Really excellent work and thoughtful quality posts here guys. I had to step away for a couple days for my own sanity...I knew it was about that time because, well remember the recent white truck incident where the woman saw the passenger hang out of the truck and point a gun at her? Well, there was a white truck in front of me on Thursday and a head suddenly popped out of the passenger side. My heart almost stopped...it was a DOG lol...He was just happy as ever, enjoying the car ride and summer wind in his face...
That's a great vignette, with sweet and sour neatly mixed.
I'm struggling to address the fear it speaks of without dismissing it. LE's advice to go about your business with your brights on is perfectly sensible, but sounds very close to "don't do anything in particular, but if something happens to you, make sure you get us details with clarity".
A more active approach might be to apply a security film to the inside of your car's windows. That would reduce your risk of ultraviolet exposure, of smash and grab thefts, and of getting hurt by flying glass in an accident - all moderate, real life risks. And the film would probably help reduce flying glass in the event of a highway window shattering - a tiny risk, even for regular travellers on I-25. Regular life is way more dangerous than our window sniper. Just less compelling.
