I imagine he did feel he was superior in intelligence and felt quite embarrassed by being basically called out. For me personally, I was so afraid of being called out that I was almost ridiculously obsessed with accuracy and the ability to reproduce my lab results.

And to Hatfield, lab work is amazingly fun. When I had my baby girl I became a stay at home mommy but would be lying if I said I didnt miss it. The pictures of DNA that had been chopped was seriously like looking at beautiful artwork. That's actually what I would like to do, run DNA samples and print them as artwork. Like imagine how cool it would be to have a row of each person in your families DNA on an electrophoresis gel in one pic!

But to be more on topic, a know it all, or someone who thinks they can outsmart people makes for one of the worst type of scientist. They are often the type of people who interpret data in a way to make it support things that just aren't so.

Being that he was/is so intelligent, I imagine he had done some self diagnosing. I would love to see his full computer history.

I am not sure what exactly you are talking about...LOL! But I have seen this before...

Corbin Dates: was burned by a bullet casing

Corbin Dates: "I do remember people running towards the left side of the aud, trying to make it through the exit"

I commented that I wondered if he could have gotten it from Lynne Fenton. The comments are coming fast so it might have been missed :)

I seriously wonder if he used drugs....any kind. The defense kept asking about his "blown" pupils - as if that is proof that he was having an episode at the time. To me....big pupils = drugs....I dunno

Very interesting! I will be watching everyone's eyes from now on!

Here's a question. When pupils are super dilated like that, does it cause blurred vision? When I have my Diabetic Retinal scan done they use drops to dilate my pupils. I can't see properly for hours afterwards. Is this the same when your eyes dilate that big on their own?

Sure blurriness can happen..But remember..JH had full control..he could reverse the affects just as quickly..unlike IF you have drops, medications (prescriptions) or injections..which has to go thru the breakdown period by the body..(Half life often cited by pharmacologists)..So in a sense ..Just like Johnny Boy wanted..he could be IN CONTROL....I find JH a "Totally diabolic individual"..driven to do harm because in his head felt human kind were redundant/expendable...SMH (Shake My Head )..

Bottomline..JH was in full control of his actions..no snapping..no drug induced psychosis..he with held information from psychiatrist because he knew what he was planning was WRONG..so denied symptoms..and only said things about "thinking about" versus plan on doings...Huge difference in a clinical decision...

I've watched for too many trials where defendant were under psychiatrical care..and unfortunately this "Self Reporting" has HUGE FLAWS...A good clinician should be able to figure it out...these folks have to get information beyond individual self reporting..ala how meds are working??? Yeah..They say no..BUT did they take them?? No way to verify.....Mental HC has a lot of loopholes when a patient isn't really there to get help...BUT to HIDE his true thoughts and plans!!

In my experience..many Psychiatrists were very frustrated..knowing this...so in ER's up hear..we have an ancillary body..called "Crisis Intervention Team" who can interview family..friends and associates when weird/aberrant behaviours are noted...Very well trained folks!!! Loved them and their skill set!!

I've been reading that Vicodin causes very small pupils. We know he took it before the attack. So maybe he was wearing those scary contacts.

Do you think it's possible that JH might not have committed this terrible attack if he had been taken seriously when he first told Lynne Fenton that he was having thoughts of murdering people? Would the correct medication (taken properly) have stopped this happening?

Yes I believe she could have contacted the proper authorities to have him involuntarily committed to s psych hospital to have him evaluated and put on the proper medication. He's on antipsychotic meds now and probably a cocktail of mood stabilizers as well. Look how calm he is in court.

If that would have been done maybe those poor people would still be alive today. This baffles me to no end. Fenton as his Dr who knew his thoughts should not had washed her hands of him when he dropped out.

Im sure she is going to be grilled hard on the witness stand as she and her superiors should be. JMO

He is very calm. I wonder what his behaviour is like in jail.

Dilated pupils is a common side affect for many drugs...including Marijuana/PCP/ LSD But none of these drugs were found in JH from anything I have read anyway...IF he actually utilized such drugs..They have a very long half-life so would have been detected....

I hate to say this..I believe JH had total bodily functional control thru his very "High Functioning Brain" capabilities....which does NOT include his ability to adapt or assimilate to his fellow man..including his parents  He needs to be removed from society for the rest of his days..Maybe he could be channeled into doing research ( while in Supermax)..I'm one who think's he is one who could thrive being segregated from everybody..He literally lives in his head..Let him OFF line do his thing..Just maybe his deciphering abilities can actually HELP the greater world??

OK..Stop throwing tomatoes at me !!!!! LOL> Ducking as I type :blushing:

I read hies calm now that he's on the proper meds. The meds mellow them out almost to the extent of being lethargic to the severe cases. I can't research it. I'm at work.

I know what you are trying to say, he is so smart he should be able to contribute, or should have been. But he lacks motivation, seems to hold resentment against society. It's a shame really, because I am a big believer that with intelligence comes compassion, but in this case it just isn't so.

I wonder if any of the surviving victims have returned to movie theaters? I know we went last Wednesday, and I was nervous, but when we got there it was empty so I relaxed. But as it started to fill up I got more and more nervous. I was trying to figure out if sitting next to an exit made it a more safe choice because you could quickly get out, or if it could be a point of entry for a person with bad intentions.

Victor Edgar Nava Hernandez was at the movie with Alex Sullivan, who was killed.
