DPS chief: 'You should be concerned' about I-10 shootings

Thanks for posting that. I'm going to have to do a timeline of these highway shootings and see if the frequency of these things is picking up. I think it is.

Those four shootings from Sat. and Monday were right in the middle of Phoenix. It's unusual for those kinds of highway shootings to be in the middle of a dense urban area. They were a bit over 60 miles from the series of four shootings along a short stretch of highway 71 in Congress, AZ, to the north of Phoenix on 7/20/15.

If you just took the incidents that left obvious holes from a bullet/pellet/BB/unknown not debris projectile, which would probably also include the incidents where the victim caught a glimpse of the shooter/s, about what percentage of the incidents would that include from the NOCO list?

Re: yesterday's incident in Co Springs / Garden of the Gods, Kdvr is mentioning that they passed a dark suv (CR also reported a dark SUV, iirc); the other article mentions a group of motorcyclists following them. I'm posting quotes from both articles for comparison. Qmfr:

Thanks for posting, searchingirl.

From the above link:

"A motorcyclist told investigators that he and his wife were riding through the park around 11 p.m. Sunday night when they passed other motorcyclists who suddenly started following them.

The man's wife said at some point, she felt a burning sensation in her back.

"When the victim and her husband arrived home from their ride, he checked her back and discovered wounds consistent with being shot," Colorado Springs Police said."

"It happened Sunday night around 11pm. Colorado Springs police said the woman was on the back of her husband’s bike. At some point the couple passed a dark colored SUV.

“They felt that the vehicle was suspicious in the way it was following them but they really didn’t think anything of it,” said Lt. Buckley.

Arriving home a short time later, the woman felt pain in her lower back and realized she’d been shot. Police say the bullet grazed her."

That combination of people mentioned could explain the length and breadth of incidents, to some degree or that they may have been getting rowdy or both, at the time of this shooting. Following the couple seems deliberate, like part of staging it, if the riders and the SUV were cahoots.

There was the bullet, stray or not, that struck Glenn Martin a grandfather, to which he had reacted like a 'bee sting', IIRC. He died on the way to help in front of his family. This woman sounds lucky by comparison, fortunately. I'm so glad they noticed who had been around them at the time.

At this link is a video of the semi-truck driver whose window was shot out in Northern Colorado...it's incredible...the task force has determined this incident isn't related or connected to the others...ho hum...the truck driver doesn't believe it...says he's grateful to have saved his own life by upgrading the density of his windshield glass ... Evidently he was told it was caused by a BB or pellet but the driver thinks it was a bullet and bigger than a .22...when asked why he thinks the task force won't connect them he attributes it to bad publicity...guess they don't want anyone to think something like this could happen here in Colorado...

Northern Colorado Shooting Task Force says shattered windshield unrealted to other shooting cases
Phil Tenser, Marshall Zelinger
http://www.thedenverchannel.com/new...over-to-northern-colorado-shooting-task-force

"MORGAN COUNTY, Colo. - The Northern Colorado Task Force won't investigate a shooting in the area because a BB or pellet gun was used. A trucker's windshield guarded the man.

It happened between 7:20 and 7:30 a.m. Monday, Colorado State Trooper Nate Reid confirmed. The driver was headed eastbound on Highway 34 at mile marker 144, in Morgan County."

Snip

The case was originally handed over to the task force on suspicion it was connected to other cases."

Snip

"Authorities have now determined this case is unrelated to the others, but it doesn't sit well with Criswell, who says his choice to install a school bus windshield prevented him from getting hurt.

"It's thicker than standard glass. I feel if I would have had the standard windshield thickness in there, that the bullet would have come on through the windshield."

CrIswell isn't convinced this was just a BB gun, either. "A BB don't cause that," he said, referencing the shattered glass."

More from the same article:

""I feel that (the police) don't want any publicity. They don't know what's going on, they don't want to scare the public," said Criswell. “I think it’s more of a revenue deal because if you put on the news, and it’s broadcast in Kentucky or Nebraska and stuff, that you come to Colorado and you’re liable to get shot, what would your incentive be to come to Colorado? I wouldn’t come and spend money here.

