Cross.

Cook is asking the witness about areas he worked with the FBI. He talks about being on the criminal side of the FBI.

Asking about how he ended up being the one doing the interview.

Cook is talking about the very brief section of the phone conversation where she referred to herself in the third person. Did you find that unusual. Grusing says not really. Cook says it would be weird if he started doing it right now.

Cook asking about the google searches now. Grusing says he was quite removed from that, that that was sent to him by the data retrieval specialist. Admits he doesn't know the exact dates for the google searches, that that was not supplied to him.

Grusing says he doesn't know exactly how many stories she gave.

Grusing does recall there was a part of the interview where she spoke quieter and hung her head.

Cook asked if five hours is a long interview. Grusing says it depends.

Grusing says that a confession or Gannon's location were goals. On the success/failure of this: "It went about as well as I thought it would." Cook: "Did you come out empty handed?"

Redirect.

Allen asked about people talking in the third person. Grusing agrees people who are self absorbed do this and it didn't indicate mental illness or different personalities to him.

Grusing says her demeanour at the beginning was potentially 'hopeful'. That she could manipulate investigation.

Allen asked what useful information they gained from the interview. Grusing talks frankly that everything she said revolved around her, that was all about her getting exonerated etc. Cemented that she was responsible. Anything that was not inculpatory, she could recall with ease and articulate. She is an articulate, intelligent and intuitive person. That helped her evade LE. He's talking about how adept she was, that they were able to determine she was capable of hiding Gannon while multiple people were looking for him. He's referring to the crime as a 'three day ordeal' comprising of a great deal of planning. 'Prolonged'.

One jury question.... it was muted, I don't know that they asked it.

Break!

The defense passed the witness. Grusing then testified saying, “Her not being able to articulate a last image of Gannon was very indicative that the last image was awful. I came away with more of a certainty that something bad happened to Gannon.”

She’s so transparent, only marginally more interesting to listen to than an angry yellow jacket buzzing around in a mason jar.

IOW she’s evil and vile but by no means a “super villain” or mastermind of any sort. Or even special. She’s no different than the dozens of other child murderers we see in threads here; just another selfish waste who decided they had the right to play life or death with innocent victims. MOO

The murder trial for Letecia Stauch is resuming this morning. The trial is now in week 4. I'll be bringing you the latest from the courtroom and updates throughout the day.

Jonathan Grusing, a former special agent, is taking the stand again. He’s testifying about his interrogation and interview with Letecia Stauch at the Myrtle Beach Police Department after she was arrested for murder in March 2020.

Grusing testified saying that Letecia would challenge him on knowing statements about where Gannon was. He said, if he wasn’t correct with his guesses about what happened to Gannon, Letecia would get upset. He said it was an effective way for her to not answer his questions.

Grusing said Letecia was reluctant to answering questions and didn’t give him any clues to help find Gannon.

He’s talking about different tactics that he used including asking questions about the blood in Gannon’s room. “Since she’s not pushing it to anybody else, she’s basically saying it was her,” said Grusing.

Letecia was talking about God during parts of her interview, saying the truth will come out one day and “show the entire world.”

Grusing was heard asking questions over and over about Letecia’s last image of Gannon. Letecia said she saw nothing negative. “Gannon was happy. Gannon is my favorite stepchild, my baby,” said Letecia. She never fully answered what her last memory of Gannon was.

Grusing questioned Letecia asking if she didn’t hurt him, why would it be a problem for her to tell him what her last memory and image of Gannon was. “If she’s saying she’s innocent of this, then the questions that I’m asking should be easy for her to answer,” Grusing testified.

The interview ends and Letecia and Grusing walk outside of the room.

Grusing testified saying, “Right outside the door... She said something in a small voice about North Carolina that I couldn’t hear. She said she and I should go to North Carolina. And I asked if Gannon was in North Carolina, and she didn’t answer.”

Grusing testified saying Letecia knew where different lines of questioning would go, and what would be damaging for her to answer truthfully. His testimony ended by acknowledging Letecia never changed personalities, talked in a Spanish accent, or wanted to be called other names.

Cross examination is underway for Grusing. Will Cook, Letecia’s attorney, asked about Letecia referring to herself in the the third person. He said this was not that unusual or odd to him.

During cross examination, Grusing was also asked how many stories Letecia told about Gannon’s disappearance. He said there were about five to 10 different stories.

The defense passed the witness. Grusing then testified saying, “Her not being able to articulate a last image of Gannon was very indicative that the last image was awful. I came away with more of a certainty that something bad happened to Gannon.”

I haven’t been able to watch any of this trial and I’m two full threads behind but I want to thank all who posted tweets and transcribed from webex. It’s much appreciated!

I’m very worried about the jury deciding whether Letecia was sane at the time she brutally murdered Gannon. We all know she was absolutely 100% sane but will the jury? It just takes one hold out to keep this circus going. Please tell me I have nothing to worry about!

I am kinda worried to0! As all of this mess is so crazy, She is definitely is twisted person , But like if she is not self aware of how twisted she is does that make her crazy? So I dont really want to talk about it . I think it is not the right kinda of crazy to get her off this charge and that is all that matters! I am still worried though.

Next witness: Special Agent David Donati with the FBI. Currently with Minneapolis division. Was in CS 2015-2020. Mostly violent crime. Was assigned as case agent when FBI were asked to assist. Processed the Tiguan. Retrieved the telematic system from the car.

(Thank you universe, a data and numbers witness. I've been crying out for one for the sake of my brain since Wednesday!)

Correction, he just took them out of the car and sent them to the lab techs.

Having read some of the criteria, I am fairly confident they won’t find her legally insane. But we’ll see what defence do.

Having listened to the jury selection via WebEx, I'm confident here. Also, they will have specific NGRI juror instructions from the court for deliberations.
