How can they say he was insane when he planned this attack so meticulously?!

I think they're going to go with the schizophrenia heavily. I don't know how far the defense will take this.
Reading stories about people with schizophrenia, they can function in daily living with medication. However, the patients say that the 'visual & audible hallucinations are still present with them but they tend to play on in the back of their mind. One described it as 'imagine a large screen TV playing constantly even as you're walking around or trying to talk with someone'. They will incorporate what they're seeing & hearing into their life or conversations with others.
An example I read, a girl is talking about eating lunch with her father & then says 'can the cat eat hot dogs too?' While being 'with her father' in the moment, at the same time she is seeing & hearing a cat talking with her.
Since Holmes doesn't have social skills & didn't seem to communicate with people much anyway, no one saw or heard him displaying these behaviors. They really only have the psych, Fenton & the notebook to document what he was 'seeing & hearing' in his head, BEFORE the shootings. We will find out if he actually said or wrote that 'something or someone was telling him to kill people'. Son of Sam said that, then years later he said, 'yeah, I just made that up'. Anyway, without proof that he was hallucinating during this at least, 4 mon. period, I don't see how the defense can prove it. They have the diagnosis AFTER the shootings, while in jail, while on heavy meds, but how can they prove schizophrenia before & at the time of shooting?
He could have 'lost it' after he shot all the people & realized his life was over now that he was caught. IMO
Just some thoughts of mine.
