That particular statement stood out to me because it speaks volumes. It clearly shows how much importance he placed on every single detail and how much he wanted the correct information notated. It's not because he wanted to help them; he wanted the credit and recognition for it. He wanted to showcase his intelligence.
It reads almost like a scoff. It's almost like he's saying "as IF I would mix those ingredients together in a silver bowl and risk ruining the final product... it was stainless steel."
Other statements that convey his hauteur, if you will... as well as his desire to undermine the officer:
"Magnesium just doesn't ignite with pressure... WELL, AND YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS."
When he was asked if the transmitter was outside or missing... He said "UH, YOU TELL ME."
When he was asked what else was in the there that could hurt someone and he replied "Uh, well, I'm not in there anymore." <<< I perceived to be a smart-a answer. I don't know what's in there because I'm not there anymore.
And the line... "no that was just to scare you guys" clearly proves he felt this was just a game.
