I am really curious to see if a Garagos or Baez type of attorney swoops in and takes over this case. It often happens in high profile cases.

But I am not sure it will happen because this is such a horrendous crime.

Or the dominant partner isn't liked by dominant family members who feel she's a threat because she's assertive and doesn't baby her spouse the way they feel she should.

Yes, the other day I had this moment where I thought a Casey Anthony defense might be pulled. Where they blamed it (their tipping point excuse) on a family member who might feel very guilty, and they *felt so guilty* (but NOT!!!!) and allowed it to happen. In my opinion.

I wanted to clarify something from before:

Quote from msbetsy:

“It was stated that he put them in the oil barrels to cover up the smell. I would also assume he thought it was a pretty good place to hide them. Jmo”

Hi msbetsy, just wanted to reiterate “may have” ftr fwiw, sorry if already addressed:

Colorado girls' bodies were submerged in crude oil 4 days, documents reveal
Sources told Denver's KMGH-TV that the father may have placed the girls' bodies inside oil and gas tanks on his employer's property in order to prevent passersby by from smelling the corpses.”

Chris Watts case: Sources say bodies of 2 daughters concealed inside oil and gas tanks

(Thank you Pommymommy for all the reference links, etc)

You never know! Scott Peterson is just as horrendous!

That's definitely what I think, aside from possibly the material costs which is not a lot. So the "new custom kitchen cabinets" in the 400k home weren't part of the debt problem, IMO.

I have heard that when people know their house is going to go into foreclosure, they strip it. They strip it of plumbing and Cabinetry and light fixtures Etc

Stripping it here it's something different though. Moo

I moved away from where I grew up. In some places, you’re forever 16. I don’t know if it was a small town they came from, or had small town politics, but if so it can be nice to get away and start fresh.

I do know that in many of SW’s videos, she raved about Colorado and loved it there. She loved the climate, and all the things there was to do, lots of concerts on weekends etc.

Since the release of the autopsy has not happened yet, I'm thinking the next critical moment for somebody that is a high-powered attorney to come in would be when the autopsy reports are released.

And then a high-profile person could look at them and see if they want to get on the case?

Yes in her videos she really said how much she loved it here and was way stoked about being in Colorado.

:(

She was just trying to do the best in her life, and be the best, it seems, for her family.

Shattered dreams.

One day you’ve got your whole life ahead of you, happy career, beautiful girls, new baby boy on the way, family, next thing your whole world comes crashing down. Your husband is a cheater, then he kills all of you.

Surreal. Horror Story Nightmare.

(How can someone do this? End rant.)

I do recall Geragos commenting, will look for quote in case anyone missed it.

ETA:

““Geragos, who’s not working for Watts, represented Scott Peterson, who was notoriously convicted in 2004 of killing his pregnant wife, Laci.

"Look at the hurdles he's got right now: pleading for them to return ... an extramarital affair, you have a story that evolves or changes. That's going to be a problem," Geragos told "Good Morning America" of Watts. "His lawyer is going to have his hands full explaining why the story morphs."

Geragos thinks Watts' defense attorneys will also consult experts who can discuss the "psychological underpinnings of what was going on if, in fact, he's going to stick to his story that he saw the wife doing the strangling."“

I believe they are emptied out in one day, but I can't remember how much oil my husband said a tanker truck holds. You may be onto something with this theory.
DOT MC 306/406 cargo tanks are one type of cargo tank that transports crude oil to and from these storage tanks. I think they can hold anywhere from 2,000 to 9,000 gallons.

Yes, I was not quoting a particular article. I just know that there were several. I'm sure there were many reasons he thought putting there would be a good hiding place. Maybe he thought it was just the most convenient for him. jmo

(Absolutely. Wasn’t calling you out or anything, wave, just wanted to be sure it was clear he did not state this as a fact that he placed them there to hide the smells.)

(Ugh the conversations we have here, hard to believe half the stuff I type)

Yea, that whole reason about hiding the smell of his babies' decaying bodies is pretty much bull. How many passersby come round out there in the middle of nowhere? Im sure animals die out there occasionally and it didnt seem to be a problem to put his wife in a shallow grave

I used to ride my horse out there 25 years ago, so you'd be surprised about the number of passersby that would come by...

CW, is such a psychopath, he didn't even process or realize how absolutely abhorrent the disposal of toddlers bodies in an oil container would make him even more of a heinous monster, as if that is possible. For some reason, just the thought of that method of body disposal is ghastly. Completely repulsive and repugnant.

I believe that is part of why this case continues. I discount his complete fairytale that SW killed her babies.

Hey, Scott Peterson came across as a loving, caring husband compared to CW!!!

IMO

(I am at an absolute stand still here with absolutely ZERO to add. Nothing. Time to retreat into lurk mode I suppose. Going to be a long wait...)

(And so many more, seems like every other episode of Forensic Files, men killing their wives...

I guess it goes both ways too. Women killing their husbands...greed, betrayal...)

@margarita25 I agree with your point of view ~ there is only limited points that can be added and re-added at this time and going around in circles and rehashing this topic that has been discussed ad nauseam is not productive. I await further release of evidence in this case.

I asked this awhile back, but I'm still curious what the resident legal folks think - is it possible that CW walks back on his "confession"? Would his defense team ever say, "Yeah, the story you told in your confession is not viable to defend so let's drop that?" Can/would he say he "confessed" before he had legal counsel - even though that can be used against him? Or do you all think the defense will in fact move forward with the story that SW strangled her daughters? I just can't imagine how that theory/confession doesn't get torn to shreds in a court room. Is the defense team stuck with using that? Can they even present that "defense" without CW taking the stand? And if he takes the stand, it seems he would never survive a cross examination with every lie he told in the following days...
