Next witness: Dr Loandra Torres. Civil and forensic mental Health. Court services. Oversight and administration. Associate Director of their formal Forensic Association. Has worked in Texas and Colorado. A lot of competency and sanity evaluation experience. Board certified forensic psychologist.

Her degrees from Masters up all seem to be focused in on forensic psychology. 800 competency evaluations under her belt. 30 sanity evaluations. Has testified as an expert 31 times including jury trials.

Qualified as an expert witness.

Conducted LS's first competency evaluation. Both herself and Dr Grey were asked to conduct LS's examination because it was a high profile case, both were board certified, and it was 'two sets of eyes' to make observations and confirm findings.

Dr Grey is the primary training director for the Court services. Lots of other things, many training related.

The psychologist would not have had an opportunity to observe most of this.

IMO.
As Grimmet testified, it would not be necessary/required for the competency evaluation she performed.

I'm curious if any of the sanity evaluators listened to the recorded calls. What discovery were they provided? Do we know this?

I believe on cross Tolini asked Dr G if she listened to hours of phone calls between AS and LS. She said she listened to “some’ but doesn’t remember it being hours and hours. Tolini made a joke and said “you’re lucky “.

She told Dr. Torres she had never been psychiatrically hospitalized.

What about Canada, Letecia? Now, Dr. Torres said they did eventually find record Letecia said Canada, but unfortunately they weren't able to track down where or anything. (or if it was true or real) Letecia said she could not remember that much about it. Letecia gave vague.

Letecia reported the sexual abuse by her stepfather began around age 12 in her competency evaluation then 2 years later during the sanity evaluation she said it began around age 9.

Is it common to have varying memories with regards to sexual abuse?

Testing and interviewing conducted over two days.

Dr Torres and Dr Grey both worked on the sanity assessment, too.

Discovery was very similar for the two evaluations, the sanity evaluation opened up more information for health and employment records, more evidence.

Neither the prosecution or defense had any say about them being assigned to do either evaluation. No incentive to determine either way, they are paid the same whatever their findings.

Competency first.

Prior to interview she was at the state hospital two weeks. Beneficial because it allows observation of her behaviours for some time. review available information first so that they can understand her case, so that they can assess her understand of her case. LS was in their high security forensic unit. Female only, patients have a fair amount of freedom of movement, there were treatment groups she could have participated in. Nurses there 24/7. They reviewed the nurses' documentation and that of the unit psychiatrist.

Sanity, she only came down for the assessment, was not kept at the hospital prior.

They consider diagnoses during competency because if there is a mental illness impacting comprehension and rationality, it can affect their findings. They did not find her incompetent.

Described disruptive childhood. During competency evaluation, she said SA began when she was twelve. During sanity she said she was nine.

Talking through what LS said about her education and employment history. During competency she said she had never been psychiatrically hospitalised. During sanity, she claimed she had a history of psychiatric hospitalisation in Canada. Was not able to verify. She couldn't tell them what city or facility.

She was familiar with the former witness's competency report when she did the sanity report. Competency report says that she was in for two days.

Sounds like we're getting video at some point. I am so not up for listening to that person today, folks. I'll see how I go when it comes up.

Yes. It's also possible to flat out forget and remember at a later time. I have a very close family member who only recovered his own memories of early childhood abuse two years ago. He's in his late thirties. It shattered his world.

Tendency to high levels of dissociation can run in families. It certainly does in mine. Some think that it might be why two unrelated people can experience comparable levels of traumatic experience, but one develops DID or represses their memories, and one doesn't.

MOO

She specifically asked whether the staff could tell whether patients were exaggerating symptoms of mental illness….boom!

Letecia asked the staff if they could tell if a patient was faking mental illness.

If T was sexually abused by her stepfather or by anyone, I'm sorry that her young self experienced that. Sadly, she wouldn't be alone. But why do I feel like T is using abuse that may or may not have occurred to manipulate and gain sympathy? It seems markedly vague which is consistent with so many of her unsubstantiated claims. She always has an angle. And it's always self-serving.

More than anything, I find T preposterously inauthentic.

Oh, and awful.

Letecia is showing a lack of interest in this testimony.