Where Criswell was shot at is surrounded by fields on a two-lane road. He's sure whoever did this, did it with intent.

“It wasn’t some drunk or whatever you want to say, out for kicks and giggles, just shooting holes in the sides of the vehicles. This was, I feel, a professional. Somebody that knows what they’re doing. They had a scope. They knew what they were doing and how to do it," said Criswell."

The secrecy may be just because of what he said. It may be that LE is concerned about Tourists Money and somebody may have made a decision to hush this just because of that reason.

For the last bolded item, they cannot keep saying that without evidence. One thing for sure is that the window shatterings are related to each other even if they are not related to the 4 people shootings. So they are related to each other. TWO SETS of different types of shootings and only 2 sets. Or 1 SET and they are all related.

Either way, they cant keep misleading people and saying nothing is ever related. Its BS.

One thing I have been wondering about.

This has been going on for a long time now and LE is not stupid. So maybe LE has arrested some individuals and perhaps they uncovered that there is a large "ring" of perpetrators and this thing is much bigger than they had realized. So maybe they are purposely being quiet about things until they can try to arrest all involved.

But if they had arrested some individuals for the window shatterings then wouldn't we know about it due to their charges which would be public record? OR would the charges be masked and maybe be like "Vandelism" and the media and public would not recognize they are tied to the window shatterings.

I keep coming back to this is not that difficult to be able to solve the mystery and LE is not dumb. So maybe it has been partially solved and we are just not hearing about it because there are more perps still out there and yet to be caught.

We don't have much on the nature of whatever it is that is hitting the windows in the incidents that seem most clearly to fit the NOCO window shatterer's MO. We have the dent on the door frame of Donna Sharp's car, we have Cori Romero's neck wound, and we have a report of a guy with a slingshot on the side of I-25. We have three windshields with impact marks, and one side window with enough glass left in it that you can make out part of the circle left by the projectile. We've got nothing on the others 23 or so but the empty space left by a side or back window.

There was a lady who saw a guy lean over a hood of an older yellow or gold Honda to shoot, she had described seeing it from far away, I'll try to find it à tout à l'heure...

This all seems like the kind of scenario that I imagine brings attention to all the usual suspects. So, could it be a some pissing war between syndicates of some kind? Completely unrelated, but interesting that the incident at the Temple in the Bangkok turned out to be a contract syndicate hit according to their authorities, some human smuggling ring they're still looking into. The NOCO shooting has always seemed somewhat adrenaline and steroidal to me, rather, feeding off events, maybe... so LE isn't feeding it?

In NOCO, other than the fact that:

- there are no known suspects or people of interest,
- or public understanding of who murdered a two very kind men, John Jacoby and Bill Connole, and injured brave young Cory,
- and a long list of unexplained shatterings that have either been investigated or dismissed,

one thing stands out,

LE may not want an engaged public in figuring out the NOCO shootings. So, more may be known and it wouldn't help to call a spade a spade in this case, possibly.

In his own little equivalent of G of Gs? Seems possible, but then why would a recluse spend the huge amount of time it would take in the midst of hairy roads to test his wares?

How y'all doin'?

:drink:

So, where we at. We have have a few different vehicles to possibly note:

*The truck
*The dark SUV
*The white truck
...the possible Gold honda accord, red truck...

************************

Do you guys know what is so frustrating? Uninformed locals... anyway...

Ok. This may seem o/t, but check this out. One of the latest "shattering victims", in a SEMI (the second SEMI recently), fully believes in his opinion that real ammunition and a scope was used. He is also basically saying in his opinion that there is a cover up here, and attributes the downplay of all this to the potential negative effect on Colorado's tourism $dollars$ (links upstream). (Also, ski season is around the corner...)

