CO - Dylan Redwine missing from Vallecito ***SEARCH DISCUSSION ONLY***

I looked up "Necro" that is listed as one of the search groups - this is what I found

http://www.necrosearch.org/assistance.html

NecroSearch provides assistance to law enforcement agencies in the search for and/or recovery of human remains and evidence.

ETA: Why the Southwest Drug Task Force??

I thought I would bring this information over from your Necrosearch link

Assistance: Typical Scenario

Contact

Law enforcement investigator contacts NecroSearch via phone, FAX, or mail and gives brief overview of case.

Q & A

The investigator will be provided with a special questionnaire that asks burial-related questions about the case.

Assessment

The completed questionnaire is reviewed by NecroSearch members to determine the optimum methodology to assist the investigator in locating the clandestine grave.

Planning

NecroSearch members confer with the investigator to establish an operational plan. At this stage remote sensing specialists will also review available air photos and satellite images.

Field Assistance

If requested, a NecroSearch field team then conducts a site investigation under the direction of the requesting agency. Field investigations typically start with a sequence of non-intrusive methodology such as Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and may progress to actual excavation.

Testimony

If successful, NecroSearch members provide expert testimony pertaining to the results of the field investigation.

Though we would like to directly help family and friends of those missing, NecroSearch International can only respond when asked to do so by the law enforcement agency in charge of a case, so that we will not compromise evidence.

Bumping up Salem's post from earlier. Please keep the discussion on topic of the latest article only.

I'm opening the thread for discussion of this latest article, regarding the search.

I will leave it open for a day or so, to see if we get more news tomorrow after MR and ER have time to visit with LE.

Is this search still part of the one undertaken at the weekend? I thought that was literally only running on the weekend? If so, something must have been discovered to make the search area broader and so the search longer.

<modsnip>.

Whatever happens, I hope this search will finally give us some answers. A lot of people need closure, even if it's the outcome none of us want.

edit: I forgot to say, what sort of items would be expected here? I can only really think of clothing (maybe the hat), shoes, the backpack or known backpack contents.

according to this article the searches began last saturday

http://www.thedenverchannel.com/new...wine-search-yields-items-to-be-tested-further

also in that article it states

Further investigation, interviews, and laboratory testing will determine if any of the items are pertinent to the Redwine investigation

I don't recall ever seeing or hearing anything like this before. If they are requiring Mark to drive 15+ hours instead of telling him over the phone or just waiting on him to get back to town then I feel that it has to be something major. I assume that LE would not make such an unusual request otherwise.
Imhoo it is not unusual. It is most likely to have both of them id the items

I wonder where these items was found or if they made the search area bigger as 3 days ago i read the search had found nothing.

Imagine lots of animal bones in that environment.

Anthropologists would be helpful to have on a search that size, to rule in/out as human

And archeologists to distinguish any ancient bones found as opposed to current

:twocents:

Thanks! That makes :twocents:... Ahem... Sense!

Maybe because of the following? It looks like Special Investigations works on regular criminal cases, too, and is part of the Southwest Drug Task Force.

http://co.laplata.co.us/departments_and_elected_officials/sheriff

"Special Investigations

The Mission of the Special Investigations Unit:

To provide investigation for the discovery, cntrol and prosecution fo criminal cases and to pro-actively suppress offenses related to vice, narcotics, and organized crime.

The unit is charged with maintaining the Sheriff's Office Intelligence function, and is part of the Southwest Drug Task Force.

The Special Investigations Unit is made up of a Lieutenant, Investigators, and an Office Manager."

Interesting....

This force maintains the Sheriff's Office Intelligence function...

I hope we learn more about the items discovered and if those items belong to Dylan. My heart hurts so much for those who love and have been searching for Dylan for all these months.

The NecroSearch team appears to be very well trained and have several methods to assist LE. This part stuck out to me, "Ground and surface water may also be important to the distribution of scent in an area. A hydrologist is usually needed to interpret these water related aspects of a potential burial site."

Methods used by NecroSearch International

Animal Sign and Scavenging
Evidence at a crime scene may be destroyed, altered, or transported by animal behavior, including scavenging. Animal sign can be misleading or be a valuable source of information.

Human and Nonhuman Bone Identification
When bone is found at a site, it is critical to differentiate between human and nonhuman bone, as well as materials easily mistaken for bone.

Botany
Many different things can disturb the vegetation at a crime scene. Branches can be broken by a car or truck or even by digging or crashing through bushes. Date of disturbance can be determined. Layers of leaf litter might have accumulated on the grave and can be counted. Roots growing into the body can be aged. Small pieces of plant material found in a grave can be identified and perhaps tie the suspect to the crime scene The botanist must have a working knowledge of plant taxonomy, plant anatomy and micro-anatomy, succession, history of area and many other subjects. Ideally the botanist will have access to the site at the beginning of the search because otherwise, important information could be lost.

