I noticed something today in the videos. LS frequently says, "ya know what I mean?" She's wanting them to agree with her. She's trying to gauge their belief in what she is saying. That's not insanity.

Letecia babbling on. This may not make any sense because I can't catch all she's saying. Bonfire, flashback, her Mom, she can almost smell it burning.

Letecia says, "When she has a flashback in that same space, molested by a person your Mom married and you trusted." The Bible and the Book of James, my brother, his graduation, Dakota James Lowry, he is not like his Dad. That's why I didn't say anything to you when you asked me.

She can't remember what Maria does. Dr. Torres says it seems like speculation. She's trying to say what Maria did, the thing with Gannon, were her something to do with her Stepdad. ​

Additionally, I agree with Dr. Lewis that murderers are created and not born. However, and this may be premature, as she has not testified, but am curious if she (Dr. Lewis) is trying to push DID? Moo

As much as I admire Dr Lewis's stated purpose - to try to prevent people who truly are mentally disabled from being executed when they have no concept of what they've done or why it's happening - and the fact that she has no problem in believing in dissociative disorders - which are ridiculed and called fake by people in psych fields with a lot of pull and power - and she believed in CTE long before they had scanning equipment to prove it existed, but she has a lot of what for want of a better word I would call confirmation bias. She has a theory, which can be the enemy of the truth, of the facts, if you decide that it fits everybody.

She has decided that DID in particular can be stamped on a huge amount of violent offenders as a 'reason'.

She seems to be warm and open and unguarded, and seems unaware or unwilling to acknowledge the level of manipulation many violent offenders in her chosen pool of subjects are capable of. And after so many years, I have to assume it's that she's willfully ignorant, not innocently. It doesn't fit her theory that they are faking it because it suits their selfinterest.

And she has been doing this a long, long time. There comes a point when something isn't a benign fringe theory, it's harmful in itself.

Very much my opinions, based on articles I have read about and by Dr Lewis and the documentary Crazy, Not Insane.

I agree with a lot of your points. I totally agree that anything that stigmatises mental health is enraging.
I work in forensic mental health and advocate for people who suffer a variety of mental health issues on a daily basis, so I completely understand your frustrations, however I do disagree with your saying that the tiktok kids aren't hurting anybody. Truth is, they are, even by your own words. They too are portraying an inaccurate and unfair portrayal of the small amount of people who do unfortunately live with DID, they are cosplaying mental illness and generally making a mockery out of illnesses on a public forum that is populated by impressionable and young people. Of course it's not exactly the same as the case here where this tramp is on trial for an inconceivable act of violence and evil whilst lying her arse off, but it's still harmful all the same. Sorry, I just personally find the whole tiktok Munchausen By Internet thing (especially anything to do with mental health) proper icky and very harmful to people who have to actually live their lives with these illnesses.

I'll revise - the kids on TikTok aren't murdering anybody, and misinformation about all mental health conditions is rife on social media like TikTok, Youtube, and Instagram, perpetuated by folks of all ages. The harm caused by this misinformation is not comparable to murder. I think that's clearer about what I meant.

That's true. But it's different coming from a professional analyzing and getting her to speak, after an arrest has been made.
I wouldn't have trusted either parent/step parent commentary when it came to a missing boy.

Nonetheless, fortunately, now both AS and LS reported their relationship was on the rocks!

I’m having a hard time putting into words what I’m thinking so bare with me.

It’s upsetting in a way, to realize that she’s NOT mentally ill. These witnesses are saying that Leticia can’t fully qualify as anything because she’s some of this and some of that but; they are PERSONALITY DISORDERS not mental illnesses.

Somewhere in all of this I was hoping for some diagnosis of a labelled mental illness. Then I could understand.

The reality is that Leticia is just the vile, evil, witch, beast that she is with a horrible personality.

My head is spinning with that realization. I think I knew it all along but now to know that is the deal I’m a little shocked.

People can just be plain out bad, evil and that’s just the way they are. It’s horrifying.

I don't think there's any agreement within the medical or psychological communities about which items in DSM are "mental illness." And that's not even relevant to this trial, as T. has to be found sane or insane (not "mentally ill"). I don't think anyone can answer the question, "Which forms of mental illness can cause legal insanity?" I don't think being mentally ill = being insane (most mental illnesses, like schizophrenia, can have remissions).

But I'd like to ask you and other WSers which diagnoses you would think fall under 'mental illness'? I think Bipolar, Major Depression and Schizophrenia are likely to be on the list - anything else?

Just curious. We no longer have the mooring of "biological" vs "acquired" when speaking of all the personality disorders (plenty of evidence that ASPD is associated with genes and/or variations in brain development and/or brain trauma).

OTOH, some ASPD sufferers may have learned it (it's not clearly biological but it's clear there are biomarkers for it - and Dr Lewis will testify there are biomarkers for DID).

I doubt anyone has scanned Letecia though and I doubt Dr Lewis can use that information effectively if she hasn't ordered brain scans for T.

She would be far more 'respected' (lack of a better word....) to come in, take the stand and say.
