OMGoodness..Now he's trying to suggest he was seeing shadow's and in describing like seeing ghost's..Boy he's pulling out all stops now..since he has already declared there's no afterlife..so it couldn't be ghosts..

Anyway..He's having a tough time trying to explain this one...while working in labs during his 3rd rotation in undergrad.
I think this is an after thought/addition to go toward's his Mental Illness/Insanity defence??

Since he was seeking psychological help..Why wouldn't he have mentioned all this?? Maybe because it never happened and got added to his defence GERRRRRR

well, he said he was nearsighted, sounds like to be he's describing eye 'floaters' which is common. Sometimes I think a fly is buzzing around. Just something to add for what it's worth.

But his embellishing it make me think he is actually trying to enhance his condition...Coaching by defence psychiatrist's maybe???

BTW~~ I started smacking at those pesky fruit flies way back when I was in my early 30's!! I happen to know what they were..But LOL at my self when I responded that ROFLMBO!!

I completely believe he saq these shadows..definitely something he could experience with schizophrenia. I think it is true that the disorder manifests itself in many different ways. Those with bipolar disorder do not necessarily present with psychotic symptoms like some do. I am familiar with a lot of the delusions, ideas of reference, echolalia, pressured speech, and paranoia that often go on with mania and schizophrenia. I don't think that you have to actually believe you are a higher being to have the disorders, especially schizophrenia. It is just one of the criteria listed. Although it is definitely something I have witnessed myself interviewing schizophrenic/bipolar patients in a mental health institute. They did say that he experienced ideas of reference, however, in thinking President Obama was communicating to him through nods and winks on tv while he was in prison. They also said that he told guards he did not know whether or not they were real. This was supposedly before he was placed on antipsychotics. Some will suggest malingering for that, but I haven't seen or read about any doctor's interpretations that that is what they thought was going on.

I believe he knew right from wrong, but I believe he was definitely experiencing psychotic symptoms before the shootings. I have never really suspected bipolar disorder for him, but schizoaffective disorder does seem like a possibility with mood disorders he experienced tied into it. To me, the symbols he drew in his notebook and nonsensical equations are very synonymous of drawings I have seen done by patients with schizophrenia.

I agree with you. The symbols and equations indicate some form of abnormal thought and could be a product of schizophrenia. It's a definite possibility, but I don't believe that to be the case. And even though I have a BA in Psychology, I don't work in the field and I'm far from an expert. In my original post, I only offered my opinion about the bipolar/schizophrenia issue because another poster asked me about it.

He doesn't want to talk about it..regarding his recollections of skin being cut off...Kinda tells me..he was circumcised..and is using that term as enhancing something that there is no possibility to recall such a thing..As THAT is done usually as a baby.....however..IF it had been done as a young boy..he would recall the act of doing it..BUT could NOT recall the procedure..He is surely padding the things that most young male's experiences..yet for some reason..uses it to claim aberrant delusional thinking??

The more he talks..The more I understand he has been coached to say a lot of things that will cloud things!! Smoke and mirror's showing up with this only video taped interview by experts!!!

Glad to hear that Flordia comment to Juror is benign...!!

I have a big floater in my right eye. It's really annoying! Had it for ages.

JH - Looking back now it “could be" to do w. knowing he was doing wrong.

Body dysmorphic disorder - Poor vision, bad sinuses, unhappy with his hair. Was not on meds for sinuses.

Focused on appearance and checked mirror often.

Reid: You have a list of personality disorders (names them) Insomnia?

JH - Toss and turn before falling asleep

I sleep so much now I stay awake restless at night.

Psychosis - JH can’t remember why he named it then.

Rough definition of it now -psychotic (abnormal, delusional) in some way

Pain disorder - JH doesn’t remember what kind of pain.

Restless leg - twitchy legs when trying to fall asleep

Reid: Looking back - are those realistic, overkill?

JH - Just thoughts i had. Research i did online.

JH - I don’t know if they were accurate. I thought so at the time.

I don’t think I had autism. I think I have schizophrenia, OCD, social anxiety

What makes you think you had schizophrenia then?

JH - I don’t know the answer.

Reid: With what you know, what symptoms do you see at that time looking back?

JH: Just delusions of grandeur, paranoid

JH- i would see flickering in my peripheral vision, shadows.

Reid: People see stuff in their vision.

JH - Nothing I saw that could make the shadows move. Now says it was in frontal

JH says shadows were dancing. Shape of person looking like they were juggling

JH can’t say what was creating the figure looking like it was juggling.

1st saw them working in labs in grad school.

Saw the first during 3rd lab rotation.

Once he saw it, the shadows were infrequent. When they did happen, they stayed the same.

Sure, that does also seem like a defense mechanism he uses consistently and did prior to his arrest...but I'm still not sure how much he actually cares about what happens to him at this point. He is certainly not providing extra information or details to try to persuade the doctor to believe anything one way or the other.

Before jail 1x a week. After in jail - 2-3 x a week

Similar fashion

Reaction before jail to the “Dancing shadows” was thinking they were unusual. Not scared of them, apathetic to them

Tried to figure out what was causing them. (IMHO....his wall eyes are probably not helping)

Went with the flow. Knew they weren’t beings from another dimension.

JH just saw them as shadows.

JH says he sees them at the time this video was made

The last time he saw them he was staring at the wall/ceiling.

Not distressing to see

The shadows had axes, swords.

JH says nothing happened to his genitals when he was young. (IMHO...bs...he was sooo clammed up)

Well, even if he does have schizophrenia, that doesn't mean he was insane and should be found not guity. To me, he doesn't seem to be saying much of anything that would help the defense's case. No higher power directing him to commit these crimes, nothing like that.

JH says his penis is small.

Based on national averages it is small. JH says, “Not that” small.

“Slab of skin torn away” - Doesn’t remember how.

JH doesn’t want to talk about it. Says it doesn’t involve someone doing anything to him.

He says he drew a couple of pics in jail. Says they’re in his “jail bucket"

Has pics on cell wall.

1- pretty women received in mail (mail confiscated by lawyers from supporters) (IMHO....he's pissed about that)

Has kept up those pics to break monotony (IMO....jail is such a bore)

JH thought it was kind to receive support. Some was religious in nature. To believe in God. Bible passages.

He still thought it was a nice gesture. Got $$ for commissary.

Landscape photos, family/friend photos. Photo has mom, sis, dad, and himself in it

Agree. Not sure about coaching cause I don't know this guy could be coached in anything. Wow. Quite the specimen.

I agree with others and give Dr Reid kudos. He's on top of his game.

I'm still stuck on this 'point system' Holmes had. Does anyone know what video games this guy played? I recall him saying he played for 8 hrs a day. Some of these games, in particular, shooting videos are on a point system. I'm thinking in his mind, he may have committed this mass murder (partly) as some sort of fantasy.

JH - Nope

Evolution of thoughts about killing: Early ones - abstract w. saws/nuclear winter. In notebook, obsession to kill

started early

JH - Obsession to kill as a kid (Age middle school) - don’t remember what obsession was.

Strong inner thoughts of killing people. The people were not doing anything to him/abstract people

No ID on any of them.

Never acted out those fantasies in drawings, playing, etc.

JH didn’t like to draw when he was a kid.

Hating mankind was something he felt in middle school.

He wanted to kill them - no hate but still wanted to kill them

I agree. The interview seemed so easy at first but now I am impressed with how this doctor is not getting frustrated when JH gives such limited answers and no elaboration. Reminds me of some of the things I hated about mental health nursing in school!