Hydrology
The impact of water on a burial site can be important in terms of atmospheric moisture, surface flow and drainage, soil moisture content, and groundwater flow and drainage. Water may also impact a site with regard to its chemistry. For example, precipitation patterns and surface flow may relate to the transport of evidence on the surface and the the type of vegetation and wildlife present. Variations in soil moisture may be indicative of a disturbance (such as a burial site) and could impact decomposition. Ground and surface water may also be important to the distribution of scent in an area. A hydrologist is usually needed to interpret these water related aspects of a potential burial site.

Meterology
A meteorologist is able to give specific information for a search area regarding the microclimate and general weather before, during and after the body’s presumed disposal. The conditions before and during body disposal could affect where is body may be located. Microclimate at a site is also useful for interpreting decomposition and other evidence at a site, such as plant type and growth stage. Later weather events may result in erosion or flooding, which could cover or transport evidence.

I don't remember anything like this ever before. But perhaps it's just because I've never seen a parent leave the area they lived in when a huge search is begun for their missing child. (in that same area)

My thoughts are with Dylan's family and friends. I am simply a person that has been following Dylan's case and after reading the news I have an aching feeling in the pit of my stomach. I cannot even begin to imagine how Dylan's loved ones must feel. The awful feeling when they received the call from LE. The ride to the sheriffs office must have been excruciating. The not knowing what LE found and then the knowing. I cannot imagine the pain in their hearts. I am so sorry, no family should ever have to live through this horrible nightmare.

LA PLATA COUNTY, Colo. — Mark Redwine, the father of missing teenager Dylan Redwine, says he has been asked to go to Durango to discuss developments in the case with investigators. He says the boy’s mother, Elaine, has been asked to do the same.

http://kdvr.com/2013/06/26/possible-new-clues-found-in-disappearance-of-dylan-redwine/

my impression from SM is that EH has been in Vallecito since before the weekend search.

WOW ! Tks for this. I saw last night they found several items, but I didn't see anything stating they were related to Dylan, but it seems perhaps something might be ....... oh dear. I'm heart sick :(

Question for anyone who knows the answer. Does lake water move west to east like an ocean current? If so, then is it possible Dylan fell or otherwise got into the lake on the west side nearest MR"s home and over the months a ' current' carried him and / or the items found over to the east side? I say ' current' because I am not sure if that is the proper term for lake water movement. TIA !

I am confused. They did not find anything? But now they did? And both parents need to meet with le? I just hope they are closer to finding Dylan.

Middle Mountain is to the northeast of Vallecito Lake. If you listened to Tricia's two radio shows, one with Elaine and Mark, and one with Mark only, Middle Mountain was referenced as a place where Brandon and Mark had at least started to search, but they "turned around" and came back. (Transcript so thoughtfully provided on page 5 of Dylan Redwine *Media , Maps & Timelines* by TxJan1971). LE says the area had not been completely searched when winter set in and the roads were closed.

See maps I posted above. ETA: If I am correct on those maps, the drainage from the mountain goes directly west to the river that empties into the north end of Vallecito Reservoir. If there is something deceased up there, that could explain the dog hits.

All JMO
I'm not convinced that the recent search was in the same area where Mark described what happened with Brandon.

You can get to the recent search area, Middle Mountain Road, from Vallecito:

[ame="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=middle+mountain+road+colorado&sll=37.399892,-107.372475&sspn=0.186827,0.363579&vpsrc=6&gl=us&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Middle+Mountain+Rd,+Bayfield,+La+Plata,+Colorado+81122&ll=37.455647,-107.550488&spn=0.093344,0.181789&t=m&z=13"]Middle Mt Rd[/ame]

But the area Mark described to Tricia is only accessed by going to Bayfield and then to the other side of the mountain range, which, by my guess, is at least 20 miles as the crow flies, and a LOT further by car. Here is what Mark said:

"and this is what Brandon and I talked about…made a comment that it was kind of stupid to be going up in the middle of nowhere on the mountain range
across from the one on my house when there’s no direct route there. You would have had to go to Bayfield and then go all the way around. There’s no direct route over there."

So it sounds like Mark is describing an area a lot further east that's not accessible from Vallecito. Obviously Brandon probably knows exactly where they were, so he could have given LE that info if asked, but it doesn't sound to me like the area Mark described and the recent search area is the same.

Isn't that only by car though? You could walk up there where there are no roads but to travel by car have to go around where a road was built? Or am I misunderstanding? tks
