I'm with Mindmatters here... I don't think there's any chance he'll be found anything but guilty and sentenced to death. I've been trying to keep an open mind here but it's hard to do that when you hear about the meticulous planning and the massive destruction he caused for so many people. And I don't think the jury will be able to get past it either.

The defense is legally obligated to do their best to keep him from being sentenced to death. JH already offered to plead guilty, in exchange for a life sentence, but he was denied. This insanity plea is honestly the only other option available to them. They're trying desperately to make it work somehow, but I just don't think it's possible.

This is true. Insanity cases are very difficult to win. Julie Schenecker was clearly insane and had a history of mental illness yet she got life without parole in prison. The public isn't very forgiving. I don't know maybe one or two jurors will have some compassion that has a family member with MI. It all depends on the testimony, jury instructions and mitigating factors. You just never know. The only one that comes to mind who won insanity plea was Andrea Yates. She called the cops to tell them what she did. As I Recall she planned the drowning deaths of all her children.

Something I am thinking about, which we will hear more details from the notebook & the people he talked to before-but, I just recall him telling that ‘he wanted to kill people”. The notebook goes into detail about that & how more dead people will add to his value.
I don’t recall yet or even in opening statements where it was said ‘voices were telling him to kill people’. There’s a big difference. KWIM?

I believe I read that he believed the delusion the psychiatrist programmed him to kill people.

We won't know until we hear all the testimony.

I seriously wonder if he used drugs....any kind. The defense kept asking about his "blown" pupils - as if that is proof that he was having an episode at the time. To me....big pupils = drugs....I dunno

I wondered that too. I researched dilated pupils the other day and I wasn't able to find anything that said one of the causes had anything to do with psychosis... the only causes I found were drugs, like you said... and sexual arousal, head trauma, brain hemorrhage, concussion, or brain injuries.

Look under signs and symptoms. It mentions dilation of the pupils.
