked there? That would be a long way to go without being seen. Unless there are more direct trails that he knew. An accident way out there seems really unlikely to me. (JMO)

Not necessarily. If someone fell off the edge of a steep drop off after putting their backpack down, they would not be with their stuff. But then a further search should turn up a body. (in theory). I am betting they are waiting to see what Dylan's parents have to say before searching further.

Mark Redwine was travelling out of state and is driving back to Vallecito now. He does not expect to meet with investigators until Thursday afternoon.

That is brutal for Elaine. Will they really make her wait?
Nothing says Elaine has or has not already met with investigators. The reports only say that the investigators want to meet with both parents. It doesn't say together or separately, either.

Maybe she hasn't had to wait. I don't know why they would have to be together, really.

I wonder if it possible that they actually found the items, or something, on Saturday and have already determined that it relates to Dylan?

BBM - I think this could definitely be a possibility, considering the scope of search teams seemed to have vastly increased since they started searching on Saturday, to include the FBI, Homeland Security, ...

These are the groups reported today:

Groups taking part included: La Plata County Sheriff’s Office; Durango Police Department; Bayfield Marshal’s Office; Dept of Homeland Security; U.S.Forest Service; La Plata Search & Rescue; La Plata Mounted Patrol; AZSTAR K-9 teams (Arizona); members of the Southwest Drug Task Force; Necro Search; Upper Pine Fire Protection District; Durango Fire & Rescue Tactical Team; anthropologists and archaeologists from Fort Lewis College; FBI.

“Sectors were treated as possible crime scenes.

This is what they reported on Saturday:

In addition to the Sheriff’s Office, other agencies involved in the search included the Durango Police Department, La Plata County Search and Rescue, Durango Fire & Rescue Authority, Upper Pine River Fire Protection District, La Plata Mounted Patrol and the U.S. Forest Service.

The fact that they brought in anthropologists and archaeologists is quite concerning, to me.

I looked up "Necro" that is listed as one of the search groups - this is what I found

http://www.necrosearch.org/assistance.html

NecroSearch provides assistance to law enforcement agencies in the search for and/or recovery of human remains and evidence.

ETA: Why the Southwest Drug Task Force??

Imagine lots of animal bones in that environment.

Anthropologists would be helpful to have on a search that size, to rule in/out as human

And archeologists to distinguish any ancient bones found as opposed to current

:twocents:

I hope this can help lead to Dylan or even give some clue to what happened . Maybe posters was right on here and they always had a vague idea of where to search but they had to wait for the right weather ?!

BBM
Maybe because of the following? It looks like Special Investigations works on regular criminal cases, too, and is part of the Southwest Drug Task Force.

http://co.laplata.co.us/departments_and_elected_officials/sheriff

"Special Investigations

The Mission of the Special Investigations Unit:

To provide investigation for the discovery, cntrol and prosecution fo criminal cases and to pro-actively suppress offenses related to vice, narcotics, and organized crime.

The unit is charged with maintaining the Sheriff's Office Intelligence function, and is part of the Southwest Drug Task Force.

The Special Investigations Unit is made up of a Lieutenant, Investigators, and an Office Manager."

I agree, i do not see them making Elaine wait as they not married and have not worked together at all during this difficult period .