However, IMO tourism and dollars are UP, in addition to a gaziiilion percent state revenue increase with legal marijuana (of course we want to keep it that way ). Many people are moving here for various reasons, with prices already super high even befooore legal pot lol, and continually rising astronomically. I know the latest financial stats I read re: our state's POT income alone is off the charts (not to mention trying to buy a house up here); what I'm trying to say, I don't think its that (the silence/coverup being related to the effect on tourism, though a good thought and entirely possible); I think its something else, like deeper than we can imagine or maybe even need to know...Hatfield has had some great thoughts on this imo in recent posts, jmo.

Thinking out loud as usual:

1. Young punk, singular or plural (my natural instinct is here, but not limited to)
2. Older psycho weirdo holed up in the deep mountains with a bunch of guns.
3. NS type stuff (Isis)
4. Nothing's related (except CR and JJ)

Single shooters? Multiple shooters? Single shatterers? Multiple Shatterers? Copycats? All related? None related (except for JJ and CR)? Some related? Which ones? In LE's opinion, how much of a danger is there currently to our community? In Jessica's case you guys told us straight up that we have a problem, and tried to help unite and inform us so that we could poossssibly help apprehend the individual...(Thank goodness ARS is behind bars; Westminster PD rocked it imo).

Hopefully there will be no more fatalities (wishful thinking, I'm afraid, jmo); we have the potential for so many attempted murder charges so far imo whomever the perps, even if "just a BB"; HELLO a major accident could have been caused in any of these incidents...I am going to try to hope and assume LE has it going on, that their silence does not necessarily imply incompetence or indifference...they've gooot to be working this hard...

*It is going to be reaaaallly interesting to see how this one turns out, isn't it guys?

RE: (1) Did the car window shattering victims hear a gunshot before breakage? The 2014 KS Shooter; Mohammad Whitaker, attempted to buy a silencer from an individual on the black market.
(2) What are the characteristics of composite frangible ammo when striking a hard surface prior to penetration into soft tissue as in the Cori Romero shooting? <3 entrance/exit wounds>

http://library.med.utah.edu/WebPath/TUTORIAL/GUNS/GUNINJ.html
Patterns of Tissue Injury

Use of silencers (or "muzzle brakes" to deflect gas and recoil) may produce atypical entrance wounds. A silencer is a device, often homemade, fitting over the muzzle that attempts to reduce noise by baffling the rapid escape of gases. Their possession is illegal. Entrance wounds produced when silencers are present lead to muzzle imprints that are erythematous rather than abraded and disproportionately large for the size of the wound. Entrance wounds may appear atypical at close range. (Menzies et al, 1981)

For frangible bullets designed to fragment upon impact, the wounding capacity depends upon the nature of the surface impacted, the material comprising the bullet, and the velocity. If the compacted material, often copper powder, is very fine (ultra-frangible), then disintegration may occur upon impact or soon after penetration of soft tissues, creating many small tracks similar to an explosive projectile.
If the bullet is composed of less fragile particles that are more compact, then disintegration may not occur until impact with harder tissues such as bones, teeth, or fibrous fascia. Fragments less than a gram may penetrate soft tissues to a depth of 10 to 15 cm. If an intermediate target is present, such as clothing, then fragmentation may occur even before tissue entry. If fragmentation does not occur readily, then the bullet may produce cavitation similar to a jacketed projectile of the same caliber. Even though frangible rounds are designed to minimize ricochet and collateral injury to other persons nearby, variability in fragmentation, and impact upon intermediate targets such as glass, may produce a shower of secondary fragments with enough energy to cause injury.

Fragmentation of the bullet may produce secondary missiles, one or more of which may have exit wounds.
(Komenda et al, 2013)

I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know if you can have secret arrests in the US. Can you help us here, Prairiewind?

My money, however, is still on the more straightforward theory that they just haven't identified anyone yet. Looking at other cases of deliberate highway shootings has convinced me that they are very hard to solve if the perp remains cautious. The key to solving them always seems to be the sharp eyes of an average Joe or Jane catching something. (Or SearchinGirl catching it on her GoPro.) Pretty much as Foxfire has been telling us from the get go.
